to recap:

-- a few people are geeked about seeing the Yankees six times a year
-- everyone under 30 thinks the Astros have no history of consequence in the NL. If they can't remember it, it doesn't matter, right?
-- a number of people are intrigued with, and perhaps even excited about, the possibility of a meaningful rivalry with the Rangers
-- The DH still sucks
-- The AL still sucks
-- Bud Selig can KISS MY ASS, the no-account son-of-a-b****.

The AL is fake baseball.

Guess we have to go get the requisite FAT FAT FAT guy to be the DH.

Not sure how scheduling will go (I know the plan is out there, but too lazy to search), but wouldn't that be about 27 west coast games under the current format (3 away series against each team)? That would be a third of our road games.

Currently we play 9 games on the west coast, plus a few more every 6 years due to interleague.

I know. It would be nice if this thread had waited until there was some confirmation from another source.

I'd like to see an explanation for that one. Followed the Astros myself since 99, there has never been a mention of 'Astros are readying themselves for their upcoming series against xxx, as always it's sure to be a heated few games because of their past'

Based on what? Next year, they're scheduled for 40 divisional road games. Even if you scale that down based on a smaller division, you're talking 32 divisional road games, and at most 8 of them against the Rangers. There would be at least 24, and maybe as many as 30-32 AL West coast road games. That's a significant part of a MLB schedule.

That's what I was thinking. Unless they decide to change the schedule so you don't have as many game with teams in your own division.

And count me as one who could care less that we get to play the Yankees and Red Sox. Big. Deal. To me they are just another team.

Would rather see games against teams with which we've built a history.

Are you looking in the media? Because, they don't write that way. For an example of how our NL history matters to *some* (not all, and I respect that) fans, look no further than some of these threads here every season. I will mock one:

[rquoter]Castor27
Astros @ Cubs. As usual, no PBP here. If you want PBP, go to another site or get a life. Follow the rules, or I'll ban you or bust a cap in your ass.[/rquoter][rquoter]random astros fan
Cuck the Fubs.[/rquoter][rquoter]another Astros fan
If Z breaks hits another dinger on us, I'm gonna throw up.[/rquoter][rquoter]MadMax
I hate the Cubs.[/rquoter]
etc., etc., etc.

And, why do you think such hate is built up? Because of WGN? Because of Bunny-Hop's anitcs ten years ago?

Because we've seen their losing asses for fifty years.

That simple.

I stated this in the long-standing thread on this topic, but if this is with a balanced schedule like it has been rumoured, then you actually play fewer late night games in the AL West than if the Astros were anywhere in the NL:

AL
EST - 7 teams; CST - 4 teams; MST - 0 teams; PST - 3 teams

So that is only 3 teams whose road games are late during the season.

NL
EST - 7 teams; CST - 3 teams; MST - 1 teams; PST - 3 + 1 teams

So the NL has 3 California teams, plus Colorado is MST, and Arizona does NOT observe Daylight Savings during the summer so they also act like a PST. Meaning you play late road games in total against 5 teams and 4 are really late.

Now if they do NOT make the balanced schedules then Selig must be ousted immediately because there is NO reason to do move the Astros if that does not happen.

You'll find the exact same quotes on a Giants/Pirates game thread, or an Angels/Royals. That's not at all 'hate towards another team' that's simply people getting ramped up for their teams game.

Really? You know what's in people's minds? What am I thinking right now?

Having interacted with some of the folks making those posts, they are clearly not "simply getting ramped up for their teams [sic] game." To argue that Astros fans don't hate the Cubs and Braves is beyond ridiculous.

and after Bartman, I hate their fans too. In fact, I hate the cubs so much it's taking a toll on my opinion of the whole city of Chicago, which would be great except for the people in it.

And the Mother Fing Braves! How I just want to go take a crap right there on home field.

And I'm pretty sold on my next time in St. Louis taking a picture of me in my Astros jersey pissing on the New Busch Stadium.

The Cubs are just a bunch of whiny losers, while the Cardinals and Braves have been our biggest rivals over the last 15 years.

I'm sure plenty of older fans despise the Reds/Dodgers/Mets.

Is that really how I come across? If so Mission Accomplished!

As for the debate. I will agree with you 100% I hate the Cubs and I hate the Cardinals, and I hate the Braves, way more than any other NL team. But I am also old enough to remember hating the Giants, Dodgers and Mets, way more than the Cards and Cubs back in the 80's. So if a move happens I can see myself very quickly deciding that I hate the Rangers, Angels, Random AL team here. It won't take me 25 or 50 years to get there either (with Arlington it will only take about 2.3 seconds).
I'm not saying I support the move, but I am also not so against it I am going to abandon the Astros because they got moved to the AL. Look on the bright side, when we get to the World Series, being in the A.L. will give us a better chance at home field advantage.

Edit: the last line got me thinking. The most appropriate scenario would be the following:
Astros vs. Brewers in the WS. Because of a freak October snow storm everything in Wisconsin has to shut down. Thus giving the Astros home field advantage even though the All Star game was tied, both teams ran out of pitching, and the NL was declared the winner because Bud said so. Then in game 7 the roof opening mechanism breaks ensuring the roof remains closed. The crowd goes wild and the Astros win on a no hitter.

Unfortunately, that is not how it would happen. The snow storm would have Bud forcing all 7 games to be played in Milwaukee and have the Astros staying at the stadium. Bud would only be thinking about the team's safety and not having them drive to and from a hotel. In the meantime, Houston would be getting it's first rain in a decade. Bud would have forced them to keep the roof open during the Series and MMP floods.

No, it doesn't make sense. But it's Bud Selig we're talking about here.
