Bottom line with Matt Schaub is that when he does throw a pick it's almost always huge....ie we're about to score or it's run back for six. Matt's decision making out of his comfort zone is a disaster. That said, he's got a gun and brings a lot to the table. In the pocket he can be something to behold. When our Texans go down, it's usually a combo of many things but Kubiak's incompetence and a big pick by MS (along with the secondary acting like a sieve) often lead the way. We can go a long way with Matt if he can stay healthy, but not with Kubes.
That's the thing...it's not worth a discussion. He's the Qb and he will continue to be so for several years
For what it is worth, he had 5 passes last week where he got 6 seconds to release the ball.... 4 of the 5 where incomplete. His offensive line is not very good, Knox does not catch the ball and Roy Williams is slow.... but still, he is a big part of the problem as well. He routinely only looks to one reciever, often times makes poor passes and decisions. Yes he does have a very strong arm, but it doesn't mean much when you routinely over throw your recievers only make one read. He was in statistical heaven in Denver and screwed it up... it is on him.
Tier 1 Manning Brady Tier 2 Brees Rodgers Tier 3 Rivers Roethlisberger Tier 4 Vick Shaub is in Tier 5. Who else can you get that's better? No one. Simple as that. He needs to play better but he's talented enough to win a Super Bowl.
When did Schaub become a corner cause I didnt see him out there stopping that TD blitzkreig unleashed on us in the 4th. Redzone issues withstanding, we still scored 33 points. That would be good enough most Sundays... If we had the rz figured out we'd prob be closer to 50. Let's hope AF can take them to the promise land. If you go back and look at last years scores.. we scored over 30+ pts in every game but 4. (and some of those were close). Regardless of Schaubs forced late game heroics that end in Romoesque failures.. offense is not our problem.
The problem with Schaub is that he isn't Brady, Manning, Rivers or Brees. The offense is made for him and with the weapons around him, there shouldn't be a need for him to be those guys. If the offensive line can keep him clean, then he'll be fine but if they don't, Schaub's warts start to show up. My biggest issue is that he tends to shrink a bit when the world begins to crumble around him, I wonder once he wins that first BIG road game, if the flood gates will open and those mistakes will stop happening.
My biggest problem with him is his arm strength, but he has great accuracy and his decision making is good for the most part. And despite the arm, his Y/A is very solid. He's not elite, but 2nd tier, and that's good enough for the Texans to be an elite offense with the weapons and o-line we have.
If our redzone woes over the years is in large part Schaub's fault, then I would have a problem with his play. Otherwise, I feel he's fine.
LOL at trading Schaub for Cutler. Schaub is an extremely underrated QB and undeniably clutch when his team needs him.
People who are wanting to trade Schaub are seriously over-reacting. Schaub is one of the few good things we got going for this team.
Few??? We have one of the best RBs, TEs, OLines and best WR along with Pro-Bowl players all over the defense. We should win the division and have a home playoff game...wouldn't say "a few".
Don't listen to him. He thinks the Rockets could win, not 1, but 2 championships with the current roster.
Wait, people really think Scaub was the reason we lost to the Saints? They scored 40 point on us, and we still only lost by a TD. If anything, he's the reason we weren't blown out of the building. He's not elite, but he's darn good. Good enough to make a run in the playoffs. We need to fix the Kareem problem though. He just wont do.
GB needs to fix their secondary then too. Brees threw for only 419 yards, 3 touchdowns and zero picks in Lambeau Field. Kareem Jackson looked noticeably better in the first 2 games. Let the season play out before burying him again.
Wow, you and I seem to have very different opinions on the talent of this team. Schaub actually doesn't have a lot working for him. He has a great running game, but one that splatters in the redzone. He has an all-pro WR, but no depth at the position as you'd want from a west coast offense. He has nice TEs, but none of them are amazing and the best one gets hurt a lot. He has a great offensive-line, but that line is much better at run-blocking than pass protection. All things considered, Schaub to me ranks among the top of Texans in terms of impact. He doesn't have the ability to carry a team, but he is the core of what makes the offense so great over the past few years.
