Yes, but he signed the contract right? Rudy F. has a different type of case and probably isnt the greatest example, but his situation is worth mentioning since he would be the hometown star for Real Madrid if he played there. If Rudy goes back overseas after this current contract is up and he is contributing on a winning team then OHMMSS can say I told you so. However, in Rudy's case, I believe his threat to move back overseas was more of a tactic to force a trade or give more playing time. But thats just my opinion. He could very well have rather played with RealMadrid. You still have plenty other examples, most like the Gasols where they seem perfectly happy playing in the NBA rather than their hometown team Real Madrid. Maybe you just choose whatever league you can be a star in? Who knows.
McCalebb is way better than Llull is. Llul is not even actually a PG, even though for some reason the whole forum is under the delusion that he is. He's clearly a SG. As for McCalebb - he is a very good player, but I doubt the Rockets would sign him. He would command at least $3.5 million a year I would say. Still, there are better point guards in Euroleague than McCalebb.

The point is he is a popular Spanish player, and Real Madrid happened to be the team I was referring to due to that being the team Sergio Lull plays for. The point is, Gasol/Fernandez would be considered huge stars in their home COUNTRY as you just pointed out, regardless of city. Forgive me for not knowing where Pau shops for groceries.
Let me give you some insite on why that would never happen. It's not your fault you dont know that Real Madrid and Barcelona a bitter rivals. a Gasol playing there would be the equivalent of Kobe playing on the Celtics. I just won't happen.
While I get the whole "Barcelona vs. Madrid" thing, you do realize that Kobe is from Philly (to the extent that he's "from" any U.S. city) and he plays for the Lakers, righ? He even FORCED his way to the Lakers, who did not even have Shaq at that point (Shaq signed there a few weeks later). He was booed mercilessly when the All-Star Game was in Philly. The comparison is supposed to be to someone who was RAISED in a certain city and then ends up CHOOSING to play professionally (as opposed to being drafted) in a city with a rival team. An example would be if Shane Battier (a Detroit-area native) signed with the Boston Celtics, Chicago Bulls or L.A. Lakers (all three of which could be conceivable possibilities).
Isnt Sergio Llull from an island right off of Barcelona? By all accounts of Reeko Town and OHMSS, he should be getting booed out of the lineup at RealMadrid home games right since technically Barca would be closer to his hometown??? I think its safe to say the Gasols / Fernandez would be considered stars if they played for Real Madrid given what they have accomplished with the Spanish national team. Im sure the fans would get over it as much as Rockets fans would forgive Lebron James if he decided to come to Houston.
Real Madrid beat Armani Milano 85-78. Llull had again a solid game with 13-4 in 22 minutes. Sergio is playing very good in this start of season. From PG position his %s have improved a lot, his typical defense pressuring very aggressively the ball is being much more effective defending PGs than it was defending SGs. Also he has now the size advantage, crucial for 1on1 defense. Right now he's beating all PGs in the Spanish league thanks to his physical advantage. Yesterday he also played a very good game against Omar Cook in Euroleague -one of the best pure PGs in European bball-. Llull was very important in the win. His current assist per TO ratio in the ACB is 4,25. He still must improve in static offense, learn when to stop the tempo, acquire more reliability with the ball, and he still can avoid some difficult shots... but his speed with the ball is unmatched in Europe, he's breaking the defenses very easily, he's creating a lot of advantages playing the p&r. His team is one of the most dangerous teams running largely thanks to him (he's obviously constantly pushing the tempo). All in all, time is giving reason to his coach so far, he decided to return Llull to his natural position after 2 years playing the SG and so far he's very pleased with his performance. The point is that, no matter how he does from here to the end of season, this is going to be anyway a very positive season for Llull's development at PG position thinking in the NBA. He's a smart guy, his coach has been one of the better pure PGs in spanish basketball history; I think they can build a very positive relationship and together improve Sergio's knowledge of the game along the season.

Or maybe you post on the forums of American basketball teams that own the draft rights to all the point guards in Spain that are better than Llull also? That's just something you do?
