What sucks about that is how phenomenal Earl was, and they couldnt make it.

I know one guy doesnt make a team (Barry Sanders), but when you watch those vids of Earl tearing through defenders (and see how much bad shape hes in now), you just hope that he had the achievements that went along with his efforts. Too bad thats not the case. :(

I wish I cared about this game or could say I was a "true fan" of either the Titans or Texans. Of all years for a Titans-Texans matchup to actually matter, this is the year. Unfortunately with the departure of both Fisher and Young, my ties to the Houston Oilers franchise are now gone and I no longer consider the Titans to be "my team" anymore. Give me all the crap you want about supporting a team over a player/coach etc, but I had a connection with the Houston Oilers who then became the Titans, and that connection is now gone.

What's funny is that the Titans success this year so far, given their expectations with a new coach, new QB etc.... (Minus the Colts Peyton Manning of course), shows how overrated Jeff Fisher was as a coach in my opinion.

Whoever wins this game, should win the division, and for the Houston Texans fans out there who I have "trolled" for so long, I honestly hope you guys can actually prove me wrong this year and make the playoffs.

I think the personnel of the Titans is still pretty decent. It's still basically Fisher's team. They will miss Fisher in the coming years, unless Munchak really is that good.

I wouldn't mind bringing Fisher over if Kubiak is fired (which he should be if the Texans don't make the playoffs).

And I still think the whole thing about people "discovering "they were still Oilers fans after they drafted VY was pretty lame.

It's players from the Fisher era, but just shows that they were not coached well then. Fisher constantly underachieved with the talent around him. He never adapted from his run run pass, win on a last second fg game plan.

seriously -- how could anyone forget if we were 1Q away from the freaking SuperBowl???

The Oilers *never* got that close; especially after 1980.

Not sure how this game decides the division winner in Week 7. New Year's Day may be a more fitting game to bestow that label. We still need that sense of urgency, though.

BTW, not sure what your ties to the Oilers were, but that team chronically underachieved and subsequently jettisoned the city. For me, that's akin to making mistakes repeatedly and, rather than owning up to that responsibility, simply running away and pretending it never happened. Good riddance.

it's cool. mad as I was when they left (and I do hate that franchise indeed), it was *hard* not to root for the likes of Jorge, McNair, Fisher, Del Greco, and Marcus Robertson in the SuperBowl. Yet that last play was ever so perfect. So... Oilers.

Wow, you really hung on a long time. I pretty much abandoned any oilers tie i had to them after McNair retired. I liked fisher but wasn't going to like a team just because of the coach.

it was very easy for me. after enduring everything we had endured as Oiler fans...the thought of that franchise having a championship parade so quickly in another city made me want to vomit.

I know AJ's out but what's the latest on James Casey?

    Will he play on Sunday?

It's massive. Loser can do no better than tie the series on NYD, and hurts them in the division record tiebreaker as well. Texans don't have a significantly easier schedule the rest of the way than the Titans do.

It doesn't decide the division winner, but losing would put Tenn in the driver's seat.

this is right. if we lose this game, we're really behind the 8 ball.

    Pretty much.

Win and we can go 6-3 and comfortably take the division, possibly even 5-4 (depending on tiebreakers).

Lose and we pretty much *have* to go 7-2.

Somebody has to get axed or demoted if we lose.. Not necessarily Kubiak(preferred), but somebody needs to be held accountable for this terrible start...Everything that can go right for us to grab hold of this division has far exceeded what was needed to happen.. Our injuries are no excuse because prior to Andre's injury, we should have beaten all(except Ravens) the teams we've played thus far.. Now its come back to haunt us in the worst way...

If we win, then we just need to win 2 for every loss - very reasonable to be 10-6

I was hoping for 12-4, and while mathematically possible, unlikely. This is no doubt a pendulum game...I really see a win. I see the titans as playing over themselves and the Texans playing under. If they lose, I'm packing it just like ima and the whole horde will but I really see a win, and then if we win, 6-3 in the easier part of the schedule is fine with me...

But trust me, I'll be wearing my tin foil hat, crossing my fingers, buring a candle, whatever it takes for a win! -

I think it's much bigger for the Titans, though, because of the loss to Jacksonville. If they fall to 0-2 while the Texans go to 2-0 + a guaranteed split of H-to-H with the home game remaining - while I'd never put any failure past the Texans' grasp... that would be a pretty big hill for Tennessee to climb; much bigger than the one Houston will have to climb if they lose, IMO.

Plus, I think Houston's finishing schedule is much easier, including that home game with Tennessee. The Titans still have the Saints and Bills (plus, like us, the Bengals, Falcons and Bucs) + two games against the Colts, who, while not good, will not be the rollover as the season progresses that they were in week 1 for us.

Don't forget: we lost Foster for (basically) 3 games. I'm not making excuses - but AJ hasn't been the only significant injury. I dare say we beat NO with a healthy Foster.

Then again, the titans didn't have the expectations we had at the beginning of the season. As long as they're still in the playoff race, they're playing with dealer's money. I wonder if their fans feel that way or if they're as jaded as us.
