Yeah, apparently my tickets could have been sold for $400 dollars and I'm in section 539. 50 yard line upper deck was chock full of Steelers fans.
My issue is that its predictable and the defense knows its coming. When there are 8 in the box...and you are still running the ball...then youre basically just accepting the fact that you wont gain much yards in exchange for 40 seconds off the clock. Thats not very valuable when you only have a 7 point lead with 12 minutes to play. Im happy with the win fellas...Im not trying to be a debbie downer. But, looking at the past, this is a trend that is prevalent with the Texans under the Kubiak regime. I expect huge things out of this team because we have the talent to beat any team in the league. However, we need to stop shooting ourselves in the foot. I'd rather play balls out and lose, than to wait to see if the other team has what it takes to beat us. Luckily, the Steelers offense couldnt man up...but imagine with their 3 chances, if they came back and won...we would be 2-2 with our two wins coming against two teams that have yet to win a game this season. Thats how close we were to being in that situation.
ridiculous the play wasn't incidnetal, texans player had a couple of steps before he hit holder in the back. holder actually has to get up off ground, start running and then get hit secondly, even more ridiculous is the claim that it happens on almost every play. there is a reason you see it called in kick coverage. because in kick coverage the blockers are behind the tacklers. on a normal play from scrimmage, the the blockers and tacklers are facing each other. stop being a homer
He's not being ridiculous, he makes a very valid point. Stuff that is inconsequential to the play gets let go by refs all the time. This, unfortunately, was not one of those times. It was technically correct, but I could point to a dozen similar instances in yesterday's game where that type of block wasn't called (even though it had a direct impact on the play at hand).
i know what you're saying, it didn't affect the outcome. i'm saying that argument doesn't matter, because you're trying to keep players from getting hurt. therefore it has to be called
It was the right call and a dumb move on Manning's part. He should have run in front of him and blocked him there...or just let him go. DD
Yeah, it was a dumb play by Manning. That plus his deciding to run the opening kickoff out of the end zone and then fumbling it added up to not a good day for him. He did have that devastating hit on Ward that was pretty much a game-saver, though.
Manning hasnt really impressed me at all so far this season in terms of sometimes I dont even realize he's out there... True he's better than last years safety, Eugene "Bad Angle" Wilson....but hopefully he shows us some ball-hawking skills in the next few weeks.....
I think people are spending waaaaaaaaaaay too much time searching for things to complain about. Did the defense looked like it was struggling with a killer instinct yesterday? Looked all the world to me like they smelled blood and pounced. Tremendous performance. How long has it been since our defense won games for us with any consistency? The Texans just stood toe-to-toe with two of the best teams in football. We've been waiting for this for *years*. YEARS. I'm having a blast; I can't imgine anyone not thoroughly enjoying this. First of all, the Colts managed a scant 7 points in the second half to draw within 27. Let's not throw that game in the mix. And how 'bout we give some credit to the opponent? All three have respected, proven defensive coordinators. This isn't all on Gary Kubiak. He's forcing hands, defensively. It's not like these teams are shooting out of the gate on top of what he's doing; it's only after they've been whipped for a half and given a 15-minute break that they've (somewhat) righted the ship. That's not uncommon in the NFL. And Gary is doing it with Foster or Johnson in every one of those second halves, FYI. They've scored 34, 23, 33, 17 (should have been 31). That's not dicking around. He's the 6th-ranked QB in football. He's completing 66% of his passes, has only thrown 3 picks, he has a QB rating of 101.9 (the highest of his career) and his team is 3-1...... What part of his game should he elevate, exactly? Man, from where I sit, this is the most sustained fun I've had watching football since 1993.
Ric, I'm on board with you. I don't see complaining about yesterday or having alarm bells going off in general right now.
i have some complaining about schaub, and i'm usually a big defender of his. that pass he threw to daniels in the ground in particular. he made up for on the next pass, but he almost blew that easy pass and it would have given the steelers the ball back
yeah, it was a bad throw. He admitted it on radio and raid that he just pulled the string on it too much. OD made a heck of a catch
No team is perfect; they all have flaws. The Chargers three wins are against teams with a combined 1 win. The Patriots' defense is atrocious. The Raven's QB is completing less than 50% of his passes. The Bills, like the Pats, give up a ton of points and, well, their QB is Ryan Fitzpatrick. The jets have been bludgeoned these past two weeks. The Steelers have two ugly losses and two ugly wins and a hurt QB and no running game. and the Raiders have Jason Campbell. Tennessee may actually have the most legitimate case right now as being the best team (beyond Houston). They have a huge quality win and are doing it with an ineffective Chris Johnson, who I'm guessing will right himself. They're a legit threat. (Until Hasselback gets injured.)
yes, but schaub has been shaky in crucial situations. i'm not saying they have to win every game, but you can't mess up an easy play like that and its not the first time we've seen him do it this season
I put it in another post; but I think people have, remarkably, set waaaaaay too high a standard for this team. No team is perfect. The Texans have great company in that respect. What they *do* have, finally, is enough on both sides of the ball to persumably overcome these lapses. They had HUGE penalities all day yesterday that would have derailed every other Texan team ever. They kept charging, pushing ahead and (gasp!) winning. It was bordeline unprecedented.
