Nope, because the two issues are not exclusive, superstars whine constantly about wanting their team to spend more and upgrade.
Anybody think they can still fit 82 games in the season if they start in mid November? Is it still possible they can do that??? Just put in more back to backs?
Why? We don't want to see games like Bobcats v. Bucks. Start on time on December 1, cut the first round to 5 games to encourage more upsets. And we're good to go. Every league, except for the NFL, should cut their seasons 10% shorter to enhance the drama
I think so. With a few more back to backs early. I really want them to have a full season if possible.
Yes, and it would be easy. Run the regular season through the end of April. Let the first round run a maximum of 9 days. Lose the extra padding they normally put between the conference finals and Finals, where one team often has sat around for a week and a half waiting to go. Let the Finals Game 7 be as late as June 24th. Problem solved, without forcing teams to play 5 games every week.
I just hope they announce the lockout is done, I want the season to start! This feels weird without the free agency news and NBA off guard.
So now, they haven't even cancelled those additional two weeks yet? Stern's threats are b-o-g-u-s. His deadlines have meant nothing. I said I was wrong about them never being truly willing to sacrifice an 82-game season... now I wonder if I conceded too early. I just think there is too much money to lose and greed involved on both ends to let it be lost. If they get this deal done (and it's starting to look like they might), they're going to sardine can the next 6 months and squeeze in every game they possibly can. If the owners hold and continue to play hardball, they will get what they want -- the players will cave. However, I just don't think the owners are willing to sacrifice the millions to billions of a lost season. Yes, they surprised me by ending the meetings prematurely with the federal mediator last week, but looks like they'll leverage those scare tactics earlier than expected and maximize the concessions they can get from the union as a result.
Chris_Broussard Chris Broussard LeBron, Melo and CP3 have decided not to play in World All-Star Classic, sources said. Maybe they know the season might start in time?
I'm pretty sure there will be 82 games this season. When do they start though? Can they start 5 days from now? After these next 2 weeks? End of November? Say they get a deal done tonight or tomorrow, when can the season start?
Well, you need to have training camp. I would presume that takes at least 2 weeks. You also need to have a short/quick signing period like the NFL did after its lockout ended. That would take at most a week. Again, it'll start sometime in December is my best bet, assuming they get a deal done by the end of October.
If the sides reach an agreement, one thing I would be excited about is the epic free agency and trade moves that might happen in the short time span similar to the blockbuster moves that happened that one week in the NFL.
Maybe I need to re-read Stern's words (or maybe you do), but I don't equate equal opportunity to parity. Parity is impossible. What (more) equal opportunity will do to the NBA is give lower revenue franchises a better chance to compete for free agents and retain their draft picks when they become free agents. The high revenue teams won't be able to buy players just because they can spend more. Every team will be forced to manage payroll. That isn't the case now. What's wrong with wanting to increase or "maximize" profits, especially when most teams are losing money? Do you believe the Lakers would be where they are today with the Bobcats revenue stream?
AlexKennedyNBA Alex Kennedy First, sources close to the talks said there was progress. Now, multiple players pull out of international tour at last second? Interesting. RicBucher Ric Bucher NBA World Tour appears to be unraveling: Rose + Westbrook pull out yesterday, LeBron + Melo today. Told KD could be next.
They key is having the star. A team can spend all the money in the world but if they don't have one of those stars then it won't matter (see the Knicks). Of course there are some exceptions like the 04 Pistons, but that's probably the only champion without one of those elite players in the last 3 decades.
