It is true, I believe by December(within a couple months) they will stand to lose the entire 3 percent or more that they are hoping to gain I believe.

That said, there are issues in other areas too. Rightfully so as well, like I said in my previous post, both sides are in the wrong in areas, but I can't stand to see the players get spoiled and not want to be held accountable. I find it ridiculous that you want guaranteed money regardless of your attitude, work ethic, consistency, performance, the only excuse is injury, outside of that they want to do what they want how they want regardless of anything and it is one thing in principle that the owners are accountable, but more important to me is the the fans and entire competition of the league suffers and gets stuck with this type when they shold be let go like any employee or worker in any profession including the nfl, etc.

Just about as ridiculous as outperforming your contract and not being able to get out of it to get more money (see Aaron Brooks and Carl Landry). If you have a beef with folks getting over on their deal then at least have the beef from both angles. Owners take a risk that a guy can not live up to his contract, just like players take a risk that they can outperform their contract or be shipped to a team they never would have signed with.

FYI, guaranteed contracts are a trade off for allowing player salaries to be capped/maxed. Guys like LeBron are grossly underpaid and could arguably command double what they make if this restriction were removed (Jordan was getting $30M a year in the mid 90's, when revenues weren't at an all-time high, pre internet boom, pre international boom, etc).

The difference is there are a lot more Battiers voting on the deal than Lebrons.....

The mid to lower level players will be the ones that decide what to take....

These super agents who tried to get the players to stand fast, some of them rebuffed by their own clients....

Can't help but wonder if the super agents are getting what they want by getting their big name clients to be their voice/bad guy.

Looks like some players are willing to sacrifice one full year of their prime for this.

Wade will be 30 next year, he's on the other side of the hill of his prime. He of all people should be worried about a canceled season.

both of those guys are on their rookie contracts. That said, so the answer here is shorter contracts, no? This wiill hold both sides accountable, yet thet players are the one who don't want that, they want their guaranteed contracts no matter what. Shorter contracts means like you said if players out perform, they will have a shiny new one waiting with many suiters, if they underperform, they are held accountable. Once again, this is players not agreeing to that because like the poster said above, more often is the players under performing and not being held accountable.

You could have a hard cap and no max player salaries and people like Lebron could make $50MM if they wanted to but the team around them would suffer. Yes Lebron brings in the money but he isn't out there playing by himself. If he deserves $100MM then the players just taking up space deserve even less than they are making now. Also the Cavs gave Lebron a place to showcase his skills and as a result he ends up with tons of outside revenue for endorsements.

I just read his recent article of player not complaining enough and are misunderstood. man Dwade has come along way from his first two years. I used to love him, he was quiet, professional, seemed very humble about all of this. I don't know if it is the lebron connection or just the fame got to him, but he is a d*ck now

Answer yourself: What concessions have the owners made to the players? Name ONE new thing the players will gain from what the owners are current presenting?

Dwade even said he deserves 50m/year . Hard to imagine which league can afford it on the planet.

Recession has impact on everyone but NBA players. Be reasonable

I don't think the owners should be concessing. What don't you understand that the players were living in an unsustainable dream deal developed with MJ and a great economy without taking the current trends into play. The current times also contribute to the majority of the NBA not being able to compete with the La, Boston, Chicago types. People love to bring up Thunder and San antonio, you have to realize they got the lottery and lucky with Having Duncan, Kevin Durant(not just 2 great stars, but stars willing ot play in that market), and you take that away, they are just not successful franchises no matter how well they are run.

Players got spoiled as they weren't held accountable for years. If Allen Iverson says he wants to start and the coach and the team feels hes better on the becnh, he can be a nuisance in practice, ruin team chemistry, and then be dismissed, but you still have to pay the guy 2 million to do nothing. If Jamal tinsley, TJ Ford, Richard Hamilton, Jerome James, Dampiert, Eddy curry decide to be detrimental to the team, not professional, just stop trying...the team just has to pay them, sometimes for years milliosn of dollars with this BS guaranteed contract.

People say look at the stars getting underpaid, I agree, but the majority of the league doesn't bring in revenue to how much they get paid. If you think people should be held accountable, then players who outplay their contracts get a chance at a new bigger one faster and players who don't can get lower contracts than there should be shorter guaranteed contrats...that would align agendas for everyone, but guess who won't consent to that..the players bc most of them know...the NBA is not the most popular sport, but they have the best deal in all of sports leagues in the history and quite simply it is not sustainable...not for owners, but for fans to watch their fans compete, to be stuck with rebuilding for years bc of 5 year guaranteed contracts....no one forces the owners to take these? The market does, they have to spend or they are crucified and irrelevant, and half hte time they spend the players can mail it in and then do what they want...there is no accountability.

In a perfect world, we all want that. But it's not. The players have made their concessions, and I'm sure they will be forced to concede some more. Again, the NBA is a players'-driven league, unlike other leagues. And in the past year, I think they have surpassed the MLB as the #2 sport in America. If you saw the ratings for this years' playoffs for the MLB, you know why. That is why I think this lockout is TERRIBLE for the NBA b/c it will stunt its growth. It was on its way towards the Jordan era's success.

Also, the Bulls have been bad for years before last year. And the Celts were a bottom feeding team for a while before KG/Allen trade came about. And we all know the Knicks' sorry decade of losing prior to this year. Those are 3 of the biggest markets in the NBA.

    That's new???

Yes, employment would be new. In case you're unaware, games have already been cancelled.

You can't be serious. Wade already makes the max and will continue to make more than every other player in the league. He could quit playing right now and live comfortably for the rest of his life. If anything he's screwing over 95% of the league with those comments, if he really said that.

The concessions are not enough, I understand they could be pissed, but what they don't realize is they were living in a dream world and those conditions weren't realistic, just like they aren't in ANY other league, they have the best CBA in all of sports and there is a reason the bubble burst. It is just like the housing market, houses that were selling for 2-4 million, I have seen in georgie in other places sell for half or less or the bank seize it becasue the rightfully disgrunteled owners wouldn't sell for less and kept comparing to the previous purchase price which was just under a different climate and no longer realistic.
The players need to realize basing off their previous CBA is no longer and option.

Last year was also an anomaly, with the big 3 going down, they created a media tornado like never seen before and the NBA had a story line of these 3 superstars and the most hated team in the league and a cinderella in the Dallas Mavericks taking down the 'unbeatable' team who guaranteed 7 championships, that brought in people who don't normally watch and keep up wtih it. That will die down and not be as hot for each coming year, that is just a simple fact.

I am not saying big market teams can not be bad, I am saying with out these regulations, they can continue to overspend since theri markets and have much bigger leashes and recovery than anyone else in the league and it leads to a lack of playing field. Small markets to win have to really strike gold in A Kevin durant or a time duncan which is a once in a decade sort of thing.

The players had it better tahn any other professional sportsman in the NBA. Rafael Nadal and Federer generate more interest/revenue and sell more than Rashard Lewis, Torkuglu, JJ redick, richard jefferson, marvin williams, brendan haywood, nocioni, drew gooden, villaneuava, and the list goes on. But the market is skewed and manipulative so the NBA in its previous allowed people who don't generate to make more income. I am fine with wade getting 15+ and the lebrons and the kobes, but the guys I mentioned, the mid level ,it often does not add up, but the way the market is just to compete you have to keep up with the playing field and its needs to change in a time like this especially for the smaller franchises that unless they strike gold rather than good management as people like to manipulate it(like the rarity of durant or duncan) will become irrelevant

    You completely missed the point.

I was referring to the fact that Wade of all people should be worried about a canceled season because he is on the tail end of his prime and the "superfriends" have yet to prove anything.
