Why can't credit be given to the D line of the raiders. They were 6'7 monsters out there. Even people that say Le schaub sucks, have to admit that his completion % yesterday was one of the worst in his career; yet he recovered from that. This just in, when you're rushed like that, you're going to be prone to mistakes. Yes, even vick or ben or peyton. What texans have to do is just win the next one. 10-6 and 11-5 is still going to happen.
how did he recover from that? this is where we are as houston fans, right? coming up "soooo close" is recovering.
Schaub had a bad game... But anyone who is throwing to Jacoby Jones is going to have a bad game ha. If Big Ben can win a Superbowl Schaub can. Without AJ getting double teamed in the back the D was able to keep foster in check and pretty much allow Jones to be open... Since Jones is a joke. It is just one bad game Schaub isn't elite but he's worlds better than Flacco. Texans will beat the Ravens next week 24-10 next week.
You don't think he made plays to get them in position to score? he can't catch the ball too. Vickers had to convert on that play. My point has always been and continues to be.. it's a team game. Don't get why the blame goes on one guy, but that's the nature of being the QB.
To be fair - it started with Dressen's drop that would have converted a 3rd down in Oakland territory. But yes - very bad stretch. (BTW, 3 of those 6 were JJ targets. Just sayin'.) Other than the Dressen drop, I only remember one other throw - an out to JJ where he lazily ran his route and didn't create space. I would just counter it's a tough day to pin on Schaub - no AJ, no running game, a relentless pass rush... I don't agree with meh - but I don't think we should pretend it was an optimum day in which he just underperformed. He was under attack. They had 60- and 41-yard receptions in the second half. One led to a missed a Rackers' FG. Yeah, 7 - wow. Where that heckfire did that come from? That's never been a problem before... I'd break out the ladders, STAT!! But the underthrows, etc., he was rushed all day, man. Some on him, obviously - but the Raiders were in his face constantly. This is where I think fans are too hyper-focused on their own team - are we going to give the Raiders *any* credit? They played extremely well defensively: they rushed the passer effectively; were well-disciplined; shut down an elite back; took full-advantage of Johnson being out and made adjustments to effectively take OD out of the game, too, after his big first half. And we're asking Schaub to overcome *all* of that and not cutting him any slack? Especially when we have some certifiable moments where teammates let him down in crucial moments? And they *still* had a chance to win on the final play.
i said at least 3 times in this thread that i don't believe schaub is the only reason they lost...strawman argument. i do believe he's a big part of why they lost, though. ric, as i said, it doesn't surprise me we see the game differently.
So, how many games are we going to sit idly by and not talk about Kubiak having his team come out and play like absolute dog vomit after halftime?
play calling was particularly uninspiring...but of course we were playing the 2011 Raiders. so what can you do, really? i mean..those guys were stopping everyone coming in to that game.
The challenge killed me - wasted a valuable TO for a call that was *never* going to be overturned. Thought I'd throw that in there. I think it's a matter of teams adjusting better to the Texans. Keep in mind, he hasn't Foster *and* AJ for any second half this entire season. When teams can shut one thing down, and you can't turn to your 1A option... it makes things more difficult to counter the adjustments. (I'm guessing.....)
Well, MM - they are 3-2 with their two losses coming against teams that are a combined 8-2. And their wins now include two pretty impressive ones against us and Jets. Wouldn't shock me at all to see them win that division. Again, let's give the opponent a little credit....
You know what killed me even more about the challenge? The fact that we kicked a FG anyway. I can understand challenging if you're going to have to punt, but if you trust Rackers, why not kick it anyway? And missing players is no excuse, he's consistently came from halftime with his team unable to play in the 3rd quarter. The number of 3 and outs was embarrassing. That is a pattern that has developed throughout Kubiak's tenure here that reaches farther back than Arian or AJ's injuries.
Again, I'm not narrowing anything so please stop saying this. You provided a list that showed comebacks against losing teams and mostly mistakes against winning ones. My initial rebuttal to that list was "all those teams that he was clutch against were bad, and do you not see the mistakes against the winning teams.....clutch isn't a term used for beating scrubs.....I don't feel comfy with him against good teams in those situations". So again, please stop saying this. I don't need you to be perfect. But I would like to have faith instead of fear when we are facing good opponents and you need to make plays. I would like to be surprised if you make some back-breaking mistake instead of saying "well he did it again". NO ONE WAS SHOCKED THAT HE THREW THAT PICK YESTERDAY. Go through the list and almost every instance of facing a good team didn't work so well for Matt. If the instances of stepping it up against bad teams makes you overlook constantly blowing it against good ones then more power to you, but asking him to not constantly blow it against those teams isn't asking for perfection. As I stated in my Dwight Howard example, when folks bash him for being offensively limited they are talking about the instances where he actually has to display some skill against dudes who can defend and can't just easily overpower someone. Not once have I pinned an entire loss on him. I note the backbreaking mistakes made during losses, and how this leads me to not have confidence in him in those situations. He was error free in the Jet's game??? This is in response to you and others noting that he is elite or clutch. How can you be elite or clutch when you consistently can't get it done against winning teams? When have we ever used clutch to identify someone that struggles against the top competition? And this is where I disagree. Simple question. In Game 1 of the 97 NBA Finals, after Karla Malone missed those freebies, did you say he nutted up or did you point to all the mistakes everyone else made as well and say the team nutted up?
This is on the players more than the coaching staff... Kevin Walters is a matchup problem for most corners because he's big, physical, and has the best set of hands.. He gets single coverage almost every play but Schaub rarely throws his way... Schaub needs to trust his recievers more and stop gettin scared when the blitz shows.....
Huh?? Do you realize who Brady's skill players have been for the past 2 seasons (this one and last)? As much as I hate Manning, he had no Foster or Dre Johnson last year either.
Just all around a terrible decision. I'm also not happy with two punts inside Raider territory. I'd like to see him challenge They didn't play terribly in the 3Q yesterday. Three drives total - one ended at the Oakland 23 (missed FG); the other the Oakland 36 (drop by Dressen; bad challenge; FG). I think games ebb and flow - teams make adjustments constantly. Given that they pick it back up in the 4Q, he seems to make the necessary adjustments to keep us in games.
Your snark is entering critical mass, Max. Probably time to go grab a cup of coffee or something. We can't repel sarcasm of that magnitude.
Talk about a strawman, MM... Not a single person is making anything close to any of these arguments; this is nothing more than a "I'm taking my ball and going home" post. Oakland is a good team and it's OK to credit them with playing well. It's not always 100% *our* fault; the opponent sometimes has a say in the outcome.
