I thought he looked tentative yesterday, on the backend of a pretty pedestrian game last week against Oakland. I know both teams stacked the box and, well, not many run well on Baltimore as is - but I was alarmed to watch Tate run much more effectively.

Do you think the hammy is still (or re-) bothering him? He just doesn't look "normal". He's dropping passes, too.

I'm a game or two away from full-blown worry.

Given the circumstances surrounding the last 3 games...

He needs to have a receiving threat to compliment him....same with Schaub.....we need AJ back...yesterday.

he looked better v. pittsburgh than the last two weeks. i don't think it's the fault of the o-line. he doesn't look explosive and he is not making the phenominal cuts that make him great. the short catches where he had room to rumble produced very little. i do believe something is not right with him rather than the league has figured him out.

Baltimore has a top flight Rush D, and Oakland literally made their entire gameplan around stopping him. No need to panic. If Tennessee and Jacksonville plug him up, though, then it will be time to worry.

I'll have to watch a little closer to see if any lanes were opening up yesterday, but on the surface, it seems pretty obvious that teams are stacking up against the run with AJ out.

That said, Tate did look better yesterday and had a 4.6 average vs. Foster's 3.3 average. Maybe Tate's physical style is better suited for teams stacking the line than Foster's Eric Dickerson-type running style.

the screen play is basically a running game and foster was making it happen last week against the raiders. It could be the Ravens game plan was to stop foster, just like rice was being held in check until Cody had to leave the game with an injury.

His production doesn't bother me, its the way he looks out there. He was playing at another level last year and even during the preseason. Tentative or lack of explosion seem to be the right words. Reminds of Carl Landry after he came back from his first major knee injury.

He'll rebound I'm certain, but right now he isn't his normal self.

I was about to say did we forget that Foster had the best FB lead blocking for him? HUGE difference.

Every week it's a different running back. Unlike other positions in the NFL, it's the most inconsistent position to say who's the best.

I think it's the fact that teams have just been stacking the box since we don't have a legitimate receiving threat to stretch the field right now. Now, like someone said earlier, if he can't run against Tennessee and Jacksonville, we might need to start worrying. I'm not panicking yet though.

It's really funny to me that Ric makes all kinds of excuses for Kubiak and Schaub, but when Arian F'ing Foster has an off game, he makes a thread to talk about his worry.

Well, a) it's now been two games; b) I'm worried; not piling on. He's an integral component and if he's... not 100%, or missing Leach... or simply - whatever: that's a concern.

Besides, there're no shortage of Schuab and/or Kubiak threads. And they'll eventually make an appearence here, too, I'm sure.

like mentioned before, the opponents have been stacking the box A. And B, they have gone up against big and strong defensive fronts which the texans o-line has a history of struggling against

I definitely think Leach's absence, without a suitable replacement is a key reason for our lack of a running game against good run defenses thus far.

You just can't take away a quality pro-bowl caliber blocker and expect the offense to be just as good... and he's still opening up holes in Baltimore, so its not like he was just some product of the zone-blocking scheme here.

Also, while Casey may occupy defenders as being a pass catching threat, that becomes useless in for-sure running situations, and he does not open up or occupy the same space like Leach did despite what many here think.

We ran pretty well last year against both the Ravens and the Raiders... hell, there likely wasn't a team that truly stopped the running game last year.

We really should have kept Leach.

But no, we re-sign Jacoby freakin Jones.
