That's one of the things I've been trying to figure out my entire life. Why is it that the person at fault almost always survives, but the victim is the one who suffers? Maybe death is a reward and guilt is a punishment? Who knows?

Most of a car's structural safety is designed around the front for head on collisions, so if a T-bone occurs, the one getting hit by the side is always more screwed than the other. Then there's the size of the car. A sedan T-boning an SUV won't always cause injury to the point where a tragedy gets reported so you don't here about that as much. Plus, if it's a drunk driver, then she is most likely in a condition not to instinctively react to the ongoing collision, so her muscles are more relaxed in the event of, say flying out the windshield. It improves your chances more than tensing up and bracing for impacts.
Yes, I have considered the technical facts and that it is simply physics but like most people it is still difficult to comprehend and accept the fact that life is so unfair.
