We now have 1 loss that should have been a win. Ask Eagle fans if they feel sorry for us this year. Seriously, the game sucked. I had no doubt that we'd figure out a way to screw it up even when we got down to the goal line. But even if we lose next week (which we probably will), it's possible to win the next 5 in a row. Seriously. Look at the schedule. On another note, it's probably time to put this thread out of it's misery. LOL.
19/33, 254 yards, 1 TD, no turnovers. Please point out the error. You're moving the argument - again. No one thinks he's elite. And I don't personally believe anyone is "clutch" because it doesn't exist. The parameters were "close and late" situations. Why do you keep making basketball analogies? And what do individual free throw attempts have to do with a football game? What is the possible connection? Stop talking about basketball; there's no greater way to drive me away.
I mostly try and avoid the game thread - much too overwhelming. But possibly lost in all the "SCHAUB SUCKS!!!" maddness was this post, from an avowed Raider fan:
Until he proves. Otherwise. Matt Schaub is the t-mac of the Texans. Get enough stats to Not Be The Problem. But doesn't get it done. I hereby dub him T-Matt. Rocket River
I think most people have come to terms with the head coaching position. They know McNair will do all he can to keep his pet on the sidelines...they're after Schaulb now. T-mac went to the playoffs so there goes your analogy.
I stand corrected. No error in this loss, although I see a coach trying to score another TD and seal the game with 1st and goal with an elite QB. There are posts in this thread saying Matt is elite. And I haven't moved jack and I'll prove it. My initial comment in this thread: Then I requested your list: No, I didn't identify winning teams here. However, that was clearly clarified later. I posed this question to you before you even posted the list: My response after you posted the list: Again, please stop typing this garbage about me moving the argument. You simply are impressed with stepping up against losing squads, and I'm more unimpressed by the bad track record against the winning squads. If my fear is that this dude will make a huge blunder instead of a big play when we are facing a good team then pointing to instances against poor teams does nothing to rebut that fear, especially not when most of the instances on the list against good team do include some huge blunder. Because we are having an argument over whether someone is clutch or not and you seem to think that a player can't be a nut up based on a crucial mistake if he has balled in earlier parts of the game or if others have messed up. This is a basketball board, named "Clutchfans", so it's quite appropriate to use basketball analogies to define what clutch is. Feel like answering the question now? It's the same logic but a different sport. Did Karla Malone blow that game or not?
The meltdown about Schaub is kind of comical. He had a bad game yesterday, yes. He's a good QB but just not a guy that you can expect to drop back 51 times and win you the game. You can win with the guy but it has to be part of a balanced attack. Everyone will be better off if we stop expecting him to be a star. The odds are against us winning a Super Bowl without a "great" QB, but it's not like those are easy to find. If the Broncos can make it to a conference championship with Jake Plummer, we can get to a Super Bowl with Schaub (pending a lot of other things going right). The right decision yesterday would have been to throw the ball away and run another play. He was in no-man's-land. But give credit to the Raiders defense for dominating the line of scrimmage the whole game. The fact that we even had a chance to win was remarkable (and a testament to our defense). Their d-line absolutely manhandled us.
That's the book on Schaub all stats , no intangibles. Furthermore, Schaub's throws were all over the place yesterday. I know Vickers should of caught that ball, but Schaub had no pressure and threw the ball behind Vickers.
Please... the only way he could have made it easier for Vickers is if he had gone there and handed it to him. And I guess Dreesen dropped the ball because it was too hard as it hit him right in the chest/hands... Schaub has his limitations, but blaming him for everything (especially the above drop) is ridiculous.
Really? Check yesterday's New England game and get back to me. Exactly. And I provided 18 examples where, far more often than not, Schaub made winning plays. And then the target started moving, "No, I meant against winning teams." "No, no - they have to actually win the game." "No, no, no - he can't make previous errors prior to the closing moments (though he can make all the great plays he wants prior to the closing moments because I've arbitrarily decided those don't count..." As a body of work, he has come through. The team hasn’t always – but he has. You can only ask your QB to do so much. At some point, you have to widen your focus enough to concede it’s a team game. I'm impressed with the fact that, far more often than not, if the team needs him to make a play in a close and late sitaution, he does. Even against good teams. Again, go back through the list of your approved games and tell me which games he absolutely failed to make winning plays. I count 2. Of 10. There is no football equivalent to shooting FTs and I have no idea what game you’re even talking about, nor do I care. Why don't you dig up the performances of other QBs in "close and late" situations and tell me how they compare - seems a much better use of our time than some 14-year old free throws. We might be on a basketball board - but we're not discussing basketball.
There is absolutely no excuse for him dropping that ball even if the ball was very, very slightly behind him.
Accurate throws lead to first downs. First downs lead to TDs or fgs. Considering the margin of victory we would of won that game just on fgs alone if not by TDs. Hard for WRs to catch balls and aimed at their feet or 10 feet in the air and they get yards after the catch.
You're aware Rackers missed a FG yesterday, right? From 41 yards? So they could have been playing for a game-winning FG at the end... Good night. I'm not a moral victory kind of guy - but you'd think we lost by 30. He threw for 400 yards, including passes of 60, 50+ and 40+ yards. I mean... if you want to argue he made critical mistakes, OK. But jeez... let's not go overboard in our hatred and anger.
Schaub is firmly in the Tier II of QB's. There's only a handful of guys in Tier I: Tier I Manning Brady Rodgers Roethlisberger Tier II Eli Manning Rivers Flacco Romo Ryan Schaub Vick Tier III Bradford Cutler Fitzpatrick Freeman Newton Stafford Sanchez Tier IV Cassell Kolb Campbell McCoy McNabb Orton Alex Smith
Actually. . . TMAC came to a playoff team a team with a 1st round exit . . .and never elevated them beyond it Schaub came to a team with not playoffs and has never elevated them beyond that status they both made states they both make the regular seasons a bit more interesting but the net results of each team has been the same . . . Schaub is a capable game manager. Someone on the Radio called him Schaubiak! LOL That one had me laughing. The reason I brought up Kolb was What if . . the great QB Coach Kubiak had him for the last 4 yrs what would be now? Rocket River
I look at your Tier III QBs Bradford Cutler Fitzpatrick Freeman Newton Stafford Sanchez Which ones do you think . . their teams would trade their QB for Schuab? I don't think Carolina would . . not sure about detroit Chicago might . . Buffalo wouldn't at this point bradford . . . iffy . . . Jets might trade for Sanchez . . .and Freeman . . hhhmmm Rocket River
Top 5 offense my ass. Yardage doesn't mean squat if you can't score points. Its all about points per game. Our offense starts and ends with AJ. Its a shame we couldn't beat the Raiders without him at home.
1. His *TEAM* is terrible. . is that not what you say whenever someone blames Schaub for anything??? 2. Coming out of College . . . Alot of folx felt he had the tools. Him not being here is all Kubiak . .and his ridiculous arrogance that he could do something with David Carr. I thought Kubiak was the QB Guru. I think Schaub needs competition This organization does NOT beleive in QB competition they pick a guy . . and they live and die with him Anyone behind him has ZERO shot of the starter job no matter what .. .so if a QB of some note and skill were to come here. . they would have no shot at the job Schaub needs to be pushed i think . . Rocket River
