mattmosley Matt Mosley I couldn't be happier for TCU to join the Big 12. Mizzou will likely stay based on what I'm hearing today. Louisville was waiting in wings. ralphDrussoAP Ralph D. Russo So missouri, you sure you want to leave?
So the Big XII lost Nebraska, Colorado and A&M and people think this was a win for UT? I think a better description would be that they got greedy, almost lost everything, but managed to hang on and come out of this not nearly as damaged as they could have. They didn't win, they just dodged a bullet. They survived.
Well Dodds' job is to promote and grow the UT athletics brand, it's not to consider the feelings of other schools. In my opinion, I have no problems with Dodds' practices. I understand they are controversial and divisive, but UT is the #1 revenue producing school in the nation and you can't argue against the money. After all, A&M left to increase the visibility of their student-athletes, it has nothing to do with what UT is doing amirite?
Your worth is greatly tied to your conference. Your conference was severely damaged. You gained the ability to air conference games on LHN, but lost 3 very valuable programs in the process. Bad trade long term trade, IMO.
And I guess I should mention, A&M and to a lesser extent Nebraska and Colorado leaving the Big12 is THEIR loss. They're the ones who throw away their rivalries, traditions and regional advantages. They're the ones who are putting more of a strain on their students and travel plans. So if they want to leave it's on them, UT doesn't have to do any favors for them. But my opinion is severely biased of course.
I don't think the University of Texas gives one flying fudge that they lost 3 programs...they'd trade in more to keep LHN, and I can't blame them. The money that brings in for the entire university, not even considering the athletic department, is amazing. They have the ability to create a nearly unrivaled national brand with ESPN paying them to do it; all while still earning conference media dollars, as well! So they lost games in Boulder, College Station and Lincoln...who cares??
So based on this post, your assertion is that over time UT's worth and growth will begin to diminish? Because I don't buy it. I have a feeling if UH got an invite to the Big12, you would change your tune.
Severely biased, but also severely uninformed as well. A&M, Nebraska, and Colorado are each in a better situation now all around. More money, more equity, more stability, more institutional control, better exposure, and on and on. The only thing they lost is "tradition", which is pretty much worth only what you want it to be worth.
Change my tune about what? About the Big 12 suffering? UT's growth will slow down, IMO, if the Big 12 suffers. They're going to be *fine* no matter what, but that doesn't mean they couldn't be *more than just fine*.
PeteThamelNYT Pete Thamel by richardjustice The Big 12 would like Missouri to be No. 10. "It looks promising right now." If not, its moved on to Louisville.
Removing NU, A&M, CU (and Mizz) and adding TCU and Louisville... I can't see how that is a net gain for the Big 12 in any way.
I was about to type the same thing but you are so much better with written words than I am. There is only one school Texas and their fans care about. Its OU. Fortunately for Texas, OU isn't going anywhere without Texas because we bring the money. The only scenario that would really hurt Texas is if OU got really pissed and decided to go the SEC without us. However, Oklahoma isn't as short sighted as ATM.
ChipBrownOB Chip Brown As Big East destabilizes, sources tell Orangebloods.com Texas is pushing for Notre Dame to move its "other"sports to B12. ChipBrownOB Chip Brown The debate in the B12 is whether to stay at 10 or grow to 12. Some want to grow to 12 by grabbing Louisville and West Virginia.
apparently they're quite demanding...heard one reporter say they were like a diva. what they want of tier 3 rights is more than UT asked for, even.
More equity, more stability - I buy More money - debatable, you are not privy to financial statements and are working on $ figures of the past. You also need to factor in the increased travel costs for all sports and also exit fees better exposure - highly debatable better institutional control - not sure what this even means? Tradition should be very important to a schools like Nebraska and A&M, or atleast I would think so. Tradition is what makes college football, college football. Very weak arguments overall IMO, it's nothing new; they're the same things NU, CU, and A&M have been saying all along for their move and I still think its a bad idea.
