You don't even know what Marxism is. You might know what Stalinism is, or Maoism, but you have no idea about what Marx is about if you're equating his ideas with cannibalism or rape. His principal work was based on a critique of capitalism, a critique that has been more or less accepted by all modern OCED countries in their implementation of mixed, regulated economies. Do you know why we don't have 13-year olds running around with their arms chopped off? I guess listening to Marx in that case is analogous to rape. That you automatically shut down, and refused to consider anything as soon as you heard the word "communism" is telling. You seem to be manufacturing your own fears. Tell me how it feels to be the "righteous" stockpiling weapons, and living in fear of ideas you do not even fully understand.
Disagree. If your conclusion that Marx is the reason we don't have that anymore or say the Triangle Fire was true, the United States would still have those incidents. What did Samuel Gompers have to do with Marxism, after all. Marxism is a political philosophy which I hold as different from Fabian Socialism, which is the socialism that exists in European societies, and which I think is acceptable and can be shown to work. Marxism itself, on the other hand, will more or less end up leading to Stalinism, Maoism, and all those disgusting so-called "revolutionary" movements. Marx is without a doubt probably the most important political philosopher of the last 200 years - but I wouldn't necessarily call that a good thing. The excesses of capitalism can and have been quelled with movements beyond his writings. Marx himself wasn't anti-democratic persay, but it's the end result of his writings of what he wrote, which is in the end all that matters. Afghanistan and earlier, Vietnam shows that democracy is much, much more than just having the people in power. I agree with Hightoper in "Communism is violence", and I would fight against it to the end. He's just more than a little proactive in his beliefs that Communism is actually significant or something to worry about. Just like right-wing extremists go into hysterics about the coming "Sharia invasion" or whatever.
so, your defense of Mao and Stalin is "we just weren't rigorous enough in the implementation of comrade Marx's ideology... which part do you have a problem with: didn't kill enough Jews, or didn't kill enough Bourgeoisie? IMWTK
Thank you, Kojirou, but when can I be worried? <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/avG4LgTF0ho" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
You should be worried now. Over a thousand have already been arrested at these protests so clearly they have no respect for the law (very similar to the Wisconsin Union protests). These people have some weird moral code where if you are in a group you can completely disregard the law. Good job citizens. disobey the law.
You're hilarious. George Bush started a pre-emptive war against international law in which tens of thousands of people died and hundreds of billions of dollars were spent and you're worried about protesters? It's going to get much worse than this, I would buckle your seatbelt buddy. Thirty years of f'n Reaganomics is about to set this country on fire.
http://english.peopledaily.com.cn/200504/28/eng20050428_183078.html Yao Ming named Chinese "model worker" Basketball player Yao Ming was named a national "labor hero" by the Chinese government on Wednesday. "The State Council, or the Chinese central government, has approved Yao's nomination," an official with the Shanghai Municipal Federation of Trade Unions told Xinhua Wednesday. Upon hearing the news, the 24-year-old Houston Rockets center Yao, whose team in National Basketball Association play-offs, said via his broker Zhang Chi, "I take it as one more honor and encouragement from my country."
I'm not a fan of Marxism but you are laying too much on Karl Marx. Keep in mind he died in 1883 well before the revolution in Russia and other Communist revolutions. Marx envisioned the process of a society becoming communist as an evolutionary process. While Marx advocated revolution from studying him I doubt he would've approved of anything like the horrors of Stalinism, the Cultural Revolution and the Killing Fields.
Shouldn't they be protesting our current President, Obama, who lied about the war withdrawals, received millions in corporate money, supports bank bailouts and TARP, raids medical mar1juana facilities in states where they are legal, health care cronyism, and assassinates our citizens?
Ahh. Thank you. I didn't think about Yao Ming. So all of these Communists here at this website are Chinese?
Maybe when they have an influential voice and we actually see the OWS people in general call for the destruction of the government? Look, Communists and other leftist idiot groups like ANSWER marching in these protests is nothing new. Give them any reason, the signs come out. And even now, they're still far less of a threat to Washington compared to the Tea Party and their demagogues. A couple thousand nutjobs marching is nothing to be concerned about. Like the socialists and other leftists who massively disapproved of the Soviet Union in the 30s, right? Oh wait. Marx may have envisioned things as "evolutionary", but the fact remains that the concept of revolution is important to Marxism, which is precisely what delineates it from the Fabians and is the reason for Communism's inherently violent nature. It's not like Lenin or even Stalin was some just giant heretic - Leninism came about precisely because it was clear due to the boon of wealth that was formed in Europe during the late 19th century, wealth that was spread to ALL classes and so belied Marxism. And Stalin just took Leninism to its logical conclusions.
Nah, old people don't give a sh** enough to bother typing on a BBS. Passion, especially wrongheaded passion, is for young people. And, absolute opinions are usually from people without much experience.
What do you expect when you show up at D&D calling people communists simply because they disagree with you. Act like a fool, and you're apt to be called one.
I was right, he didn't answer my question. I gave him the benefit of the doubt that since he quoted my question he was actually answering it. If he didn't answer it but quoted it, then he should focus on reading. I never asked if he agreed with communism. I asked if he had a problem with communists having free speech. He quoted that question and said he objected to their speech. The problem was either in his answer if he was actually responding to my question, or in not responding to my question. Please pay attention.
Leon Trotsky disagrees. I don't think Marx ever envisioned a cult of personality or a totalitarian state dominated by a single individual as with Stalin or did he ever envision forcing intellectuals and professionals to become farmers as what happened in the Cultural Revolution. Communism as envisioned by Marx is a pipe dream that is as unrealistic as Rand's Utopia of Greed but I don't see anything in Marx's writings that would indicate that Marx intended anything like Stalin.
