    You know I don't think they should be able to shorten or cancel seasons! All sports leagues want and get anti-trust exemptions, taxpayer dollars for new arenas/stadiums, and sweetheart leases on those stadiums. As a taxpayer I believe they should have to come to a settlement before training camp starts or the whole matter goes to binding arbitration! Both parties present their side and judge picks winner.

    The fans and taxpayers who support those teams should not suffer for their inability to come to a settlement! If they want to continue to recieve tax money for those fancy new arenas and special exemptions from our governemnt then by god......PLAY BALL!!!!!

    I hope you’re not being serious about Obama having any "power" in this...

    Both the owners and the union asked this Cohen guy to help them out since he’s done a lot of sports negotiations in the past (mediating for the NFL and MLS, represented the MLBPA in their 1995 strike, did work for the NBPA when he was working in his private practice).

    What power do you think Obama has in all this? That he's ordered Cohen into manipulating these people to come into an agreement - even if it's unfair - so that Obama can get his favorite sport? :rolleyes:

    Because private parties are always ethical saints who always make decision in a efficient, well-informed unbiased, just manner and make sure to maximize everyone's interests and well being instead of just their own...
