everything that i mentioned applies to all teams, not just the rockets. chuck hayes can start for ANY team that does not have BOTH a superior center AND forward in the starting line up. most teams have one or the other, but not both.
That is what you think; an opinion. Truth is, most teams probably wouldn't start Hayes no matter how good he is at D as long as they have a normal sized big with decent skills. The stigma associated with undersized bigs, along with the actual physical disadvantages of being so short, is simply too much of an obstacle for FO's and coaches to consider otherwise.
not too much for both jvg and adelman. both of whom said they expected him to be cut every year but ended up being a major contributor every year. hayes is a combo pf/c, his value is much higher than you are realizing.
Hayes is a good 1 on 1 defender of power forwards. That's it. He has a solid passing game, but he doesn't offer a threat to opposing wings that can blow by our weak perimeter defenders. Until we find that guy, or more specifically, the guy who can mask up Kevin Martin's weak D, then we don't have a quality starting C. Hayes is a great hustle guy and seems to have one of the most down to earth personalities on the team. By all accounts, a tremendous asset to have on the bench - but a starter? Come on.
You are contradicting yourself. It says more towards our FO that we DO try to replace him every year. I agree that his value is higher than it is, but it is not starter worthy. If he was starter worthy or actually of "high" value, we would NOT be expecting him to be cut or demoted every year. In fact, it is BECAUSE he is not valued at all near what you would like to seem him as, that we are trying to replace him. We will probably always disagree with this, so I am going to say this one last time and leave it as that; Hayes would not be able to start on most NBA teams that are not the Rockets as most teams and coaches will forgo him starting if they have other bigs that are even somewhat talented.
Re-sign the Chuckwagon but start him at PF and trade Scola and some other players in a package for a Center. Lowry/Dragic Martin/Lee Morris/Budinger/Williams Hayes/Patterson/D-Mo FA/Trade Center/Hill
it's not a contradiction - they expected him to be cut because of his size yet he ends up being a contributor because of his skill. as for replacements - also a non-issue, since morey is always actively trying to replace everybody.
The Rockets players on here are so overvalued...no one is untouchable or all that important when you team wins 43 or 44 games. No one. And sometimes you have to force a coach to get rid of his security blanket to play younger players, look at Shane, once he was traded CBud stepped up and the team was MILES better without Shane and with CBud starting. Coaches, by nature, are risk averse, sometimes it is the front offices job to remove those security blankets for the good of the future of the franchise. Chuck is such a blanket. DD
They certainly did play better without an injured Brooks, but they were about the same as they were the year before with a healthy Brooks. DD
lowry's improvement and leadership offset the absence of shane. brooks was a net minus last year. haven't you been schooled on that topic enough yet? hayes is not a net minus. thabeet is not going to offset the loss of chuck. you are wrong, wrong, and wrong. as usual.
I am just so far ahead of the curve that average Joes like you can't understand, eventually over time, you will come around though. Lowry is a very nice player - overated on this board, but a good player nonetheless. Brooks is too, when healthy (and that includes mentally too). They are completely different but you can win games with either of them as your starting PG. Re: Chuck Hayes - If he is a starter on your team, your team is going nowhere, he is a very smart basketball player who is height and athletically challenged, he also is only a threat on one end of the floor. He is great if you want to bring him off the bench to disrupt a PF that is having his way, a great change of pace defender, but having to rely on him all year as a starter = epic failure on the organizations part of not getting a quality starting player to start over him. Chuck is a nice player but is hardly unreplaceable....in fact he is very replaceable - sure the team would change, but with Chuck starting you are not winning anyway.....well anything of consequence. DD
if you have michael jordan, scottie pippen, and chuck hayes in your starting lineup, your team is going nowhere? if you have lebron james, dwyane wade, and chuck hayes in your starting lineup, your team is going nowhere? if you have dwight howard, chris paul, and chuck hayes in your starting lineup, your team is going nowhere?
None of those guys started a 6'6" center, their versions of Chuck Hayes would be coming off the bench...... DD
Horace Grant and Dennis Rodman - both average sized PFs. Udonis Haslem was their guy also, not short like Hayes. If they get together, they will not be starting a 6'6"(maybe) center or PF. DD
Why do you want to think for him? Players choose their teams for a lot of reasons. Winning a championship is only one of many. Why can't a smart guy like Hayes find the satisfaction of mentoring younger players instead of chasing a ring? Besides, nobody really cares if a role player wins a ring. Do people talk about how many championships Horry and Kerr won? And there is no guarantee if you can win with a contender like Miami. You might get traded before they could win it all. People kept saying Adelman at his age would want to coach a contender and not a rebuilding team. Look what happened. I agree with people who pointed out that developing young players and keeping Hayes are not mutually exclusive.
Could this be moved to a Chuck Hayes Free Agency GARM thread? It's got squat to do with the actual thread topic.
I don't think anyone here is actually talking about getting rid of Hayes, just that he cannot be starting. As far as trading goes, I highly doubt we will ever get anything back for trading him. It will be ideal for us to sign him on as a defensive specialist that comes off the bench.
way to miss the point. i'm not asking who their pf/c's were. i'm asking if they would be "going nowhere" with chuck hayes starting or not. you completely dodged the question.
What point? Do we have Jordan, Pippen, CP3, Howard, Lebron or Wade? Of course not......so Chuck is even less valuable to our team. DD
