Sold it to best buy. They had a promo that gave you an extra 50% on your trade in if you reserved Battlefield 3 or Modern Warfare 3 on the spot. They still have the promo but now you must reserve Uncharted 3.
Well, I've just been playing some Battlefield 3 over the weekend. I've really been looking forward to it since BFBC2 was the first online shooter that I've really enjoyed since Quake 2... I even max ranked the sucker at level 50 and put something like 400 hours into it. So far I'm enjoying the sequel. I'm not doing nearly as well so far as I'd done in BFBC2, but I attribute that to 1. not knowing the level layouts yet, and 2. getting to know the new weapon mechanics. I've managed 3 ace pins and 4 2nd-ace pins, but I've also had rounds where I got 5 kills and 20 deaths. Hopefully I'll keep improving. http://bf3stats.com/stats_ps3/AtheistPreacher General thoughts: -In BFBC2 you could pretty much eliminate muzzle climb with any weapon by simply quickly tapping the "shoot" button rather than holding it for full automatic fire, meaning that any weapon with a scope made for a good long-ranged weapon if you were using it properly. In BF3, this no longer seems to be the case. Tapping the shoot button on single-fire seems less effective overall than just going full automatic, and muzzle drift overall seems much higher. I've had trouble killing people with most guns beyond 50 feet or so... 75 at the most. Now if you want to kill from range, you'd better either have a sniper rifle, OR an LMG with bipod. Overall, I think this is probably a good change, but it's the thing that's forced the most adjustment from me, as I'm used to having basically unlimited range with any weapon. -Speaking of bipods... good addition. They're an option on LMGs and some sniper rifles, and force you to go prone most of the time to use them (unless you can find a ledge or window at the right height), but it forces you to try to find good spots to set up rather than just running and gunning. -I don't mind the longer knife kill animations, but so far I've been really annoyed at how difficult it seems to be to perform a knife kill at all. I've frequently run up behind someone to knife them and ended up hitting nothing but air. -I feel like recon has really been nerfed. This is probably all to the good, since there were altogether too many snipers in BFBC2... but still. I can understand taking away the C4, but they could have left the recon with the mortars. That would have made them a little less one-dimensional. -On the other end of the spectrum, Support has become my favorite class. Big-ass LMGs for suppressing fire and C4 to blow up vehicles, along with infinite ammunition due to their ammo box item, and that class is just a beast. -The Server Browser means that now you can usually find a full game... as opposed to BFBC2, in which server selection was always random, and you were often put into a game that was less than half-full. It's nice to play in games that are always full. -I like all the point adjustments. Objectives are now worth 500, and a disarm is worth 200. Assist points now scale with the damage you've dealt rather than being a flat point value. Only thing is that I wish a spot assist was worth more than 10, just so more people would actually do it. There still isn't enough spotting going on. -Is anyone else finding the new menu system annoying? I've found it's gotten worse since BFBC2. Before all your possible gun unlocks for each class were laid out on a single page... now there's no good way to tell which new weapons and items will be unlocked, except for the very next one you're going to get. Overall, there are more menus but less useful information in each of them. Also, it used to be that when loading a map it would show you the layout of the level, which I always thought was helpful, but now it just shows you a meaningless picture. Grr. -The game does have its share of bugs. The most frequent in-game bugs I've noticed are 1. the reload animation doesn't play, but your gun still reloads, and 2. the sound cuts in and out for no apparent reason. I've also experienced being unable to access my soldier's stats/equipment, being kicked off servers for no reason, and my PS3 has frozen twice in two days. Anyway, I'll probably play some more tonight. Right now I'm still feeling very driven to keep unlocking some of the better equipment... I really hated the starting Assault guns in particular (M416 is a great improvement over both of them), and I'm still waiting to unlock my first bolt-action sniper.
Unless Battlefield 3 is made by Infinity Ward it's not going to be a COD killer. There's something about the talented coders at Infinity Ward that makes their game play just smoother and better.
Those talented coders aren't at Infinity Ward either (check Respawn). The talented Activision Marketing team is probably mostly intact though. Don't think sales were posted, right? 5M sold in the first week, over 10M shipped (apparently stores are ordering more). I guess that's pretty good.
I LOL'ed. So true. Yeah, I don't think the official worldwide numbers are out yet, but we do have some UK info: http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/38214/Battlefield_3_Tops_UK_Game_Charts_In_Opening_Weekend.php EA DICE's Battlefield 3 shot to the top of the the UK software sales charts in its opening weekend, securing its place as the tenth biggest UK video game launch this year across all formats. Overall, Battlefield 3 outsold Medal of Honor, EA's first-person war shooter offering from last year, by two-to-one for first week sales -- in fact, Battlefield 3's first-week sales outsold every other Battlefield title's first-week sales combined. Also, in this article EA claims that it's sold more quickly so far than any other EA game to date. Of course, we shouldn't be making too many marketing jokes at Activision's expense, because I'm sure that EA's own marketing has something to do with BF3's sales numbers, but I'd like to think it has more to do with how good BFBC2 actually was. I haven't really made up my mind yet if the new version is better, but BFBC2 was really somethin' else.
Yeah, it will be a while before we get NPD + Famitsu/Media Create + EU sales, but I'm thinking the 5M number from EA is global sell-through since they also specified 10M shipped a few days earlier: http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/38170/EAs_Battlefield_3_Ships_10M_Units_In_First_Week.php Don't know what their source is though (maybe internal tracking). Not really sure how they get these sell-through numbers when they do PR like this...unless they're just pretty sure it is >5M, based on online activity or something. And yeah, both teams have some great marketing teams, which probably helps generate a large portion of the sales for these games.
I can program a game to run smooth on a engine that is over half a decade old. Battlefield 3 is the most technologically advanced game on the market. The coders at dice know how to code the coders at infinity ward know how to copy and paste.
Indeed. Right now I'm working on unlocking stuff for the recon since it's my least favorite class. Hoping it'll be better when I've unlocked all the gadgets and some of the more powerful bolt-action guns. I've almost got the last weapon for Support. Oh, and I just officially passed the 24-hour playtime mark. AND, my k/d ratio just climbed back above 1.00 after a shaky start.
Love this game just wish the console can play it the way its meant to be play on the pc. The graphic effect is amazing like operation metro you can see the trees shawdow sway back and forth as well as the sun light gets brighter and dimmer in the beginning part of rush. So many epic moment in this game to keep you playing for more. The other night I ran into an engineer in caspian border. We were about 30ft away from each other. He had his aim on me first with the rpg and had pulled the trigger. I saw the rocket coming at me so I was like f this let see if this work. Went into prone couldn't see anything until the trail of smoke from the rocket clear. Open fire on my target while he was reloading and looking for me in the same time lol. if only I can see it from his pov.
Nope. Halo is the slowest game I have ever played because it takes like a full clip of ammo to kill someone. Lol.
. Rush and conquest on bf3 is slow because you suppose to take your time to flank your enemy to take over the obkective. Bf3 TDM is fast pace like cod. Run and shoot And squad death match is nothing but campers. Lots of variety for any type players
So would you guys reccomend this? I enjoyed Bad Company 2 but got tired off the camper-favoring maps and kids playing dirty. Is this game a big leap regarding online play and general gameplay?
