My thoughts exactly; a severe and sudden cramp would better explain the "drop like he was shot" event. I think he would have started limping with a pulled or torn hamstring. Any doctors out there?

The doctors that I know have all told me that WHERE Andre was grabbing after he went down made the injury seem like it was severe. The back of the knee is where the hamstring attaches, along with the PCL, and that rarely, if ever, does an injury occur there without significant damage done to the muscles or ligaments. However, at that point, I never asked if a cramp or sudden shot of pain could cause a similar reaction from AJ. I'm praying to God that he can be back for the Tennessee game. That would be awesome, and only provide further evidence that Andre Johnson is not a regular human being.

    It wasn't a cramp.

Whether it's sore, a strain, or worse - the root of the issue is tearing. There's muscle tearing after a good work out ("good sore") and it heals back stronger. On the other spectrum, the tendon itself can tear with the worst case scenario being a rupture. With Andre grabbing so low, the worry is that the tendon was involved. Tendons heal as slowly as, if not slower than, bones. Muscle heals pretty rapidly.

Without knowing exactly what's torn and to what extent, it's literally impossible to guess at his return. But I'd say the most optimistic scenario is a return against the Titans. So long as the tendon wasn't torn, he should return by or before the bye.

Grade 2 strains take 4-6 weeks to heal.

Foster's preseason pull (not as bad) needed a full 4 weeks, which Kubiak rushed with his week 2 appearance and re aggravation.

Again, hopefully we see AJ back for the Titans, but these things heal on their own schedule.

that's not fair to say Kubes rushed it. Arian had a full week of practice and said he could go. It's not like he made him come back early. There is plenty to fault kubes for...can we not go the "he made him play hurt" route

    It was a stupid decision.

Foster was going to be key in New Orleans.

We didn't need him at Miami.

I don't care what Arian says, you're the coach, you have to be smarter than that.

If it takes 6 weeks for Andre to be ready to go, FML to the max.

I'm putting it on him, which may not be fair, but when dealing with a hamstring - it'll "feel" fine before it really is fine. Which is why guys constantly come back and tweak it immediately. Foster didn't put it in a full week. He came back that Wed with limited practice and was a gametime decision based on how he seemed Saturday. To me, that's too soon. That he didn't make it to halftime is telling in my book. He needed an extra week.

Coaches are under intense pressure to win at all costs, which is why they'll push the envelope to get a guy back and have limited patience with ones that can't get out of the trainer's room. Players are also going to chirp that they're ready before they are (see also: McGrady, T).

I'm not saying Kubiak is a dumbass. He made a call to give the team another weapon and better their chance to win....but it was too soon for Foster. At best, I'll rephrase to say "he didn't err on the side of caution"

The difference in the Foster situation is that Tate was doing a yeoman's job of filling in for Foster. Clearly he is not as good but he is a danged good backup, and would be starting on some teams.

With AJ, we got nobody behind him.....(sigh).

While *fans* would rather beat a really good NO team, beating AFC opponents is far more important that beating NFC opponents. A "feel good" victory doesn't trump a conference victory that might be a factor in a tie-breaker at season's end.

If the guy said he was ready to go (and with a hamstring, that's about the only diagnosis you can trust as there's no "it's healed" test), how can you blame Kubiak for putting his best team on the field?

Maybe I'm just a homer or an optimist but I think we can survive without AJ for a couple of weeks. Not against the Ravens obviously but against weaker competition.

OD is back to his former self. Walter has shown to pick up his game in AJ's absence. Jacoby needs to give us something...just something. Dressen and Casey will see some targets.

Foster needs to step it up in the receiving game. Schaub has to do a better job delivering catch-able balls. Foster was wide-open and couldn't haul in a overthrown ball on the possession that we settled for a field goal.

 Oh, so it's OK to wish your fantasy team does better instead of wishing for Andre's recovery? Your insensitive remarks deserve no respect, sir. I'm not tossing bits around you... I'm pointing out your insensitive post.

On your first point, no one said beating NFC opponents was more important. But we clearly needed him against New Orleans and not so much against Miami.

On your 2nd, I agree, but in restrospect, he should have sat.
