As much as I love my Horns, I fully expect to get crushed next week. We just plain old aren't good enough this season. I just hope we're reasonably competitive. But then again, you can never tell in these rivalry games. Hook'em.
And if UT could beat OU, they would move into top 7.....and be back in the hunt for a NC..... Probably too soon, but it is amazing the difference that good coaching makes with 5 star athletes. This year's team is coached so much better than last.....and Gilbert being out is a huge plus too. DD
Texas couldn't really move the ball consistently against ISU. I don't feel good about OU. We need VY back. He isn't doing anything right now maybe he could come back.
Once they took out Case McCoy to give Ash some more burn the offense bogged down. UT could have moved the ball if it wanted too, but they went vanilla in the 2nd half and protected their playbook and better players. Honestly, I don't know what to expect from the OU game, one would think that OU would win easily, but I have a sneaking suspiscion that UT will be ready and the coaches will have a good game plan. Man...I wonder how many championships Mack would have if he would have gotten rid of Greg Davis earlier? So glad he is gone ! DD
The homer side of me tells me we can beat OU because its a rivalry game and anything can happen. The rational side tells me that we have no chance because the offense hasn't really clicked this year.
They have played the teams on their schedule, and beat them all, you got to build confidence first. Who you have played makes no difference in any particular week, this game coming up is winnable, not probable, but is winnable. DD
OU has a weakness; Landry Jones is not a particularly mobile qb. I think if we are to pressure him with some good blitzes, it will tilt the game into our favor. We have to be able to run the ball dominantly with Brown and Monroe however...
after re-watching the game, this is the exact opposite of what happened. Whenever Case was in they would sneak a safety in the box because they know he has no arm. Ash stretches the field and had a much higher 3rd down conversion rate than McCoy. He is bigger, faster, has a way better arm and is just as if not more accurate than McCoy. They really need to start him.
Agreed. Still, he made some questionable throws over the middle, but got lucky. Eventually, he will make some major mistakes, but that's what freshmen QBs do and I think most Texas fans will trade a few mistakes this year for experience and the promise of next year. The Horns are going to be damn salty in 2012-2013 and this freshman class has ridiculous potential. Regarding OU, the first quarter or so is key. If OU strikes quickly and puts Texas behind by a couple of scores, it will be a long afternoon. If Texas is ahead or even midway through the second Q, it will be a game until the end.
Get the feeling we're gonna shoot the works this week. We've kinda been staying vanilla defensively. We have run quite a few offensive trick plays though. This is the week we finally find out just how good our QB situation is. I have a feeling we're gonna be exposed, but I'm hoping for the best. If our QB's do play well we could stay in this one, maybe even win it. I'm not as sold on Oklahoma as their ranking suggests. I predict a 34-20 OU win We can win this one though, i have certainly felt less confident going into the OU game than i do this year.
Once we were up big and saw the ISU couldn't really move against our D, they went vanilla, as to not show too much for the OU game. Pretty sure we're going to see A LOT of new defensive schemes and offensive play calling this week. The coaches are gonna go all out.
Don't you love the fact that now that Greg Davis is gone, that the fans might actually see them go all out? Bubble screens? LOL...gone. DD
They're actually a large part of Boise State's offense, but they are deployed differently (in a context that actually makes sense, rather than one the defense allows you to have.)
I know it, but the fact that they are set up, and not run every 3rd and 7 is a huge relief. The schemes the team is running this year are a breath of fresh air. Greg Davis was one of those guys who got by on the talent of his players more than the scheme etc. When you put talent and scheme together, great things can happen, that is where you get Urban Meyer, or even Stoopes....guys that can outthink you and out recruit you. Mack has always been able to out recruit you, but now his staff can also out think you. Nice to see for once. DD
