From wikipedia on the Iraq Oil Law: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iraq_hydrocarbon_law

[rquoter]The Bush administration hired the consulting firm BearingPoint to help write the law in 2004.[7][8] The bill was approved by the Iraqi cabinet in February 2007.[9] The Bush administration considers the passage of the law a benchmark for the government of Prime Minister Nuri Kamal al-Maliki.[10][11] One stumbling block is the unpopularity of the law, as it is perceived by the Iraqi people. An opinion poll conducted in 2007 by Oil Change International and other groups shows 63% of Iraqis surveyed would "prefer Iraq's oil to be developed and produced by Iraqi state-owned companies [than] by foreign companies". This goes some way to explaining why the law has stalled in the Iraqi parliament.[12][/rquoter]

This law would allow the supermajors to build out and operate Iraq's oil industry. Bush's eagerness to privatize Iraqi oil is pretty apparent. Sure, we won't get it for free, but the security of our supply can be better assured when Exxon etc controls it. And profits can be disproportinately returned to the US and pay predominantly Western executives.

you don't measure legality by a metric. Something is either legal or it isn't.

    definition of metric

What nuclear program was that? Oh, you mean the third-rate scientists forced to work on nuke stuff? I really don't think a handful of guys in labcoats who are unexcited about their job and had to bury the most rudimentary of equipment in their backyard are going to stand in the way of a popular uprising.

Unless, of course, you mean the massive nukes that are buried in Syria.

I dont think he should run again... Folks aren't blaming him anymore and calling for his resignation, due to all the positive military news.. There's nothing else to keep the naysayers (whether right or wrong) off of him, except making empty promises and instilling hope!!!.... He's made history already... Time to chill out and enjoy the benefits of being a global icon....

Here's to the hope that Iraq can stay a democratic and stable state after the U.S. troops pull out.

Hooray Obama can claim he brought all the troops home even though he tried to keep some there. Thank god for Iraqi's having a set of balls and say they could stay with the precondition of no automatic immunity. Its obviously not all that important that we stay there if we can't stay without immunity. Good for them now lets wrap of Afghanistan and gtfo.

How does Obama get credit for this when he promised all the troops out by 2009 and then the troops being out by 2011s end is Iraq's choice not his?

Hah! "Props" to Bush for realizing after the 2006 election smackdown that "stay the course" wasn't going to fly anymore with the American public. Props to Obama for making it his major campaign theme and forcing Bush to adjust policy.

The metric is 5-4 in this country.

    I just got home:

All U.S. troops to leave Iraq by the end of 2011

    Holy S..... that's cool

By way of our legal best interest Iraq is over.

That's some good lawyerin' . Priceless.

(better lawyerin' than enhanced interrogation briefs or" if the President does it, it's legal" opinion)
