To the people saying it's "supposed to be buggy", um...yeah...no. These are major bugs less than a month before this game is to be released. Out of all of the major releases that I've beta tested, I have never seen one this buggy. Gears3's beta was incredibly smooth and was out 4 or 5 months before the final product. If this is anything like what the actual release will be, there's going to be a lot of pissed off people. I'm not buying it.
As a guy who has been making games for more than 20 years, I can tell you with all honesty, that you have been lucky. There are always major bugs at Beta...ALWAYS. DD
Of course there are, what I'm saying is these are showstopper level bugs. I've beta tested quite a few games, and never seen as many issues in such a short amount of time. When I play these I intentionally try to break them, in this case I didn't even have to. I'm just disappointed with the quality for something so hyped.
It is a Beta, be dissappointed if they are still there at retail launch. Complaining about a Beta is one of the biggest reasons that we developers have in not wanting to put it out to the general public. Because they have unrealistic expectations, as you have demonstrated here. Every Beta is different. This game has systems that most do not have with destructible environments etc....much more going on in this game, many more chances for bugs. Let them work it out... DD
Wait a minute, Seclusion you are the one that hates vehicles in games anyway...lol....you don't like Battlefield as an FPS...so you are going to be more harsh. Come on now, at least give it a fair shake..... This is a big step up in FPS games.... DD
I don't think my expectations are unrealistic at all. If the game isn't playable, how am I going to test it? I wish them all the luck in the world, I just don't see them correcting the issues in the time they have.
Played for a few hours last night. I like it better than BFBC2 already, but it’s still not what I was expecting. I truly hope the graphics see an improvement in the released version. It looks good, but not great and there are a lot of weird and unnatural things happening out there. For example, people appearing to teleport from place to place. On a positive note, I feel much more in control of my soldier than ever before and the time to kill seems a little more realistic. For my best match, I went 25-7 with two bomb plants. Of all the realism I enjoyed in BFBC2, one glaring problem in my opinion was the completely unrealistic amount of ammo it seemed to take to bring one enemy down. I like this much better. I think it is very balanced. I wish they would let us console players get a taste of that other map that people are raving about so I can get a better feel for how the actual game is going to be, but I guess I’ll just have to wait.
Stop it, you hate this game already because of vehicles, we have had this discussion before. You are hardly an unbiased observer here. And how would you know if they can correct the issues, have you ever made a game? Have you any idea what it takes to correct those issues? No? Didn't think so... DD
Believe it or not, I do know a thing about video game development. You're not the only one who has experienced the other side of the industry. As for me being biased, whatever... if I was completely biased against the game I wouldn't have even downloaded it. I call it like I see it. I appreciate your industry experience, even admire it. That doesn't mean you know everything, and from previous posts you've made -- I can tell there's a lot you don't. Especially about what makes a good competitive game. For the record, the beta map I played didn't even have vehicles in it.
Great, where have you worked, what games have you worked on and shipped? Let's see your name in some credits. Fair enough, and I will call you biased as you have proven to be in past conversations about being a "Professional" gamer. LOL - ok, so you disagree with me as to what makes a competitive game, and it somehow negates more than 20 years of making competitive games. Yet, somehow, you, who has never made one, seems to know what is important in making one. I guess it is sort of like everyone on here complaining about basketball....it is easy to do from the outside, when what is really going on is not known to us. I know, they put that map out to draw the fanboys of non vehicle maps in... And I don't believe you know anything about what it would take to fix those bugs.......nothing you have posted or said lends any credibility to you on this, other than being a fan boy. DD
Last time I'm going to bother replying to you. Never claimed to have worked for a video game company, but I do have experience with the code and I've interacted on the development side with...developers! My previous teams have been asked to directly test and influence changes. I've also been privy to more than enough information on what it takes to fix certain issues. I'm also in school for 3D animation, so I have a definite understanding of graphical issues. I don't claim to be an expert on any of it, but I know enough to be dangerous. You claim to be the end-all-be-all-of-knowledge-on-everything-gaming. Here's the reason people take issue with you; you're what we in the PC community would call a "keyboard warrior". I'm sure you're a nice guy in person, but the second you get on these forums you know everything and are a general douche. As for you making competitive games, if you can name me one game -- just one -- that you worked on that was used in a major tournament...I'll never question your knowledge again. For that matter, name me one tournament you've even placed in and what game it was in. That's like you designing basketball shoes and claiming you know everything about basketball. If you don't compete, you don't know. Obviously our definitions differ. I consider a competitive game to be something used in national or international tournaments with scale. Starcraft 1/2, Counter-strike, Halo, hell even League of Legends now. Somehow I doubt you've worked on any of those or anything similar. As for you knowing how to balance a tournament game, I laugh at that. You're the reason companies like Bungie decided to add things like Armor Lock. I bet you think letting players be invulnerable whenever they like is a 'great idea for a competitive game'. Done talking to you, say whatever you like.
Oh, and seclusion, who cares what people on the internet think of you, personal relationships matter, what is said or posted here does not. And I am sorry I called you out for your obvious bias. Competitive games are only those played in tournaments huh.....interesting.....a very narrow elitist view but interesting. You represent a very small, microscopic portion of the buyers on the industry, which is why game makers cater some to hard core, but for the most part are aiming for a bigger space. Getting good at a video game and playing in competition is not something I would be proud of, it is not winning a Nobel prize, or changing the world, it means you spent an inordinate amount of time...basically wasting it.... I am glad you like games, but put your value as an individual in something other that video games, those are unimportant in the grand scheme of things. As for being a Douche....oh well...it is easier to lable and call people names than understand their points. DD
Seriously last one, just needed to point this out. I didn't say you were a douche until you called me a fanboy. Typically I can have a civil discussion with people, just not with you -- I wonder why that is. And you don't have to play a ridiculous amount of a game to be good at it. That's like me pointing out how you sit on your ass posting on the BBS all day, that certainly doesn't make you a good poster now does it? You're really good at this internet thing, enjoy the rest of the thread!
Fanboy is not a diss....it is someone that is a fan of a certain type of game, you are a fanboy of hard core FPS's games. I am a fanboy of vehicle FPS games...... There is no malice in that word. And I can have a civil discussion, but I wanted people to know that you are hardly unbiased here, you come in with a bias towards BF3 already based upon our previous conversations. And I will bet you they use BF3 in competition. Either way, sorry for the pissing match, I am glad you are in 3D animation, that is really cool, the industry needs more passionate people that can also animate etc. Good luck to you ! DD
Back to topic at hand, anyone else have trouble logging in on their XBox last night? The EA servers were unreachable for a good portion of the evening. DD
I thought about downloading the demo last night on the PS3, but since I know I'm going to buy it, I don't want to burn out on the multiplayer before I get the game. Besides, Gears will keep me going until then...... and all this school work.... There's that.
So after about 3 hrs playing the beta I have cancelled my pre-order and getting Rage instead. Just couldn't get into it. Will definitely rent for the single player.
