Didn't see this anywhere: http://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/216009/ESPN_Secret_Schedule_Of_82_Games_After_1_Month_Delay Marc Stein writes that the NBA league office may be planning to play a full slate of games even if the start of the season is delayed one month. "e advised that strong rumblings continue to be conveyed to ESPN.com about the league preparing a secret schedule that starts Dec. 1 and still manages to pump out 82 games," Stein wrote. Buy or Sell Secret 82 game schedule? (Im cool if a poll should go here btw)
Sell. The only way I think it could happen would be going MLB style; instead of playing a team once then again later in the season, have them come in and play a series with back to backs. The fatigue factor would eventually kick in though.
No way. If the season started in two weeks we would be absolutely terrible. Its gonna take us at least 20 games to get acclimated to McHale. If we're lucky. I'd rather have a training camp and 4-5 game mini pre-season. Plus it gives Morey at least some time to make a miracle trade. I'm crossing my fingers for Westbrook. I don't think Westbrook and Durant can coexist. Lowry would make a perfect fit IMHO for the Thunder. Probably a dream, but we need a superstar, obviously.
You better keep those opinions to yourself, a lot of posters on here think Lowry >>>> Westbrook, for some odd reason.
Westbrook, Sefalosha, and Aldrich for Lowry, Scola, and Budinger. Westbrook Martin Sefalosha Patterson Hayes Thabeet Aldrich Flynn Dragic Lee Williams Morris Hill
LOL. Lowry is second fave player on the team, but sorry, Westbrook could average 30 as a #1 option and immediately put Houston in the running for other top players. And he's not even 23 yet. But pipe dream.
If there are more games crammed into the schedule then we all know the Rockets will have the most back2back games...I mean it sure always seems that way
Well, we are one of the youngest teams out there, I don't think back to backs would be the issue, I think it would be lost practices if anything.
I do believe the league office is working on things like this, but that doesn't mean they're anywhere close to reality. I lump things like this in with trade rumors and win predictions. I'm sure this is just one of many discussions being had in terms of fall back planning, etc. They would be foolish business-wise NOT to think this way.
It's a physiological play/ploy from Stern. He wants to dangle the carrot in front of the players to make a deal.
This. He has said so many things to increase the enmity and distrust in him and the league office, that he is trying to soften it up with this. Give them hope of this and then maybe they will end up taking the owners deal. In 1999, from Feb 5th to May 5th they played 50 games per team. Roughly 16-17 games a month. That schedule was notoriously attrocious with B2B2B's. But extended 1 month withstart on Jan 5 could fit ~67 games and 2 months to Dec 5th would give you 82 games. However, they will not be able to extend the season this year because of the Olympics. Typically the reg season ends in April and extending into May would likely ensure any stars on the NBA Finals and possible the Conference Finals team would not be able to practice with the US team and logically play at well, especially with Coach K as coach. And the key star players, e.g. Wade/Lebron/Melo, want to play in the Olympics. In short, sell.
