Do you think we'd find a better talent with a 3rd round pick? Lloyd is a top 15 receiver in the NFL.

Given that the NFL has a hard cap, if the Texans can resign Lloyd next year, they can also sign him as a free agent next year without giving up a 3rd. So the 3rd round pick is for the remaining games of this season. Which is quite hefty.

I can understand the move more if the Texans hadn't lost Mario for the season, because one can argue that they might have trouble throwing huge money at both Mario and Foster next season. But otherwise, the Texans aren't old. It's not like clock is running out on their ability to contend. The only clock that's running is Kubiak's tenure here, and I don't think many people would mind replacing him anyway.

But if Lloyd works they could franchise tag him to keep him....

We have enough young talent to where a 3rd round pick is not all that imporant.....just another 22 year old guy.....

    Play to win NOW !

Patriots/Rams have 'expressed interest' in Lloyd according to Mort.
(Since the Mason thread got locked, according to Schefter, if Mason catches 33 or more passes, Jets get a 7th round pick. 32 or less and Jets get nothing.)

Edit: AdamSchefter: Jets traded Derrick Mason for an If pick. If Mason catches 33 or more passes for Texans, Jets get a 7. If he doesn't, they get nothing.

Lloyd is not that good that we would franchise him if we did trade for him. That one year of a tag on him would cost almost what a 3 year non guarantted one would. I don't care if we go to the Super Bowl and he wins the MVP of the game. Either foster or Mario is getting tagged.

Kubiak needs to make a move like this a third rounder is no good to him next year if he is fired!

Niners, Patriots, Rams interested according to Jay Glazer. I think you can give up on Lloyd coming to Houston.

I think a conditional 4th would be a fair offer. 4th if he gets X amount of targets, 5th if he doesn't.

Count out the Patriots and the Broncos are also shopping WR Eddie Royal as well.

    AdamSchefter Adam Schefter
Turns out that Brandon Lloyd is not the only Broncos WR on the trade block. Eddie Royal also is. Each player in last year of his contract.

    AdamSchefter Adam Schefter
As @mortreport reported, do not look for the Patriots to pull the trigger on any deal for Broncos WR Brandon Lloyd. Deal there won't work.

    mortreport Chris Mortensen
Patriots' interest in Brandon Lloyd hit a wall on contract but makes sense - any Denver WR knows NE concepts from time w Josh McDaniels.

Usually when I see "DD" at the end of a post, it explains why I disagreed with everything above it, but I'm all for making this move.

Our offense with AJ is already scary, having two legitimate options next to him would be downright terrifying.

It's worth risking a Kubiak extension to have a deep playoff run.

Plus, if we give the division to the Titans this year, I'm going to shoot myself.

A 6th round pick for a top 20 WR in the league who would instantly become our best #2 WR in franchise history?

A no brainer IMO, I would even give up a 4th round pick for him. Unless the FO thinks this would hamper our ability to re-sign Mario or Foster, just do it!

I'm a little shocked that they are only getting offers of a 7th round pick for Lloyd. GM's act like they have a good success rate on picks 4th-7th, but they rarely amount to anything.

4th round picks are about 50% successful. Texans already traded 7th round pick conditionally. Football is a team game. You are not going to see a team trade high picks for 11 games unless that team is already on the top.

Funny thing, teams on the top of their game are the ones usually trading players for picks.
