They didn't. They didn't. Exactly. And they're an 0-5 team going absolutely nowhere. Not a single contender - even a contender that *needed* a WR - thought he was worth it. But, yeah - let's burn the city down anyway.
Guys the point is that most 4th round picks bust out, why not take a shot at a quality piece in a position of severe weakness? Kubiak and the org did what it always does, takes the less risky route....playing not to lose instead of playing to win. DD
EVERY contender did this. An 0-5 team going nowhere was the only team that thought he was worth even a 5th round pick. BTW, two WRS have been dealt in the past week; here are their '09 and '10 numbers: WRa: 134 catches; 1,830 yards 14 TDs and 31 of 32 starts WRb: 85 catches; 1,565 yards; 11 TDs and 12 of 32 starts including 14 missed games. In fact, WRb hadn't played 10 or more games before last year since 2006. (Pssst: The Texans traded for WRa)
AdamSchefter Adam Schefter Rams HC Steve Spagnuolo said QB Sam Bradford has a high ankle sprain and is now in a walking boot. AJ Feeley is Rams No. 2 QB. Looks like the Broncos just wanted Floyd to suffer on a bottom feeding team rather than to reward him for his trade demands and ship him to a playoff team.
Rams have to play Seahawks and Cardinals twice , possibly getting wins there . Niners are good enough to beat the Rams twice i think.
This is oversimplified, but hope this explains why the Texans are playing to win. 4th round picks are successful around 50% of the time and generally sign cheaply for at least 4 years. Due to signing 4th round pick cheaply, the Texans can sign someone about as good as Lloyd for about 4 years instead of splitting money between two vets. Also, Texans would have to make cuts to make room for Lloyd. The loss of these guys may counter any improvement that Lloyd brings. Lloyd's contract only has approximately 0.5 years left. So Lloyd for half a season and two vets at half Lloyd's salary each for 4 seasons versus 50% chance at a good player, a player as good as Lloyd for 4 seasons, and whoever the Texans keep because they don't have to make room for Lloyd. This doesn't even take into account chemistry issues. Football is a team game. There is a reason for training camp. There is a reason for few trades. Football is a team game that doesn't reward teams built with mercenaries (see Redskins for last decade and Eagles this season).
Lloyd isn't even that great. Again, he had a breakout year last year and other than that, he's been average at best. Plus, he's going to be a FA and will be looking for a payday, which the texans wouldnt really be able to offer given their other needs to resign. So you're looking at a temporary rental who wouldnt even be able to get the entire playbook for another couple weeks. Third, texans just traded for a WR in mason.
Put down the Madden Franchise mode and come back to reality bro... You do that trade for LLoyd more often than not... I think the fear of a 1 year rental outweighed the fear of losing a 5th rd pick was what the front office was thinkiing... Dont know why but thats my guess
It's amazing to me how these things grow such roots. When did Brandon Lloyd suddenly become an elite WR? And when did WR become a massive concern for the Texans, anyway? They have three Pro Bowlers as targets on most Sundays. Are people unaware of this? Are they grasping that an 0-5 team is the only one that deemed him worthy of trade? Sheez.....
LOL! Reality bro is that no team in the NFL traded an unconditional 5th round pick for Lloyd. Draft picks are the life blood of NFL teams in reality. It is better to sign a player to a FA contract than to pay him that same contract and give another team picks. PS. I don't play Madden, Fantasy Football, etc, but good job with the ad hominem attack.
Well lets stand pat,go with what we've got, and keep picking in the 10th-20th range every year ... sounds like a plan bruh...
True only the rams got him...But you better believe , there is some under the table type connections between the two teams involved ... No way that was the best offer given to them for Lloyd.... Dont believe the hype... Thats the American way!!!
And E) AJ will most likely play this week. So with the addition of Mason, we really don't have a need. Schaub has 4 good targets to throw to now and that's not even including Jacoby or Arian. IMO, we have fantasy football to thank for this, but that's another thread.
We finished 1st in passing offense in 2009; 4th last year and we're 9th this year - with AJ missing a 1/3 of our games and everyone screaming that we absolutely, positively HAVE TO have a #2. When in h-e-double hockey sticks did the #2 WR become this breaking point for the Houston Texans? I think they'll be just fine when AJ returns. Settle the kettle, bruh.
Being 4th and 9th hasn't been enough to amount to jack squat overall. If we had the 2000 Ravens defense, it wouldn't matter...if we had Peyton Manning, it wouldn't matter...but we have what we have....and we need to start winning sooner rather than later. Schaub and AJ are both on the wrong side of 30. If you're going to win with those guys, you're going to have to do it pretty quickly. If Kubes wants to save his job, he's going to have to do it pretty quickly.
Yeah, maybe - never ceases to amaze me how certain things grow into deafening roars despite overwhelming contrary evidence. I'm not going to break down every NFL roster - but I'd wager there are 28-31 teams in football that would trade their skill players for ours. Not many have 3 Pro Bowlers, two dependable additional options plus Dressen, Casey, Jacoby - who all have flashed potential..... But yes - what they lack is Brandon frickin' Lloyd.
