I gave the cost for San Jacinto College, based on the tuition and fees my wife paid during her last semester there, in 2010.

Police assault...interesting way of defining things. Was it really an assault by police or was it an attempt to stop people from getting hurt? Edit...also the use of rubber bullets has been denied by Oakland PD. They stated they used tear gas and beanbag guns.
Given that they were firing rubber bullets, beanbags, and tear gas against (mostly) peaceful protesters, I think "assault" is a pretty fair term. Generally, the aggressor is "assaulting".

Oops. People have cameras, you idiots. Marine vet shot in the head with a rubber bullet. <object width="560" height="315"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/cMUgPTCgwcQ?version=3&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/cMUgPTCgwcQ?version=3&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="560" height="315" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object> It's also interesting to note that OPD seemed to choose the low income areas to start there shenanigans. If I had to guess, that would be too both lessen the risk of legal fallout, and to start where it was more likely to cause conflict - i.e., to make the police look less like the aggressor courtesy of the not-so-accurate media.
I dont see how putting up tent cities is the answer to the country's problems. I know the police statement saying the conditions are unsanitary is the reason they began asking the crowds to disperse, the vandalism and petty crime, etc...
I was just thinking the same thing...Why not go home at the end of the day and just reconvene the following morning? It's like a mini village of homeless people...kind of like under 59 downtown.
All I read from the LA Times was that the police started to break things up at city hall after protesters were throwing stuff at them. The article said they used flash bangs and batons came out too. I googled occupy Oakland rubber bullets and I didn't see any pics of rubber bullets, but I am on my phone. I did see a vid someone posted on YouTube of them being shot by a rubber bullet but I googled rubber bullet wound and it certainly didn't look anywhere as near severe as a rubber bullet wound. All this being said Oakland doesn't have the reputation of being the most peaceful place.
It's more dramatic to put up tent cities and gives the appearance of suffering even if it is manufactured. Even though I hate it this style of protesting has worked well.
