So we don't know yet how the candidates will be affected. IMO, Cain had no choice but to call Perry out and doing so may damage his standing with some Tea Party fanatics. If so, it's one of those "no-win" situations for him. For Perry, it's just more buffoonery and another example of why he may not be ready for prime time.
the reality is that there are lots and lots of places that were once called n***** this or n***** that. the problem for ricky-boy is that most places changed their name a few decades before he did. i read alot of j frank dobie and its amazing how common it was used as a name back then...mountains, mines, rivers - in his book "coronado's children" there is an entire chapter about the lost n***** mine. all that being said, it does appear that the name stuck after the perry family started going out there. i bet it was something they always pointed out to visitors to get a chuckle too. as for cain, he has some momentum right now and he is capitalizing on it - he is on the attack - its the politically smart thing to do.
I don't think it was a smart thing to do at all. Yes, he hurts Perry doing that, but he also hurts himself with the tea party faithful. Let someone else bring it up.. he will alienate some key voters..... but time will tell.
i understand the logic but i don't think anyone else would bring it up. cain got some national interviews because of his strong showing this week and it was a coincidence that this happened in the same time period. he was asked. he had two options to respond a) say he wants to hear more info or b) say what he did say
i would be interested to learn more about it. i've never heard it, and to be honest i didn't think it was a big deal when the perry story came out because i just couldn't comprehend that it was actually refering to black people. its just a weird to me
Seems you are right: Republicans leader Erick Erickson now rally for Perry, criticise Cain. http://politics.salon.com/2011/10/03/cain_perry_racism/
The world of Republicans is a strange one. Calling out that kind of thing should be seen as common sense. It's so odd that people are anti-antiracism.
I've always said Rick joined the race too early. With so much media today, so often less is more. I think he would have had a better chance announcing his run for the nomination in the last quarter than months ago like he did. I still think he's got as good of chance as many of the other runner, which isn't saying much for any of them.
Keep in mind these kinds of people won't help Perry get the nomination. The GOP moneymen will have final say and if Perry doesn't finesse this with them, he's dead meat. If he does, this demonstrates some measure of staying power. Also, Cain will fall out with the kook wing of the party eventually. At some point during the campaign, race was going to come up. That line had to be crossed. Cain may as well start declining so the two finalists can take the gloves off and start firing at each other. This is just the first pothole from Perry's past. Romney Inc. will find a few more if the press doesn't.
I think this is literally true, since (as I'm reading the stories), Cain was asked about the situation on live television. So, he had the choice of saying "that's insensitive" (not a very radical response) or "that's no big deal" (a weird thing to say.) I guess he could have said "that's a distraction and it's not going to help us fix the country." Replying to a pointed question and using the adjective "insensitive" is different than calling someone out, in my book.
Good news for Rick Perry. The HPV vaccine could prevent future cases of throat cancer in men that engage in the oral delights. Fight a tumor, get your little girls vaccinated. Rick Perry was right. http://www.businessweek.com/news/20...s-linked-throat-cancer-in-men-study-says.html This has to be one of the more interesting large scale trials. I wouldn't want to be a participant.
Believe it or not, in the book of some GOP kooks, Cain stepped over the line and his limited response was uncalled for.
Michael Steele agrees with Herman Cain with regard to ******head Ranch. http://swampland.time.com/2011/10/03/michael-steele-on-perrys-hunting-camp-its-very-troubling/ Now officially both of the black Republicans find the history of the ranch troubling.
http://dailycaller.com/2011/10/03/will-wapos-scoops-help-perry/ Just when we had Rick Perry on the ropes, WaPo has to go and give his candidacy new life by creating a Perry vs. Liberal MSM controversy. GOP primary voters don’t like being told the have “no heart”–but they don’t like the press trying to take a Republican out with a second-order racial-insensitivity scandal either. … If I had to guess which candidate’s camp leaked this story, I might guess Perry’s. Who benefits? ….
