Understood, but it's late in the game now. More websites are confirming today's announcement is final.

Romeny and Perry. No way Cain gets nominated, and if he does he has zero chance of getting elected to the White House.

A lot. Jon Stewart did a mashup of all the times Christie said he wasn't running and it was fairly long.

He can't help that party people with the money keep pushing him to run and start leaking things to the talking heads to compel him to address it all over again.

Yeah, it's definitely that, and it's also the media looking for more ratings.

It's not a question of IF Herman Cain flames out, it's WHEN and how ugly it will be. Will he go quietly like Bachmann or soak himself in gasoline and light a match like Palin.

I was obviously being a bit snarky when I posted that, but your reply has me thinking... if you replaced "Herman Cain" with any other Repub candidate, the sentence would still be true. I know it is impossible and someone will win, but I don't see how any current candidate wins the nomination. Just when I think the Repub Party cannot show me something I have not seen already, they come through and do just that.

Romney will have a respectable outcome in a general election. Huntsman would too, but he's not going anywhere.

    I know you were kidding.

Romney will take it. His closets have been thoroughly checked and he has the political stamina to last another 12 months campaigning, raising funds, dodging political minefields, not saying anything too stupid, etc. Remember Dole in 1996? The difference is Romney will have a chance to win.

It's theoretically possible Perry could come back, but I think he's too big a buffoon and hasn't been vetted well enough. He needs to take back the lead and have the white hot flames of being the front-runner fan over him for a while to make sure he (or something in his past) won't explode.

One reason I want it down to Romney vs. Perry (if Perry can recover) is so both guys can start being themselves and unload on each other. Let the blood flow.

If Romney gets nominated ( I think he will) does the Bible Belt/Televangelists create a schism in the party and vote elsewhere? If that happens, I don't think Romney will win the Office. Barring, of course, unemployment going up.

No, they'll just find a way to justify it to themselves through some combination of self-delusion, blind ignorance and listening to Fox News. If you can somehow use the Bible to hate on Gays, Birth Control and science while ignoring the parts about submissive wives, incest, slavery and such, voting for a Mormon over a pragmatic man of science is laughably easy.

Very simple: Obama will be the great uniter of the Republican party next year. The GOP could nominate a 10 year dead corpse in August and still lather up and motivate all wings of the party.

Again, I say, look back to 1996.

Thank you professional pollsters. Sorry, but McCain really ****ed up on this one, her long-term prospects for the Party were his only real rationale in the first place. No more competitive female candidates for another twenty years, none.
