He just needs to be more consistent at it, anyone can see him doing it occassionally in the Red Zone this year, especially the New Orleans game and against Pitt.... DD
Actually, I heard on one of the morning shows, I think 790, that his QB rating is one of the worst when he gets blitz. That said, he was joined by Tom Brady on that list.
didn't they have a similar stat on Drew Brees when he has a 5 man rush . . he sucks which is why we were baffled wade didn't blitz more in the 4th Rocket River
To me pointing out Schaub as a problem is pointless because it's almost impossible to ugprade from him. No one's going to trade a Rodgers or Rivers. The Texans don't suck enough to draft Andrew Luck, and even if they do that's not a definite upgrade. There are other, more tangible ways to improve the team. Like getting a 2nd corner, a great 3-4 DT, 2nd receiver, etc. Those are possible through great drafting or finding undervalued free agents. But the only way to get a better QB is trade your entire draft to #1 for Luck, hope you draft the next Brady in the lower rounds, give a 1st rounder to find the next Favre from some team the way we got Schaub in the first place. I don't really see it myself. Take out the elite QBs, Manning, Brady, Rodgers, Rivers, Brees, who are generally very on the money. Everyone else hits and misses. Big Ben missed wide receivers left and right on Sunday even with time. And no one can say he's not upper echelon QB. Schaub at least generally make the right reads and has good sync with his receivers. He rarely misses receivers because they ran one route and he thought they ran a different route. That in of itself makes a QB a better passer.
There is a certain former longhorn sitting for the Eagles on a 1 year contract. Forget about all the off the field issues, coaching issues, the guy just wins. Just look at his win loss record. I wish I could say the same about Schaub. He always find a way to lose games or can't finish a game out.
He wins? I'd venture to say that his stout running attack and bad ass defense won for him. Im really hoping your post is a bad dream and that you didnt actually type that.
Yes he wins. Check out his record. Young took his team in the playoffs twice. Schaub has been here like 5 years. How many times have he led us to the playoffs? Exactly. Please slap yourself in the face.
Seriously, this debate? The Titans won DESPITE Young, not because of Young. The guy is barely in the league. Maybe we should sign Hank Baskett at receiver because the guy played in a Superbowl!!
Do you people STILL exist out there??? I figured you would have crawled back into your holes after he went to Philadelphia. Don't you have the 2005 Rose Bowl DVR'ed somewhere?? Please just go watch that instead of derailing this thread with the most asinine of topics.....I don't think anybody is in the mood for this discussion anymore. It's over. Move on.
Who made you god? We can talk what the F we want. If you don't like it go scrub your toilet, I can smell it from here.
Well QB rating is a fickle number. Here are some stats: http://www.profootballfocus.com/blog/2011/05/12/beating-the-blitz/ Schaub completed 62% of his passes when blitzed and had a 1.6 TD/INT ratio when blitzed. His ratio is just average but his percentage is impressive. Either way, he doesn't suck under pressure. Overall, Pro Football Focus ranks him 9th in the NFL among QBs when blitzed.
Even without looking at numbers, you generally don't get the feel that Schaub gets flustered against blitzes. I think a lot of this has to do with how familiar he is with his receivers and therefore his ability to check down to a back or TE when there's heat. The Texans don't do much down the field passing anyway, so the ball generally gets out very fast even if Schaub himself doesn't have that quick release. To me all of Schaub's problems stem from his arm strength. He can't zip the ball to his receivers. He can't make all the throws, and the throws he does make aren't all that pretty. If he had a great arm, he really would be an elite QB.
Exactly. We went into prevent mode which we've seen, even before jackson got here, always got us in trouble. Whether it was Mark brunell breaking the completion record or A. Smith throwing for 300 yards in the second half. When you give the qb time, unless they have a name like bucky or rusty, he is going to go off on the defense. I'm not taking credit from this expert analysis, but "Quaterbacks don't like to be pressured."
Hahaha, you have got to be kidding. There is a reason he is on the bench and there is a reason he was ridding the pine behind Kerry Collins. Maybe Vince can come be a back up here in Houston, after he gets off his shift at the VY steakhouse. The guy is trainwreck. He may be better that 5 or 6 starters right now, but in no way is he better Matt. I was fan Vince in college, but c'mon your obviously a blind longhorn homer. Vince was the Eagle who stuck his foot in his mouth and called the Eagles the dream team.
Ya'll are talking like Young is a scrub or something. Saying things like he was a great college player but........ Let me remind you, he was rookie of the year, took his team to the playoffs. Someone just said that it was because of their awesome defense and Chris Johnson. If that was the cast how do to explain two trips to the pro bowl.
I agree. His weaker arm and lack of athleticism means he won't make the plays an Aaron Rodgers makes. But he's got enough juice to make most of them.
You're right. I apologize. You have every right in the world to sound like a buffoon, and I have no business getting in the middle of that. But, I will say that getting to the Pro Bowl these days is about as valuable as the Euro. When you have 7 guys in front of you all back out, I'm sorry, but the accolade loses a little bit of its charm.
