I needed this one, team needed it. Thought for sure they were going to choke it all away at the end and they nearly did.

You guys are way too hard on Matt Schaub, the Raiders put some big shots on him and he found a way to get them down the field at the end, just had nowhere to go with that final pass once the safety shot up at him.

All he could have really done after he took off like that was try and get off a better lob to put Jones in position to make a miracle grab, but he had no time to get off a pass like that with Branch closing on him fast.

The defense just won on that play.

I have a lot of respect for Matt Schaub.

When we spiked the ball, I don't think anyone anywhere thought we'd only get one play off.

    Awful situational awareness by Schaub.

Just saw a replay of the last play and Walter was open only after Schaub started to scramble. Don't know why he was looking Jacoby's way.

If only the so-called Texans fans could see this. No AJ and he left it all out there on the field. Ya he could have thrown the ball away for another play but it's not his fault we lost crucial timeouts. Also, the play-call could have been much better. The play Donny illustrated was a better idea.

I swear to god, I laugh my head off every time I see an action shot of this guy.

How many tipped balls were there yesterday? 6-7? Maybe more?

Okay, so I missed the game (heard it on radio) and just watched the last play about 100 times. Here's what I see:

    - There is absolutely NO WAY Schaub could have run that ball in. Period. At least three defenders were keyed in on him and running his way. If he was lucky, he'd be stopped at the 1, but more likely the 2 yd line. Schaub just isn't very fast on his feet, nor is he going to win a head-to-head shoving match to get in the endzone.

    - The coverage by the Raiders was pretty good. Walter was indeed open, but only after Schaub tucked it and ran.

    - Schaub was so keyed into Jacoby at the onset of that play, even I knew he was going to throw it his way.

    - The pocket collapsed, but Schaub did NOT have to run that ball. He could have just stepped up a yard or so and tossed it out of the endzone if necessary. Time would still be left on the clock and you could take another crack at it on the next play.

So I don't fault him for not running it in. I do, however, fault him for poor execution of his reads and poor decision making in the most crucial moment of the game. Doesn't mean he's not good, doesn't mean he should be replaced. But I can't blame that play, and thus the loss of the game, on anyone but him.

A great QB would go through his reads, see everyone covered, and toss it out of the back of the endzone. A great QB would make decisions knowing his physical limitations (for example, lack of speed). A great QB would manage the clock better than that.

Problem is, Schaub is only a good QB.

Buck up little campers, the Season is about winning your division and getting to the playoffs. The only thing that really matters is beating Tennessee. And, look at the schedule, 12-4 is still doable.

So I'm saying there's still a chance; even if you just give them a loss next week.

 the sky isn't falling on your end? Good to see that there is still sanity left. We're still winning the division and it's all about making the playoffs. Once there anything goes.

Schaub was looking to the right side initially. ONce he left the pocket he sort of had to key on JJ because he was right there.

I think schaub did the right thing by leaving the pocket...ideally that can pull a secondary member to him, and it did as the safety came running up. Unfortunately, that didnt leave a WR open

Game sucked, but geeze....not like it was a playoff game or anything. Vickers doesn't drop that easy TD pass and we would probably be 4-1 right now.

The Raiders were playing out of their minds yesterday, for obvious reasons. We were missing our best offensive player and our best defensive player. It was a ****ty loss, no doubt....but the season isn't over.

This was really the first loss snapped from the jaws of victory all season. We're usually up to 2 or 3 by this point. :)

Worst thing about yesterday was Mario going down. I'm more concerned about that than I am about our record or our ability to win the division.

I had a thought throughout the game, and I haven't seen it posted. The Texans have one of the best offensive lines in the NFL. There's no question about that. They're fast and athletic, and they are the best at getting down field, by far. There's no tackle in the NFL better at getting out and hitting an outside linebacker than Eric Winston. Also, they handle speed rushers really well. Duane Brown did a number on Dwight Freeney week one, and handled him better than anyone else has. All that being said, they're small, and not all that strong. So, when the Raiders send out 650 pounds of tackles, they can't handle them as well. That's why they were able to collapse the pocket, and that's why they were able to tip so many passes. I don't have a problem with that. Honestly, if I'm building a team, that's how I want to build an O-line. But you need to recognize that weakness, and scheme for it.

You underestimate our ability to keep it close. Texans will somehow find a way to stay in the game in the closing minutes only to somehow blow it in the end.

It is true, the texans have fits with a team that has a lot of power on the DL, especially DT.

It's just hard to scheme against getting flat out overpowered, especially in pass protection. Sure you can keep a TE and/or the RB in to help block, but that won't help with the DL getting penetration and then batting down a ball.

You can send more runs outside, and you can move the pocket more on pass plays.

Nah we need a reality check.... We think we're so close , and just cant get over the hump... Well this azz-whippin gonna expose the real problem, toughness and grit.... And its gonna put some urgency in Kubiak's azz... We gonna run off 5 straight wins after Baltimore mauls us.... So basically Im cool with it....

What would Brady, Rodgers, or Manning done in that situation? The same thing Schaub did?

that's like asking what would have Michael Jordan with the ball at the top of the key vs what yao ming in the same place.

Brady would have recognized that Walter was open back across the field and thrown it to him. Rodgers would have run it in. Manning would have thrown it out of the back of the end zone early, and had one more play. Schaub isn't as good as those guys. He's good, I like him, but he's not elite.
