Not anxiously anticipating this game as I was last week against the Saints. Think it's because I saw this team play against the Saints and am not really worried anymore, especially if Arian comes back 100% like he's suppose to. Offense is solid as always. The defense created the turnovers and held the Saints almost all game. If the offense had punched it in the endzone earlier, if the defense didn't get gassed in the fourth, if the special teams didn't suck in the fourth, etc., then the Texans would have won. If Philly is still wanting two second round draft picks for Asante Samuel, then DO IT!! After that, try and get Randy Moss (going to have to win more games to convince him). Team really needs a legit corner opposite Joseph. Also needs a deep threat/red zone target WR and move Walter to the slot (great route runner). Teams needs to go stud WR in the first round next year.
Roof better be open today... otherwise it was a waste of money to have a retractable roof stadium if you can't open it on days like this (dumb 50-80 rule... if its 81, and perfectly clear, it gets closed).
Rodeo doesn't need a "retractable roof" stadium. They needed a dome. Same thing goes for NCAA events. The roof was billed as retractable to allow for outdoor football games, making this stadium more appealing for a potential expansion team or a potential Super Bowl. I'm saying, they could have just put a fixed roof on the thing if they had no intention on opening it ever... and debating so much about doing so on perfect days like today due to the "direct sunlight" issue.
I have. Its fine. The direct sunlight does make it "warmer", but not that much more so. My point is that if they had known that they couldn't keep the roof open for noon games at 81 degree weather, they either would have built the retractable roof style differently, or not built one that can open at all.
Sitting in the sun (which isn't the case for more than half the stadium when the roof is open) can make it pretty toasty, but it's hardly an oven. Just be prepared. Hydrate, glasses/hat, sunscreen, no problem.
Exactly.... its what most fans in cities that don't have a dome have to do for these month's games anyways.
Or built it to where they can actually get grass to grow and not die when the pallets are installed for football season. Preliminary Roof Report from Monday was that it would be closed. EDIT: Now officially closed
Not too concerned about that since even Arizona has had issues with grass, even though they move the entire field out for direct sunlight. Looks like it will be closed (per twitter). They're saying the high is 86 degrees, but my weather reports say its only 80 at kickoff... and gets warmer as the day goes on (but the stadium is mostly in shadows by 3pm). What season was it that we had to have the roof open every game because of the hurricaine? I don't think season ticket sales were affected one bit... I thought it would lead to some easing up on this rule, but I guess not. Its safe to say that they will never have the roof open for a noon game early in the season... ever.
08 was the hurricane, do you live in houston anyway, i think they have to follow the strict 80-50 rule, or something like that edit: iow, i don't think its their decision, they HAVE to follow the rule
Galveston, actually... (guess I should have even more reason to remember). Its an arbitrary rule made up by the organization, not the NFL. Its pretty stringent. Nobody will die of heat stroke in 81 degree sunny/no wind weather. They definitely modify the rule for night and late PM games. They probably would do it as well for cloudy/non-rainy days also. By the time its 86, there won't be any direct sunlight on the seats.
Seversl of you weren't there for the Steelers home opener (6 years ago?) which led to the rule. It was unbearable, and I wasn't even in the sun. They thought they would punish the Steelers, making them wear black...but Pittsburgh stomped us and it was a MISERABLE experience for anyone cooking in rhe stands. I agree the rule is overboard and pansy, but I'll never forget how bad that game was.
What is it with this franchise making rules based on extremes? That was the entire plan that day "sweat them out". It was high 90s, super high humidity, IIRC, brutal. (unlike today, low 80s, low humidity, decent breeze) So they make a rule closing the roof if it goes even a single degree over 80? Overreact much? Reminds me of how they killed tailgating after the Cowboys game last year. A game that happens once every 8 years and you make a rule that applies to every other game because of it? Really?
