If he doesn't want to change the laws, he is essentially pro-choice. If he is pro-choice, running an ad titled "Life" when he's running for president seems disingenuous at best.

This is the "Life" ad from his campaign's official youtube page. It even has "pro-life" as one of the tags. If I was a republican voter, based on that ad I would've assumed that Paul is pro-life.

Honestly, who is really pro-abortion? Who wants women to go out an have abortions? Why is it not possible in your worldview for a person to be pro-life without supporting legislation banning the procedure? I'm just glad I'll never have to make that decision. Being anti-abortion doesn't mean that you support banning a medical procedure.

this is samfisher in full-on meltdown mode - most of our little back-and-forths seem to end up here.

    samuel
, explain to me exactly how its bad to have consecutive posts. in over 9 years of posting here you are the only one who ever seems to have a problem with it. why does it bother you so much?

and again, i must point out the hypocrisy of someone who posts as much and as often as samuel criticizing anyone else over their posting habits. ive got someone who logs in once an hour criticizing someone else for only logging in once a day. you would think an "attorney" of samuels caliber would have more important things to worry about.

he is pro-choice in the sense that he believes the federal government should have no say one way or the other - he says its an issue that should be left to the states. as i said, its a bit of a cop-out, but consistent w/ his overall view of limited government.

as i said, he is clearly pandering to social conservatives and its smart political strategy, but i dont see how he is being disingenuous.

i would assume paul was pro-life based on the fact that he repeatedly says he is pro-life.

I think Ron Paul would rather have the endorsement of active duty military members...

I will give Ron Paul a break regarding his claim to be "pro-life" while not advocating for new laws to restrict abortion. He is consistent in his views regarding the role of government and for his political philosophy that is more important than other issues.

You don't see how he's being disingenuous? Saying you don't like abortion (like Johndoe804 said, who is really pro-abortion??) isn't the same as saying you are pro-life. When people watch an ad of a politician saying he is pro-life, most would think he wants to advocate some sort of regulatory/legal change. He's running ads that imply he is "pro-life" to win a primary when he isn't.

^The equivalent would be a democrat candidate who doesn't want to advocate law changes running "pro-life" ads in red states.

no i dont - as i already said, i think he is pandering and from a political/strategic standpoint, its a good move as it appeals to social conservatives.

paul is pro-life. that is his personal view - but that doesnt mean he thinks the federal government should have a say in the matter.

you are making a mountain out of a molehill.

Since many of his positions on the social side of the agenda are somewhat progressive, why doesn't he run as a Democrat?

Does Paul think that all state governments should outlaw abortions, or does he think that state govts can choose?

Paul's kind of in a tricky no man's land. His fiscal policies are too conservative for the left, and his social policies are too liberal for the right.

Then by most people's definition he is pro-life, he is pro-choice but claims otherwise.

This is also the sense in which most people understand the term.

I keep asking you qns because your denials that Paul is being disingenuous (when it seems obvious to me) leaves me thinking I may have misunderstood something about Paul's position...
