Player's union don't want to lose face and end up seeming like they lost player's checks and didn't accomplish anything. So this will end when the players finally gave or the owners give something to the players that lets them claim some kind of "victory" despite it not really being one.

For example, maybe the owners give 52% but take out a chunk of expenses first. Owners get the finances they want, but players can say they held firm on 52%. It's all purely PR - that's how a lot of these deals end.

Looks about right. The players are going to have to concede more than they want to, they have no leverage and these guys can't afford to miss even half a season.

If the number lowers the players are going to look like fools. Hell if they take the 50 percent later all they will have accomplish is losing money.

So I really don't understand what they are doing. At least the NFL union had some leverage since they took it to the courts. The NBPA is just sitting there making demands when they don't have the leverage to do that.

So, sooo glad this is not the NFL world anymore. Headline: NBA has canceled regular season games through Nov. 30.

Pretty clear what happened w/ lockout: they shelved BRI, negotiated everything else, returned to BRI, then... stalemate. Staring contest.

There's the answer to your question. That's their thought process. But what they fail to realize is, while they may have guns in their hands, the owners have nuclear weapons. They can't get the money they want if the ones that own the bank don't want to write the checks. Stupid fools.

    I'm with D-Fish and Billy,

Going from 57 to 50 is absurd...

They have no leverage in the end.

They are gonna lose more money from losing games than dropping from 57 to 50.

Most of these guys never graduated college or probably even attended classes and it shows.

No it isn't ....57% is a terrible deal for the owners, they are trying to get a deal that works for the good of the league.

The players don't give two ****s for the league, they just want their money.

I am firmly on the owners side on this matter.

    Sure they do...

That is such a strange way to look at it. They aren't negotiating for cash now, they are negotiating for the progress made in the past and the stability of the future.

What a demeaning, untruthful and unsavory thing to say.

I wish the rank and file players had more of a say in these negotiations.

Give me a Grant Hill or Shane Battier over a guy who never even went to college in LeBron or Kobe or KG.

They do have a say, but it generally takes missing paychecks for them to start speaking up....

Heres what it basically comes down to...Stephen A Smith said it best, you got these guys on the team from No. 8 to No. 15 those are your PRACTICE SQUAD. Those guys dont play big roles in the game, they are not entitled to guaranteed contracts and paying for those guys is what the league is having problems with.

Tough for me to side with wealthy white folks like Donald Sterling. Do you really think Paul Allen is in it for the "good of the league"? (Doubtful)

"Behind every great fortune is a great crime"

The owners don't give two ****s for the league, they just want their money.

    See what I did there?

This. While certain players may not have a strong academic background, it's ignorant to say that the Union is all a bunch of idiots. Billy Hunter and Jeff Kessler are two very sharp and experienced guys when it comes to labor negotiations. The Union's economist, Kevin Murphy, is so smart that he received the MacArthur "Genius Grant." Derek Fisher has always sounded intelligent and classy. Most importantly, Shane Battier is certainly a better human being than anyone here except maybe for me.

There really is not "good" or "bad" side to this. It's just business entities negotiating. There's no intrinsic moral value to the numbers 47, 50, 52 and 57. It's too bad the season is delayed and shortened, but sometimes it's how negotiations go.

Anybody want to invest in creating a league with me? We can put the NBA out of business.

Grant and Shane would make this go much smoother, but I do think Derek is doing a great job. (As far as I can tell, KG and Kobe seem pretty intellectual to me. Lebron not so much...)

Bull****! They do serve important roles on teams!

Memphis wouldn't have made it that far in the playoffs without Battier or even Vasquez.

Lakers didn't have their role players step up and see what happened?

These players play a big role on their respective teams, indeed.

Screw what A. Stephen Smith has to say about that, Quite Frankly!
