I think I heard Charlie P say on his show the other day that Louisville is the most profitable basketball program in the country.

Yes, Louisville is the most profitable basketball program and they are actually more profitable than many football teams.

While the general rule is that Basketball is not a real huge money maker for schools compared to Football, that definitely is not the case at Louisville.

To sum up, exit fee goes up to 10 mil as soon as at least 1 of specifically identified teams joins. Marinatto did not say which team ....

    ralphDrussoAP Ralph D. Russo
But the teams have been reported as either Navy or Air Force. No timetable for getting anything done in the Big East, but how could they?

    ralphDrussoAP Ralph D. Russo
Big East is trying to move forward regardless of what's going on with Missouri, but clearly it's a stumbling block. OK, got to write

I really don't want Missouri in the SEC. Only way I'll take it is if there are two more Eastern schools that will join so that Alabama can stay in the West division. I want to play Auburn and LSU every year. Splitting them up would be an absolute joke.

Prevailing rumor is that Missouri is going to go east. Otherwise, it would be Auburn that would move and that would create a scheduling nightmare (though less so compared to a 13-team SEC).

Alabama will stay regardless and the SEC will never break up the Alabama/Auburn rivalry no matter what happens.

Why don't they just put Vanderbilt in the West along with A&M and Mizzou, and move Alabama and Auburn to the East together?

I wonder if C-USA will let UH and SMU back in, once the Big East crumbles? Both could be Southland Conference bound.

That's what I was thinking but I want to keep our game against LSU. It's probably the best rivalry in sports the past four years (with Saban leaving LSU for Miami then coming back to Alabama, close games, etc.)

Also I want to play A&M every year. We play them the second game of the season and we'll give the pledge a nice welcome to the SEC.

Jeez dude, you can't get everything you want. Vandy would have to give up its only rivalry with Tennessee. Sacrifices must be made.

meh...I just want Auburn/LSU. I just want A&M because I'll be in Houston and it would be nice to go to a Bama game only an hour and a half away instead of driving to Tuscaloosa which takes 10 hours.

Missouri curators gives chancellor Deaton authority to act on conference alignment and execute all contracts involved. A&M playbook again.

    ChuckCarltonDMN Chuck Carlton
Missouri inching along toward SEC. Basketball and football presence in Kansas City seems like preemptive step to maintain a presence.

    ChuckCarltonDMN Chuck Carlton
Missouri bottom line: Deaton can make a conference deal, calls its "a weighty decision." Curators seem on board with a possible change.

    ChuckCarltonDMN Chuck Carlton
Deaton expects decision to be "very expeditious" and as "rapidly as possible. ... We're looking out for what's best for U of Missouri."

    ChuckCarltonDMN Chuck Carlton
Missouri doesn't get to this point without a clear vision of the end game, which is SEC membership.

    ChuckCarltonDMN Chuck Carlton
Deaton just said if Missouri leaves, school would start in the new conference for 2012-13. That could be a problem for the Big 12.

    ChuckCarltonDMN Chuck Carlton
At least one source in the Big 12 has raised question of legal action for damages if schools can't fill or must pay $1M or more for game.

    ChuckCarltonDMN Chuck Carlton
BYU might be the only Big 12 expansion candidate who could replace Missouri in 2012. BE schools locked in for 27 months.

    ChuckCarltonDMN Chuck Carlton
While the 2012 exit could be posturing for Missouri on exit fees, the SEC has to get a 14th team ASAP. Schedule at 13 simply unworkable.

    ChuckCarltonDMN Chuck Carlton
At the same time, still hearing that Louisville and/or West Virginia tops the Big 12 preference on expansion ahead of BYU, for now.

There's no way I would have ever thought, back in August, that this stuff would STILL be going on at the end of October.

I would have welcomed the drawn out drama if A&M was still involved, but I want the Missouri thing settled quickly. Looks like they are past the point of no return.

    http://espn.go.com/blog/big12/post/_/id/36694/biggest-step-to-sec-still-ahead-of-mizzou

Biggest step to SEC still ahead of Mizzou

Missouri did two things in its two-day board of curators extravaganza in Kansas City.

First: Chancellor Brady Deaton has the authority to do whatever he finds necessary for Missouri regarding conference affiliation, without the approval of the board of curators.

That could mean leaving for the SEC, as previous reports have indicated. That could mean staying in the Big 12 and granting the Big 12 its media rights.

Whichever way you leaned or whatever you believed Missouri would do, it's doubtful that position changed after Friday's news conference.

Deaton did say whatever decision Missouri makes will be for the following school year, and not in 2012-13, as Big 12 interim commissioner Chuck Neinas indicated earlier this month.

But after being pressured by letters and editorials from Kansas City officials and business owners, Missouri has made another thing clear: it loves Kansas City. (And with that kind of barbecue, who wouldn't?)

If it leaves the conference, it wants to have a basketball tournament (possibly over the holidays, officials said) in Kansas City and a football game with a traditional rival (read: Kansas) played in Kansas City.

The city, host to a huge percentage of Missouri alums, stands to lose a lot if Missouri leaves the Big 12. Playing Kansas at Arrowhead Stadium and periodically hosting the Big 12 Tournament brings a lot to Kansas City.

If Missouri leaves the Big 12, it understandably doesn't want that to change. It would upset alums and alienate a portion of the fan base and city that's been good to the school since its inception.

But the biggest question -- Will they stay or will they go? -- still has no definitive answer.

Neinas says Missouri has until May -- the end of the school year - -to make the decision. Missouri surely would like to resolve the issue sooner.

For inquisitive fans, a Big East in peril and a Big 12 waiting to decide if it should or needs to expand, it means waiting a little longer for the Tigers to make their intentions known.

I'm not sure if I want Mizzou to bail or not.

It would open the door for 3 more teams in the Big 12, which could put UH in the discussion, but it would almost certainly kill the Big East's AQ status.

One thing is for sure, I don't want 6 more months of this crap.

Chuck Neinas statement from Big 12: “We look forward to discussing Missouri’s future with the Big 12 Conference."

    ChuckCarltonDMN Chuck Carlton
More Neinas: "The school has been involved with the Big 12 and its predecessor conferences since 1907."

    ChuckCarltonDMN Chuck Carlton
More, more Neinas: "It is propitious that the Big 12 Board of Directors has a regularly scheduled meeting on Monday. "

    ChuckCarltonDMN Chuck Carlton
Final Neinas: "Obviously, Conference membership will be thoroughly discussed at that time.”
