My experience is the opposite. I have been to a number of different churches, and usually the more fundamentalist the church, the more likely they are to be very open in their hatred of other religions and denominations. Baptists, born again Christians and Muslims were especially bad.

I think it has more to do with the individual preachers/priest than any particular denomination.

I had an older co-worker tell me that Muslims were a cult "because they have another person between them and God" and that Christianity didn't count because Jesus and God were one in the same. Both that and your professor's criteria were worthless, because they really just meant to liken them to Jim Jones, Manson and David Koresh.

I wish I could remember what criteria she used. I haven't really even thought about what she said until I saw this this thread. BTW, I was not judging Mormons just stating what a Professor once said.

I expect the percentage of whites is considerably higher than 90. They only began allowing blacks to join very recently.

Yet again, religious bigotry on the campaign trail. last time the big one was Obama being Muslim, and now Romney's feeling the heat about being a mormon and you know the sad part is-

it DOES matter what your religion is. not to me of course.

now i could understand some concern if his religion seriously pressed him to pursue a pro-Mormon agenda in the white house (which i seriously doubt they did, and even more so doubt one Mormon could change the system established primarily by WASP's)

to be honest with you, apart from Paul I think Romney is the sharpest candidate (not saying much, as these republican candidates are kinda weak) he definitely has a better head on his shoulders, unlike perry who i dont think very highly of.

its just sad to see denominations battle out in any faith. its r****ded, get over it. back in the day the Pagan Romans regarded Christians who were originally considered a denomination of Judaism a cult who drank the blood of Christ (wine)and feasted upon mans flesh (bread). we had an evangelical recovering alcoholic (probably recovering from other substances as well) as president who thought that god wanted him to win the presidential election.

bottom line, these big established christian denominations in the US want to keep the status quo of only allowing few denominations of presidents take power. i mean a mormon getting elected to them is pretty F'ing extreme. imagine a muslim, jew, hindu, buddhist... well forget that ****

I am perplexed by the Mormons are not Christians idea. Mormons believe in a lot of things that most mainstream Christians don't, but maybe someone here can give me a textbook definition of a "Christian", so I can understand why I'm not one.

If I Google "What is a Christian?" It comes back 'A person who has received Christian baptism or is a believer in Jesus Christ and his teachings.' Any practicing Mormon would say that his beliefs fall in line with that definition.

So what is it that we Mormons don't believe that is so fundamentally 'Christian'? Is it because we interpret the Bible differently? Is it because we don't drink coffee? TIA.

I believe Mormons are Christians. I do not however believe in the Book of Mormon. I have no problem with anyone of the Mormon faith. Romney's religion has nothing to do why I do not support him. In fact, if Romney wins the primaries, I would gladly vote for him over Obama. I would never vote for anyone who is not a Christian. I could care less if they are Catholic, protestant, or Mormon. I think any leader needs spiritual guidance from God. I would not vote for an atheist or a Muslim.

Islam worships the same god as Christians and Jews - just that they have a different interpretation of that God. That's why they're not Christians. Same thing with Mormons.

When I see the way Christians are treated in Islamic nations, I have a hard time believing they worship the same God(the only God) that I do. The Mormons follow the Bible however they believe that the Book of Mormon is an extra book of the Bible. People of the Islamic faith do not follow the Bible at all.

Your Jesus is significantly different from Christian Jesus.

Muslims believe in the same god of the Jewish and Christian faiths. It's the same guy but their image of what that guy is is different.

You need to see the history of Christians and what they are doing right now, you will understand why Christians are treated that way.

I think the Muslim image of God is COMPLETELY wrong. I really admire the strong faith that most Muslims have I just think they are very misguided. Yes, the origins of all three religions come from the same roots, that being Abraham.
