I not only support Obama on this, I wish he'd go further. I agree with Gary Johnson. I'd sent in a strikeforce. This is a legit case of genocide where our "righteous might" should be exercised.

I have no problems with this. I hope it does not escalate.

Your article was written in 2010 and seems to say that these resources were recently discovered. What the heck does this have to do with our initial moves in Afghanistan?

Please show something from before 9/11 that countries were interested in this mineral wealth of Afghanistan, and that it would be the main reason as opposed to that small detail of them killing 3000 Americans.

Not to mention, I may not like the war on drugs, but I see no reason to excuse the behavior of the Mexican cartels either.

And why the heck does it being true humanitarian effort make a freaking difference? I am sick to death of those who suggest that American money and soldiers should be used for some ridiculous global good, and that looking out for ourselves is inherently wrong.
I don't begrudge this Ugandan thing in itself because a hundred soldiers is nothing. But I don't understand why we have to justify everything we do in the name of some global good or democracy or whatever, whether it was a stupid war in Iraq or an important one in Afghanistan.

Isn't the Lake Kivu region one of the most r****dly war tonr places in the world? Remember reading about how illegal mining of precious metals vital the the telecom and solar energy industry is causing major problems for these people - selenium or telurium or something like that. Read a National Geographic article about it years ago.

Also, Lake Kivu is considered a potential hazard as a lake eruption. Similar to what happened at Lake Munon and that other place, both in Cameroon. But people are too messed up by the war to care about it. Apparently the big threat there is methane at the bottom of the lake bed. Some people believe if the matter isn't resolved then the lake will erupt - potentially killing tens of thousands or hundreds of thousands.

Interesting timing..with the Machine Gun Preacher playing at film festivals now and Gerard Butler doing promotions for it. It must be truly raising awareness to the issue. Thank God for Sam Childers. I'm very glad Obama is doing this..about time someone acted in this area. Although Kony believes he is a Christian prophet, he is neither. His "faith" is partially bases on local tribal beliefs mixed with Christianity. Similarly to the Catholic/ Voodoo mixing that still happens in some Cajun areas. The LRA is truly a cult brainwashing kidnapped children into becoming soldiers. What they are doing is some of the most horrific things in the world. Forcing children as young as 8 to kill their own parents, cutting off limbs, breasts, ears, noses etc of women, raping little girls, and slaughtering families just to spread fear. They are truly disgusting.

It's not Christianity, but history shows us that it wouldn't be surprising If it was...

I'm not sure that the President should unilaterally deploy troops to do this. In my opinion, Congress should have either given the President the authority to conduct operations in Uganda, or passed a Letter of Marque against Kony a long while back (international law be damned).
