Anyone else playing Halo since the beta playlist came out? I actually love Halo again. Ever since the first game Bungie has progressively made it more and more casual-friendly and thus alienating their playerbase. Since 343 (Microsoft's hand picked team) has taken over they've done nothing but say and do the right thing. The title update has more or less addressed all of my major issues with the game.

    Some highlights:
    1. There are zero bloom (reticle bloom/recoil) gametypes that essentially make the game like Halo:CE (Halo1).
    2. They nerfed the ever living hell out of armor lock.
    3. Meleeing someone no longer simply pops their shield, if they're low enough it will kill them outright.
    4. Pistol is now a 4-shot kill weapon (DMR is still 5/Needle is down to 6 from 7)
Note: When Halo: Anniversary comes out pistol will be a 3 shot kill weapon again! My best guess is they will make DMR a 4shot weapon at that point; which will be nice as well.
    5. Gametypes that aren't Zero Bloom (ZB) are about 85% of what it used to be. It's still garbage compared to ZB, but it is a vast improvement over the original Reach settings.

There is actually skill in the game again, and there is actually a skill gap once more.
In some ways Reach is now even better than the original Halo; for example I love Sprint. I always felt the movement was way too slow in the previous 3 games. Now that you can chase people and the kill times aren't ridiculously slow the game is extremely fast paced and exciting. Needless to say I have Halo: Anniversary pre-ordered. Hit me up on Live if you want to play!

More than you might think, a lot of people have come back due to the update. Have you tried it? To each his own, I'm not going to get all defensive about it if you or others don't like the game. This isn't a fanboy thread like the Battlefield3 one, it's open to discussion.

Reach is a good game, it brought me back into the fold.

However, Halo, almost more than any other shooter franchise, is guilty of releasing what essentially amounts to patches and calling them full new release titles.

I see little reason for me to stop playing Reach and get this new game.

Nah, I'm just saying that nobody on my friends list plays this anymore.

    A) Halo: Anniversary is using Reach's multiplayer component. This is more about the update to Halo: Reach.
    B) You don't have to buy Anniversary to even play the new maps coming out with it, they will be purchasable separately.
    C) Halo: Anniversary is $40. I preordered it at the Microsoft Store in the Galleria, they'll be having a midnight launch party and you get a $25 gift card along with the game (if you preordered).
    D) I don't really agree with your initial assessment. Halo: Reach is a complete departure from every other game in the series, and the graphics are light years better than Halo3/ODST. Also, again from this game forward 343/Microsoft is making all of the Halo games -- it's not Bungie anymore (They made all of them except Halo: Wars, which wasn't even a FPS).

Yeah, my friends list used to be nothing but Reach (I played with a lot of people going to MLG tournaments) now it seems like everyone is playing something random. You should definitely check out the update though, I think you'll really like it. It's not like it's hard to get a game or anything either, it's extremely quick.

    A) So they're basically taking Halo Reach and repackaging it to play like Halo 1?
    B) A map pack, got it. (for me personally, I don't buy map packs, never have, never will)
    C) I don't see any reason to get it, even for that price, mainly because I find nothing wrong with Reach. This game doesn't sound like it is worth the buy, based on your breakdown of the changes/updates. Especially with Halo 4 on the way.
    D) Yes, which is why I said Reach is a good game. I was extremely, extremely disappointed with 3 and ODST. I had to be talked into buying Reach a year after it came out because I was so expecting another "patch" game.

No...and again you don't even have to get Halo: Anniversary. This is more about the update to Halo: Reach's multiplayer. I generally don't buy map packs either, unless they're incredible or I play the game non-stop. I've bought maybe 2, ever.

Halo: Anniversary is a graphical remake of the original Halo. It runs the original Halo engine, with graphical improvements layered over it. You can literally push one button during the game and it will look exactly like the original game did 10 years ago. Its' multiplayer component will be using the Reach engine because they didn't want to fragment the playerbase. It will come with map remakes from the original Halo (some of the best maps ever I might add), 1 map is from Halo PC (I was a big-time Halo PC player, and this is easily one of the best maps in the series), and 1 from Halo 2.

You do not need to buy Halo: Anniversary or any of these maps to enjoy the new title update! All of the changes made in the title update will still be playable for Reach owners when Anniversary comes out. You don't have to buy it at all...unless you care about the original Halo or the maps. Follow me?

Halo 4 won't even be out until next November at least.

i like that 343 took over the credits and the zero bloom makes it feel like im rewarded for firing first on an opponent.

OK, so let me get this straight.

Halo: Anniversary is essentially a remake of the single player game using Reach's graphics? And its multiplayer component will mesh with the Reach's playerbase? Meaning that the multiplayer will be the same as Reach, but with some new maps?

And what do you mean by "enjoy the new title update"? Is Reach somehow getting updated/patched for free here? I must have missed that part.

Next November is great timing for me, I'm not remotely ready for a new title yet.

Hate Halo. Oh look, there's a guy right in front of me with a machine gun, let's both start jumping around and shooting each other and see who can take out the other's shields and finally get the kill first!

Basically you're telling me you didn't read the original post at all. Halo: Reach has a beta play list this second with immense improvements to the game. You can play it for free...right now...

    Pretty much.

    Yes.

There will likely be a new "classic" playlist with 3shot pistol, etc. With that said, the answer to your question is yes. Halo: Anniversary will come with Halo: Reach's multiplayer on the disc. Alternatively it will also come with DLC codes, so you can just download the maps to your hard drive. If you already have Halo: Reach, this will allow you to just pop in the Halo: Reach disc to play those maps since the multiplayer is the same.

YES! It's already live. The beta playlist is called "TU Beta".

It definitely isn't like that with the new update. Most people are using Pistol or DMR...which are both single shot weapons. As for jumping around, I do it -- but only if I'm low on health. Anyway, to each his own. :)

The kill times were incredibly slow before, the game itself was really slow because of it. Getting the first shot in definitely is an advantage. I play very aggressive now, before the update even if you engaged 2 crappy players you were almost guaranteed to die. Now, I don't really care -- I push like crazy. It's very fun.
