Wade doesn't seem to have problem with these 2 guys pointing at him. He is pointing fingers at 2 dudes and laughing. David Stern must have used the wrong finger. Never use the middle one.
"Fundamental rights" have nothing to do with it. Collective bargaining determines everything. The NBA is a very unique situation that affords people the opportunity to make extreme amounts of money. Mentioning slavery in this demeans and cheapens the term itself. If you want to bring "fundamental rights" into it, let's get rid of the draft, any notion of a salary cap and make it a free-for-all.
By allowing teams to detain players after they have already fulfilled their contractual agreements is fundamentally wrong from both a business and ethical point of view. If the player is still under contact, then I can understand and accept a team's right to not let him go. Once a player finishes his contract with the team, the onus is on the team to convince the player to re-up if they haven't already.
Iam very optimistic I am get ready for a season that by the farthest should start a Dec http://espn.go.com/blog/truehoop/post/_/id/32190/udonis-haslem-on-labor-talks
"Detain"? You think using terms like this and completely ignoring what I posted helps your point? Look up collective bargaining in the dictionary. You might also want to Google how much NBA players make vs. the average american salary. Then we can talk about "detaining", "slavery" and "ethics". Why are you ignoring the NBA draft, which is the biggest offer of these?
From most things ive read, desertification, i.e. fighting it out in court, would certainly equal the entire season lost. How is this speeding things along?
I thought desertification is when land in the sahel turns into desert after prolonged drought. On another note, Stern is dropping a load of BS here: "Both sides agreed that the consequences of not making a deal lead us to the prospect of possibly at some point in the not distant future losing regular-season games," Stern said. "And we agreed that once you start to lose them and the players lose paychecks and the owners lose money, then positions on both sides will harden and those are the enormous consequences that I referred to in terms of trying to make a deal." http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/7...rs-owners-return-talks-saturday-tense-moments As soon as games start to get dropped, people's positions will soften because you'll get a lot more people who need the cashflow become vocal and pressure the hard bargainers on their own sides to compromise. People like Battier will tell Hunter to get to a deal.
I agree that under a CBA they can enforce a "franchise tag," I simply do not agree that they should nor is it something fundamentally right to do. Sure they maybe allowed legally, but I am not agreeing with it on an ethical point of view. It is just not right to hold someone against their will when they have paid their dues. The NBA draft has nothing to do with franchise tagging. I am not disagreeing with a CBA, just with the concept of franchise tagging.
What people are missing here regarding the franchise tag is that the NBA is one big company. There are different locations, but they all work for the NBA. So, a franchise tag would only force a player to stay in one location but he would still work for the same company. The right to move to a new location does not exist within one company unless it benefits the entire company. DD

When you bring ethics, fundamental rights, detaining, etc into the discussion, your stance on franchise tagging vs the draft equates to swallowing a cow and straining a gnat.
They get paid insane amount of money for their work. They are free to leave the business if they don't like it. THAT is their fundamental right. Please don't tell me these guys are slaves. You are insulting the real slaves who are still laboring in this world.
He's a necessary evil really, we're talking about one side of rags to millionaires with egos the size of the mississippi and another side of billionaires whose fortunes are mostly generated at the expense of everyone else. The only way to deal with those sort of people is to be the biggest ass hole in the room
