I actually think those 10 things from "thinkprogress" are pretty lame. I was expecting more substantive or deeply scary things. Those are all going to be relative molehills with the voting public. Can you imagine average voting Joe with a Taiwan issue? Come on.
This election will NOT be about foreign policy though, and even though Obama knew more than Palin about maps, he didn't have any real foreign policy experience (I mean, other than being Kenyan and muslim and all that.)
Some of the anti-Muslim stuff may bite Cain in the ass when it comes to the general election, even if they don't hurt him in the Republican primary. Not that the Muslim vote will decide the election, but I think a good number of ethnic/recent immigrant communities probably don't like hearing anything xenophobic-sounding. Also, while I don't think the average voter cares about, or even has much knowledge about the Taiwan situation, what might hurt Cain is a general lack of preparation on certain specific issues. People don't expect every candidate to have foreign policy experience (Presidents Obama, GWB, and Clinton are among those who didn't have such experience going in), but you at least should sound like you spend some time studying this stuff. Does Cain (who is not a dumb guy) even take this thing seriously enough to spend the time? I mean, one thing that's been reported about Cain is that he's not even scheduled to spend that much time in the early primary states since he'll be on his book tour. Most people might not care, but if he says something at a general election debate(to the extent foreign policy mattered in recent elections, I think it's been mostly in the general election, and not in the primaries) that is clearly false, there might be an "unprepared/unserious about Presidency" memes that hurt his chances.
^ Cain clearly has no idea what he's talking about when it comes to anything foreign policy related. I respect him as a business man, but he just truly isn't qualified to be the leader of our country. It would be a disaster
LOL so why don't you tell me then what impresses you about his economic acumen, then, since you're the one who's impressed by it. I look forward to a frank and fulsome discussion, even if you don't happen to....have any facts to back this up.
i have to disagree with the alan keyes references. what made keyes unique and a jerk is that he went out of the way to talk about race issues from the conservative standpoint. he went out of his way to be critical of the black community, while cain just talks conservative issues in general
I don't know if he was being serious about making the Iraq pay us back for the war, but it made me laugh. I hope he wasn't being serious..probably was.
I'll give him credit for playing to his crowd. Now all he needs to do is reveal that he has slaves and he would likely clinch the nomination.
Random thought: Which of the following would be the more damaging revelation for Cain? (a) Herman Cain had sex with Sarah Palin. (b) Herman Cain had sex with Glen Rice.
I can't figure out why anyone in Texas would be interested in that "9-9-9" mumbo jumbo. A 9% sales tax? Texas, Forida, and a few other states don't have a state income tax (which I enjoy, and which may be unfair in a lot of ways)), and if you add 9% to the 8.25% sales tax we have in Austin, for example, that's a 17.25% sales tax on damn near everything, which is how our sales tax is now. Add to that a HAMMER of a regressive tax on the lower income folks in this land, who already pay little in income tax, but far more in sales tax than they should be paying, in my opinion, and you are hammering Blacks and Latinos, who make up an inordinate percentage of lower income folks. How fair is that? Cain's yammering about it is bull**** that would be a blessing for a multimillionaire like him. Funny how Republican "reforms" always end up favoring the rich, and Cain is certainly that.
