So what you're saying you did, anyone working at any other bank would have done, considering the info checked out. Ridiculous that you'd be let go because of it.
Exactly. It checked out, nothing out of the ordinary. Real checks with real acct info. Basically what they told me is that I should have called the customer which I didn't feel the need to do because I didn't sense anything alarming that would warrant me to do it.
That's horse ****, I'd be offended if I went to Wells Fargo (where I bank) and tried cashing a check just to have them start making phone calls to verify everything was on the up and up. In fact I would be extremely upset over something like that, to me that's insinuating I'm doing something illegal. If the info clears, that's not on you as a teller, it's on the dumbass who got their **** stolen and didn't report it in enough time to put the account on hold. Secondly it's on the bank itself, not the guy cashing the check. Wow.
I bank at Wells Fargo and have banked there for years. Everytime I cash a check or make a deposit, they ask for my ID as well as my WF check card. I gladly hand it over. Did these guys have an ID that matched the check and associated check card?
Yes. The lady I helped had an ID that was actually her but it had a different name on it. I'm guessing they got good fakes made and she had a second form of ID which we ask for such as debit or credit card. Both matched the name. The one we caught however came in and she looked nothing like the person on the ID plus she walks in wearing sunglasses and walked right past me after I offered to help her. Thats what kind of gave me a sense that something was going on.
My son worked at WF for a couple of years. They seem like a douchy company to work for based on some of his tales. They were expected to make 'sales' by getting folks to apply for credit cards, bank cards, loans, etc. He eventually quit because he was tired of having to sell these products to people who did not need them or should have them.
I agree with your son. I was there for about 3 and a half years as a teller and lead teller. Could not tell you how much I hated it until I finally transferred to Clear Lake last year from Deer Park. I still hated it but I worked with badass people. I should have quit sooner but I was too comfortable plus I had my benefits, 401k and seniority in the branch with about 4 weeks vacation each year. Now that I paid off my car in May I was actually happy to be let go, gave me motivation to go out and find something better for myself. I've actually enjoyed the time off from work. Question though, what do I do with my 401k now?
You should be able to roll it over into a different 401K, perhaps even a Roth IRA. Someone in the WF HR department should be able to give you information on that.
There are not too many jobs out there that actually don't act douchy. If you work at a big company and aren't in upper management of some kind, if you are a peon, they expect you to do a bunch of mindless crap to pull your weight. There is more wrong with jobs in America than just the unemployment rate. There are countless underhanded practices that never get reported because people are afraid to lose their job.
