Christians, with an origin story not long ago or remote enough to seem beyond reproach. If they're a cult, than they're literally the best case scenario: they built a state from scratch and showed that they could be as savage and murderous as their persecutors.
I always find it strange when Christians label Mormon beliefs as odd or crazy. Mormon theology doesn't seem any weirder than any other religion's beliefs (for example any of the miraculous feats of Jesus).
No, but giving a cultural and political identity to an entire continent for two millenia makes it harder for people to want to point it out.
I've played ball vs mormons back in the day. Every single one of them can hit the jumper. They hit the mid range, they hit long 3s, all they do is hit jumpers, and it pissed me off.
As a practicing Mormon, I choose to be most offended by the association with the Utah Jazz. Kinda curious about what caused this thread. The church presents a very unique set of beliefs and backstories that are quite different than other Christian faiths. This draws the ire of a lot of Evangelicals which piles on top of the interactions religious people already have with their more ignorant counterparts and with combative atheists. That's why people have such a widespread idea that Mormons are crazy. You'll find that they're just average people who found some reason to believe in it. Aint that big of a deal. I definitely know better than to get tangled up in a D&D discussion about my own faith, so good luck with all of the wild half-truths. It will run the course of any fine message board topic, I'm sure. PS back when the Rockets played the Jazz I went to every home game in both series; I wasn't a fan of "F*** the Mormons" or "Mormons suck" chants. I get it - we need something to criticize Utah for and the state is bland and worthless otherwise. But there are thousands of Mormons in Houston.
Ah, I see. Well, these kinds of religious politics are one of the main reasons I really despise the modern GOP. It's a shame that religion is one of the forefront topics in every primary. I hope nobody fools themselves into thinking Mormons unilaterally support Romney. I live in Salt Lake City right now for work and there is a huge Obama fan-base here. Personally, I wear Ron Paul shirts around as much as possible. Anyway... ... Doesn't even really make sense.
They think Native Americans are ancient Jews. The Book of Mormon attests the existence of ancient advanced civilizations here in the Americas which, to this day, no archeological proof of has been found even though the Church of Latter Day Saints owns property they claim are the sites of several events and places in their scripture.
Evangelical's love to talk **** about other religions. As some of you may know, I get paid to play music at a Southern Baptist church. I wouldn't be there if they didn't pay me. I had never heard Christians talk crap about other Christians until I went there. They love to denounce "liberal" denominations. They're not fond of Catholics. They seem obsessed with Mormons because it seems to be the subject of their Wednesday night series at least 3 times a year. They refuse to acknowledge any connection between Christianity and Islam. It's bizarre. Anyway, I found this quote by Robert Jeffress interesting: It's odd the way he phrases it because it sound like he's saying Christians aren't good, moral people even though I'm sure he didn't mean it that way. To be sure, some Christians are awful people and don't reflect the teachings they claim to follow. So to answer his question, yes. Yes, as a Christian, I would rather support a good, moral person rather than someone who professes to be Christian but really is just an immoral douchebag.
Again that is no more absurd to me than anything in the bible or old testament. Jesus came back from the dead according the Christians. No proof of a person rising from the dead exists either. (Insert zombie picture here). I guess there is some truth to what pouhe says about Christianity coming off as more reasonable since it has had more influence (apologies if I am misinterpreting what you wrote, pouhe).

Christianity is more reasonable because it is older, so it can be viewed as parable, which is completely unfair...
Such as? That there is no proof makes it wrong is not my point. I make an argument that it's wrong because there should be proof of the Mormons' claim about ancient civilizations in the same manner we have archeological evidence of Egyptians, Babylonians, etc. Professional archeologists have said it's impossible for civilizations of the magnitude described in the Book of Mormon to not leave a trace of themselves behind.
