The reason why the Exorcist was very frightening was that I believe society was much more religious in the 70s than it is today. And things like Jaws, Carrie, Michael Myers, Jason, etc.- you could run away from them. The Exorcist was the actual devil himself, who you couldn't escape from. Plus, in the Never Before Seen version, if you're telling me the sudden subliminal flashes of Captain Howdy and the spiderwalk scene didn't creep you out, especially the first time viewing them, then I don't know what to tell you. There has not been a movie viewed in a theatre that had the type of effect on people that the Exorcist had in 73- you had numerous people passing out in theatres, much more on record than any other film in history. It's the only film that you see consistently on the top of any scariest film list- I've seen lists that didn't have The Shining, Jaws, Carrie, Rosemary's Baby, Halloween, The Thing, and almost any other in the top 10. But I've yet to see a list that didn't have the Exorcist in the top 10, and it's usually #1.
yo could somebody please list me some good japanese horror movies. I've heard they're scary as ****. The only ones i've ever seen was the original japanese the grudge and the grudge 2; i freaking loved them. thanki
the movie IT was pretty corny, even more so then other scary movies. although when i was like 6 and i saw tim curry i was scared.
yeah, thanks for that, brother. i'm just enjoying my coffee and some Pandora radio this morning in a quiet house before the family wakes up....and then this pops up. appreciate ya.
I'm here to help. Seriously, Zelda is the reason why I have a hard time watching that movie. Any time that movie is on and I know a scene with her is coming up, I change the channel.
I'll tell you an underrated movie - one that never seems to get any love but was pretty awesome was The Exorcist III. That one was directed by the author of the original, Blatty and had a great cast including George C. Scott, Jason Miller, Nicol Williamson, and the great Brad Dourif. Some very terrifying and creepy scenes in that one. Also, another Scott movie that wasn't bad was The Changeling.
Freaky! This was what I was scared of the most when watching Pet Sematary as a kid. I just had my step son who is 12 watch it a week ago...he wants to sleep with lights on now..LOL
i do too. i also find the scenes at the little boy's memorial service...where the casket falls...to be very unsettling. not scary...just hauntingly awful.
The Unnamable Texas Chainsaw massacre- Original Hellraiser 1 and 2 The Silver bullet 976 evil pet sematary The amityville horror- Original cujo In the mouth of madness 1408 Nightmare on elm street 1 2 and 3. The shinning halloween Poltergeist The exorcist night of the demons- Original No specific order. Just randomly listed of the top of my head.
Samara (Ring) still haunts me at times Pet Semetary scared the crap out of me as a kid The Orphanage is really well made and pretty creepy
The Descent is awesome if you have never seen that is the scary movie I recommend the most. Insidious is good too, one of the scarier movies I have seen in a while. Anything from Rob Zombie i like as well. The Devils Rejects i would say is his best.
You found The Devil's Rejects to be scary? Don't get me wrong, it was a ton better than House of 1000, but there wasn't much scary to it, just a badass movie.
I watched "Silence of the Lamb" when I was 12 or so. Did not understand the movie at all, but woke up in the middle of the night with cold sweat.
The exorcist IS the scariest film ever. You don't mess with religion, you don't flirt with, even in a movie. It hits way too close to home. I don't mess with the exorcist myself. I don't deal with the demons like that.
