He's a fast healer. I'll be jumping for joy if he can return for the Tennessee game.

    From Rotoworld courtesy Houston Chronicle.
    _____

The Houston Chronicle's John McClain reports Andre Johnson will miss three weeks after undergoing a procedure to prevent scar tissue and "speed the recovery" of his hamstring.

Hamstring surgeries typically require a much longer recovery period, but Johnson's procedure seems more like a cutting-edge platelet-rich plasma therapy. He's not having the tendon re-attached to the bone, rather expediting the recovery process. Johnson will miss games against the Raiders, Ravens, and likely the Titans over the next three weeks, aiming for a return against the Jags in Week 8. Jacoby Jones and Kevin Walter will start this week, though Owen Daniels will likely be the No. 1 weapon in the passing game.

I'm a little weary of it, but I hope this is right. I think hes out more than 3 weeks, maybe 4-5.

It could have been worse, and part of being a playoff team is getting the job done in spite of losing a key player for a short stretch.

And Sunday can't get here soon enough!

Gosh, this is seriously depressing. What do you have against us sports Gods?? What do you have against the city of Houston?? Why does an injury always have to strike a key player from the team??? :(:mad::mad:

Sounds a bit like the blood spinning therapy he had on the ankle last season.

Im thinking he will be out between 2-4 weeks.

dont hurry his recovery, maybe he should be out 4 weeks, and come back 100% healthy, ready to dominate.

4 weeks sounds much better than the entire season. It was so depressing watching him in pain during sunday's game.

If no one is saying beating NFC opponents is more important......... why are you saying we needed him against an NFC opponent, not so much the AFC opponent? I get that the Saints are the better team; but they're in the NFC. Records aside, a loss to the Saints isn't nearly as catatrosphic as a loss to the Dolphins. Ergo, he plays in Miami, not New Orleans.

So a procedure to stop scar tissue build up, doesn't that mean they trimmed part of the hammy?

I think 4-6 sounds about right....though I am not a doctor by any stretch of the imagination.

I think 2 weeks is the minimum time he's out. It's Andre Johnson. The guy will play no matter what sometimes. I think realistically it will be 3 to 6 but honestly, this guy always finds a way to surprise you? Supposively the high ankle sprain he played with last year was something many guys wouldn't have even tried. Watch for the end of next week, and expect back for Tennessee.

Rick Smith was on 610 and he said that whatever time frame has been floating around is not the official word. There's no confirmed 3 or 4 week period of down time. My real concern is that back in 07 or 08 when we lost Andre to that knee collision, they said 2-3 weeks and it ended up being 7. Kubiak is from the Shanahan school of secrecy after all.

I'm interested as well, but what I believe was most likely done was an irrigation and drain of the tear site.

When you have tearing, you obviously have swelling, bleeding, clotting, etc in the area. The watery plasma is slowly drained away, but a lot of fibrous "gunk" remains and becomes scar tissue. Think of it as an internal scab on your muscle.

I could see them irrigating, draining, and possibly stitching some of the muscle back together to speed up the healing.

-OH! And! Of course, you'd pump the muscle full of HGH and anabolic steroids!

    Duh!

not sure if this is what's being done, but after talking with a orthopedic surgeon that has extensive sports injury experience, he mentioned that when a tear occurs lower on the tendon then you can go in there and suture the muscle but in that case, you are looking at a much longer period that this mysterious 3 weeks that's been circulating. I have a hard time thinking they are cutting muscle and him not be out longer.

He also mentioned injections of platelets into the injured area. This speeds and improves the recovery. I think this is probably the route they are taking.

I'll be pleasantly surprised if he comes back before the bye week. The injury itself looked like a season ender, so my gut tells me that his return after several weeks is just not realistic.

I think we can beat Oakland at home without AJ, but the game in Baltimore is probably a 4 to 1 longshot. To me, if they pull out a win against the Ravens, then this team will win at least one playoff game this year.

This is what i heard on KPRC.

I dont think they are cutting anything to avoid the scar tissue, but basically cleaning up the wound from the inside and helping enhance healing. Like cleaning a cut, putting some neosporin on it, and then bandaging it up, rather than just leaving it alone.

It would be really awesome if he felt good enough to at least suit up for Tennessee, give them something more to worry about. Even if he only went out there half speed for a few plays, it would mess with them a little.

Eh... I think Tennessee gets exposed this weekend against an angry/frustrated Pittsburgh team and that's going to mess with them even more than AJ being there (or not).

Then Tennessee has its bye week to think about it... then they get us coming off two solid victories without our best player .
