Depends on how you define the tide. I think Android phones have been technologically superior in many ways for a while now (4G, as an example). And they already are growing market share much faster than Apple, thanks in part to Sprint/T-Mobile access, and in part to the fact there are so many more options there. But customization and high-end features only appeal to a portion of the population. Most people like simple & straightforward, good battery life, etc - the whole "it just works" thing. They don't want all the other things Android allows. In that particular market, iPhone still seems to have a huge edge.
Hehe, I'm so excited for this phone. I will be buying one on launch day. I'm liking the curve design, alot.
as a developer, do you get discounts? i remember nexus one and nexus s had developer discount also, how much do you expect this thing to be at launch off contract?
I did on the original N1 after it become only available to developers but it wasn't much. When the "S" came out, I was doing mainly underground stuff on XDA and had a little thing going on with my HTC phones so I didn't really care to know lol I expect it to be around $579 sadly lol. I'm purchasing this device off contract as well, but I've been saving for it for about 3 months. I don't think anyone will be disappointed with this phone, and if you're an iPhone user and want to cheat on your phone, this is the phone to cheat with lol. If there is a developer discount this time around, I'll let you guys now. It's only $25 for the dev account. Unlike the $99 i paid for my Apple Developer account, which I pretty much abandoned as I suck with xcode and aren't afraid to admit it.
I think it will have a nice feel in my hand. I may be wrong, I guess it's also because I've never had a device like that. Time will tell. I'm buying this phone, NO MATTER WHAT. The only thing that could possibly change my mind is that HTC Vigor I played with this weekend in Austin. That phone is just... WOW.
Yes sir. It sure did, now it could change as it was a dev device but it was just woww. It looks similar to the HTC sensation, and had beats by Dre integration
LOL...Another week, ANOTHER ANDROID PHONE. The iphone will still out sell this 10 to 1. HTC, Samsung, etc.. STILL think bigger the screen, the better. Most people don't want mini-tablet in there pocket. Another buggy Android point release....ice cream sandwich....they still haven't gotten the bugs out of Gingerbread..lol.
Android isn't that buggy as people make it out to seem, really. Then again, I can't expect people to side with a developer point of view on a basketball forum. Yeah, it might outsell it, and it's not necessarily a device for everyone. I've said it before, and I will say it again , If you're not that tech savvy, or if you don't have a care for specs and getting the most out of your hardware, Android is NOT for you, and I highly recommend just getting an iPhone. Most importantly, Android is open sourced for the most part. You are free to do alot more on your Android device than other platforms. Alot of people just buy iPhones for brand appeal to be honest, besides the fact that they are also simplistic to use, and just work. (That's an opinion for those who want to argue)
ill just ignore the previous poster. why did google go with samsung for the past 2 nexus iterations? in terms of hardware isn't htc better? or am i just a htc fanboy?
Google really liked the Hummingbird processor while creating the Nexus S. As for why Samsung got it again? I honestly don't know. Samsung makes great screens, and have nice hardware, that I can say for sure
Lol at this jelly kid. I rarely run into any quirks on my Gingerbread phone (unrooted, unmodded, all I have is Motorola firmware and a custom launcher, Launcher Pro). Works outstanding, flies has everything I could possibly need and more.
Android's own high marketshare kind of invalidates your categories, though. Different people have different uses for their phones. I've seen plenty of tech savvy people (including myself) with an iphone, and plenty of non tech savvy people with Android phones. It's pretty obvious that there is a lot of room in the market for both OSes, and the generalizations you offer don't really jive with the numbers.
