One source in the room characterizes progress as "small moves." If there's still Thursday and Friday, big moves wouldn't come today, IMO.

A source in the room tells me he "wouldn't presume anything" regarding reports of progress in today's labor meeting in NYC.

He could have that reported that on the first day of negotiations.

This to me says it all.

I won't Believe anything about a deal being close till I see a tweet that says the BRI issue is finalized.

All the progress in the world can be made on the other issues but till the BRI is set any "Progress" they make is just hot air and speculation.

Negotiations at 9 hours & counting. Been talking system issues, not BRI yet.

When will they learn, figure out the BRI FIRST.

The 9 hours of work they but in will be thrown out of the window as soon as either side decides that they are not willing to move from their position on BRI.

It sounds like they know well where they each stand for now on BRI, but if I understand correctly, the players union wants to better understand how the cap/luxury tax/contract issues will work in a 50-50 BRI split, that perhaps if they get what they need from the system format that they could be more flexible on BRI. So maybe it's a good thing they can hammer out the structural issues first.

NBA and NBPA come out at same time for press conference = Lockout lifted.

NBA and NBPA come out separately for press conference = Lockout still on.

    Agreed.

I'm guessing if the players union get their preferred position on the MLE being 5 million 3 yr with the % raises they wanted, along with a smaller increase of the luxury tax and maintain contract current lengths, they will more than likely accept a 50-50 BRI split. Personally as a fan, I'd rather have smaller contracts, a more punitive luxury tax ,no exceptions and no salary caps.

11.5 hours. Joining Ed Coleman on @WFAN660 at 11:40 p.m. to discuss stakeouts, journalism school, and other colossal wastes of time.

If by "parity" you mean "every team is equally good" then it is obviously not possible, in any sport, let alone in a sport like basketball. I even doubt that parity is desirable by that definition.

If parity means "equal opportunity" as A_3PO described, then it means each team has an equal opportunity to BECOME good in a fairly short time (5 years?) and remain good once it gets there.

A team like the Thunder would be facing big challenge when Westbrook and Harden are due for resigning. Can they keep the big three AND enough good role players to be a contender?

Having a Kobe or a LeBron is important. But if you don't have enough money to build a good team around him, you don't have a chance.

Over at Hotel Lockout it sounds as if the session is breaking up as we close in on 12 hours

Every person I've texted/called has been optimistic. We'll see what happens during the press conferences. We've been down this road before.

I think if they even had some resemblance of a deal, we would have heard something about it.
