This guys been making plays week in and week out. Definitely changed up our secondary in a positive way. I have a question, lets say he gets his 2 defensive TDs that were taken away by god awful penalties from other players. He would have 4 picks, 2 Defensive TDs through 7 games, would he be a lead candidate for Defensive Player of the Year?
Not really looking at it like that, im just saying that is his play on the field (aside from dumb penalties from other players) reflective of a defensive mvp type season?
He's palying great ball but being the leading candidate for DPY halfway thru the season means as much as leading a race with half the distance to go. That and you threw in the "What if " touchdowns. Let's let the season play out and see how the record ends up. We don't make the playoffs no one deserves hardware imo.
He had 2 sick hits today. He IS the difference in our secondary this year. It's almost comical what percentage of critical completions go to the other side of the field.
The standard DPOY CB to compare to would be Charles Woodson's 09 season. 74 combined tackles, 2 sacks, 4 forced fumbles, 9 picks and 3 tds. It was a hell of a revival season for the guy, and GB jumped up to a top 5 defense that year, their first year of converting to Capers' 3-4. Joseph's year so far prorated to 16 games would have 50 tackles, 2FFs, 7(8 if it weren't for penalties) picks, and 0 (4 if it werent for penalties) tds. And assuming the Texans come out with a winning schedule, certainly viable numbers. The front runners right now would have to be Morgan Burnett, Charles Woodson, Revis, Jared Allen, JPP?
Keep in mind the Texans aren't the only team with TDs called back because of penalties. So let's no just assume no other NFL players got screwed on defensive TDs because of idiotic plays by their teammates. Joseph has played like he's worth that big contract. Which is more than I can say for most big money free agents the Texans signed.
I don't really care about the defensive player of the year but he and manning are both earning every bit of their contracts and more. If anything, the Texans just need another safety and another starting caliber CB opposite of Joseph. These two are by and far the best free agents the Texans have signed since their existence.
Huh? Manning hasn't been incredible, but he's been consistently good, which is about what everyone expected out of him. I'm not sure who else you'd be talking about...Vickers?
I think he's referring to all the free agent signings since the beginning of the franchise. The list of those performing at or above contract is pretty small. But fortunately most of the good signings have been in the last couple of years (Joseph, Manning, Wade Smith, Antonio Smith).
GQ is doing a nice job and will only get better. He's a hell of a kid. An average cornerback next to joseph and we're top five. I would be more than willing to give Mccain a shot over nfl star kareem. Joseph and Sproles have been the best signings. I don't know about DPOY right now, but he at least needs his own cool nickname!
The only db's that have been disappointing has been Kareem and to a much lesser extent Jason Allen. GQ's good, while Nolan and McCain have finally shown some progress. Don't know why Keo was in on some snaps, but if that was his chance, he blew it. Before the Manning tibia injury, I would have been happy if they moved Quin back to CB2, Nolan/Manning as the safeties, and Allen/McCain as nickel/dime. Have Kareem earn every second of pt starting at special teams.
In hindsight, dare I say we got the #1 corner available...Nnamdi is still Nnamdi and I haven't followed the Eagles games, but Joseph has absolutely helped the pass the defense and I can't imagine better from the other guy. . .
