newegg and amazon fkced me on the collectors edition. i'm waiting 48 hours to see if anyone passed on their ce's at gamestop so i can scoop in for the kill.
Yeah, I got it. That's more or less it (also comes in a tin case). Only the game and art booklet are included though. The rest is all digital I think. They give you a code to check it out online (and of course, I think I read it was not working for some people). Also behind the scenes video IIRC.
I got the CE and its not a big deal if you didnt get the CE. The only thing you miss out is the tin box and the Art book. The guide, soundtrack and Behind-the-sciences DVD are all part of a digital download and you can get it from someone else. In fact I think I saw it on rapidshare for download. And quiet frankly, the digital guide is the only thing to go after.
If it's similar to Demon's Souls, then the digital download guide could be similar to whatever will come up on Gamefaqs.com. I remember whoever wrote the walkthrough for Demon's Souls was recruited by the devs to write the guide that came with the deluxe edition.
Didn't get to play much, but loving it so far. Framerate does seem worse than Demon's Souls than I remember though, and doesn't seem like a huge upgrade (if any) in visuals (at least in the areas I'm seeing). Happy I read about the gifts online since apparently the in-game description is wrong (one of the rings only gives a 5% HP boost, not HP regeneration). I was about to get that one, although it did seem a bit too generous I admit.
Great game, if anyone wants to add me on PSN id is Liverpool- it's a lot harder than Demon's Souls so far but like Demon's Souls once you get fights down they become a lot easier.
I skipped on Demon's Souls. How is this game hard? From all the videos I've seen, it's block, run around, slash, run around, block - how's that hard? Also, how good is this series story-wise?
To some degree, it's difficulty is a bit overrated. What's "hard" about Dark/Demon's Souls is that it tends to be very unforgiving. If you miss a block (or if you have no stamina to block), you'll take some major damage (and probably not be able to recover). If you get ambushed, you'll likely die unless you react perfectly (and that might involve running away). I think that might be what makes it so good. The gameplay is simple enough that many gamers don't feel put off, thinking they can't handle it. But the developers have still made it challenging enough to be very rewarding whenever you do succeed. You probably won't be playing either game for the story (making assumptions about Dark Souls, but I'm assuming it will be the same). There is one, and I suppose it leads to an interesting "atmosphere" and all that. But it tends to stay to the background. Whenever you're playing the game, you're thinking about beating the next boss, leveling up, finding items/secrets, etc., not about the overall plot. I guess that is one thing that can be seen as disappointing to me about the series, but they'd very likely screw up the game if they tried to make some epic plot like other AAA games, so I'm happy with how it is.
The ability to explore is AMAZING. I found myself in this rain forest area.....then suddenly Spoiler DAT GIANT HYDRA IN THE WATER
I wish I had more time to play this. I agree that with what little I've played, the exploration seems really nice. On another note, I somehow managed to already use my Master Key. On accident. Ended up rapidly hitting X near a door (think I was trying to get some loot from a dead enemy too), and I guess that ended up using the key. Got some crappy treasure I didn't care for (guess it might be OK, but I'm not interested in it right now). So much for that gift.
That Master Key can actually get you some really nice items early in the game before you're supposed to be able to reach them... including a shield with 85 fire resistance, a sword that does both physical and magic damage, and a ring that greatly increases equip burden. In any case, not a bad item for a starting gift, that's for sure. I sort of wonder if it'll carry through to the next playthrough, though. I've played for two days now, and so far I've managed to ring both of those two bells that the guy at the beginning was talking about. After that the difficulty seems to increase somewhat.
Don't forget the Gold Pine Resin you can get with the Master Key. I didn't. Edit: Reading about it some more, I guess it manages to make an upcoming fight much easier. I assumed it was a temporary effect too (might be), but if it is permanent, maybe not so bad. Still would have preferred saving that key.
OK... I just realized my previous posts were really stupid. Master Key has unlimited uses. I thought it was single use for some reason (think because a lot of the other gifts were single use). Not so mad anymore. I was wondering why I was able to unlock some other door with it...I never actually checked my inventory to see if it was gone. That is a pretty nice gift.
Where do you get a master key? Got a copy of DS for $40 shipped, thx to neweggs blunder. Won't get it in till next week.
You choose a gift when creating a character, master key is one of the choices. If you make a thief though you get it regardless so you can choose a different gift. Overall the game is so fun to play and it's a lot longer than part one, I'm pretty sure at this point of I was pretty much done with the first playthrough with demon's souls but it feels like I still have a ton of things to do on this one. Is no one playing this on PS3?
From what I've heard the other good one to pick seems to be the Pendant... apparently it's an important story item that allows you to join a covenant you wouldn't be able to join without it... or something like that... I'm making good progress. Rung both bells, beat Ceaseless Discharge, and got Rite of Kindling from the Catacombs. About to fight Ornstein in Anor Londo. I started as a Pyromancer, but I've settled into more of a sorcerer build.
Yeah, I was thinking pendant as my 2nd choice. Though I guess you can get it somehow in the game? Thought I read only the Master Key was unobtainable (only available as a gift/Thief). I'm still very early in the game. Barely got my Drake Sword and got past the dragon on the bridge. Again, I wish I had more time to play. Weekend is almost here, so I'll probably be making some substantial progress soon...
