Before the Miami game, I also thought that Foster should sit. However, I'm sure the Texans have a team of medical professionals that provide their opinions on a players health to the coaching staff. I think the doctors gave a thumbs up, Foster gave a thumbs up, and Kubiak, using that information made the decision to play Foster. Also, it turned out we didn't need Foster to beat Miami, but we really didn't know that before the game. Hindsight is 20/20 as they say.

I don't have a problem with the decision Kubiak made. If the fans had known before the Miami game that Foster had been cleared to play and Kubiak made the decision to let him sit, Kubiak would have been criticized for being too cautious. There's almost nothing Kubiak can do without be badmouthed by the fans, I guess that comes with the job.

Nothing was said in regards to the injury during Kubiak's presser?

Kubes basically just said that it's concerning to see him go down like that, but that they need to continue to assess the situation. It could be anywhere from 3-4 days, to a few weeks. He's going to miss some time though, that's for sure. They just don't know how much.

I would think it is hard to know when it is fully healed, it may feel great and then a little twinge, and you shut it down, I think that is what happened in the Miami game, right?

So, maybe at that point they decided to give him 2 more weeks...

A follow up MR would help a lot, but they can be expensive.

In the end, it's usual a dice roll. If he makes it through the game and helps you get a win, it's a genius move. But you run the risk of losing him for even more time. It's only an easy call in hindsight....but hamstrings are notorious for this, and it was just a year ago that Johnson kept going out there and mildly reaggravating his ankle each week and staying in a hampered nagging injury state all season.

It's easy for me to sit behind a keyboard and say this, but I feel it's better to take the extra week and be sure your guy is 100% and isn't in (serious) danger of aggravating the injury. Or dress him and keep him on the bench and see if you can get away without him.

John McClain just tweeted Johnson had a "procedure" done on his hamstring so it will heal faster. Expect him to miss 3 weeks.

That is what I thought might happen that they would look to reattach something through surgery.....

When they said "More opinions" to me that meant someone offered a surgical solution.

Here is a link about Hamstring injuries.

    http://orthoinfo.aaos.org/topic.cfm?topic=a00408

    Surgical Treatment

Surgery is most often performed for tendon avulsion injuries, where the tendon has pulled completely away from the bone. Tears from the pelvis (proximal tendon avulsions) are more common than tears from the shinbone (distal tendon avulsions).

Surgery may also be needed to repair a complete tear within the muscle.

Procedure. To repair a tendon avulsion, your surgeon must pull the hamstring muscle back into place and remove any scar tissue. Then the tendon is reattached to the bone using large stitches or staples.

A complete tear within the muscle is sewn back together using stitches.

Rehabilitation. After surgery, you will need to keep weight off of your leg to protect the repair. In addition to using crutches, you may need a brace that keeps your hamstring in a relaxed position. How long you will need these aids will depend on the type of injury you have.

Your physical therapy program will begin with gentle stretches to improve flexibility and range of motion. Strengthening exercises will gradually be added to your plan.

Rehabilitation for a proximal hamstring reattachment typically takes at least 6 months, due to the severity of the injury. Distal hamstring reattachments require approximately 3 months of rehabilitation before returning to athletic activities. Your doctor will tell you when it is safe to return to sports.

Andre Johnson had a procedure done on his hamstring today, could miss 3 weeks. Procedure was to prevent scar tissue and speed the recovery.

ARGH, was still in the hold out hope for a cramp camp.

3 weeks doesn't sound too bad, but I would have loved to have him available for the Ravens. That game seems so out of reach now. And now the Titans game scares me...

i was expecting 2 weeks at best and 6 at worst over the last day and a half. 3 weeks is not that bad. It will be interesting to hear more of the procedure that's being done...I'll have to get on the horn to my orthopedic surgeon and get his take.

It stinks and isnt ideal but I could understand him coming back after the bye week to ensure his health. 3 weeks is probably best case scenario, and do the texans really need him against the browns?...i hope not.

I doubt he'll be out for only 3 weeks. Wouldn't be surprised if he dosent come back till after the bye. The Texans have to be cautious here and make sure he dosent reaggravate it to the point where it lingers into the final stretch of the season.

I'm just glad it wasnt a season ending injury. Whew

agree. A normal hamstring pull will take about 3 weeks and that's a minor one. Best case scenario he is ready for Jax but you also don't want to rush it there. So then you can assume week 4 against the Browns...not sure i'd risk him for that game

The fact that 3 weeks is even an OPTION is relieving to me. I said on Sunday if it comes back the he'll miss 4-6 weeks, given how he went down, I would take that with a smile. If he can be back for the Jacksonville game, I would be ecstatic. If he comes back after the bye week, I will still be good with that. I'm just so happy it's not season ending.

If the Texans keep winning, hold him out an extra week or 2.

three weeks sounds nice, but we know how the Texans roll. Like in 2007, when they had andre day to day, and he kept missing.

In any case, don't rush him. We need him healthy for the AFC championship game. =)

Come on, fellas, why'd you retreat to your corners before the bell?

I still fondly remember the flame war a couple years back when you glossed each other "DaDarkOne" and "Swollen Dorito".:grin:
