Honestly they shouldn't need a replay to place blame on Gonzalez instead of Bartman though. It's sad that people would blame a fan reacting to a ball instead of blaming a professional shortstop who failed to do his job. Gonzalez caused way more damage than Bartman did. If you see a ball coming your way 9 times out of 10 you're not just going to sit there since you can't fully tell if a player has a chance at catching it.
more like the single play got into everyones head and was the turning point in the game hence a documentary and us talking about it today. You are right psychology never plays into and these guys are professional robots with no emotions. Have you every heard these expressions: -turning point -tipping point -game changer - momentum swing - crescendo - play of the game - catalyst - stimulant (that creates change) bartmans play was all of those and mentally the biggest reason they lost their composure causing subsequent loss of physical focus. Alou and dusty baker were pretty upset and the whole damn stadium was in shock. yeah that had nothing to do with it either. same way home court advantage doesnt mean anything even though the fans cant make a basket or hit a home run.. statistics show a home court team will win more. geez
It's called a momentum swing for a reason. Just because you lost momentum doesn't mean you can't gain it back. If your team loses all composure after a foul ball then your team is filled with nothing but mental midgets and they wouldn't have won the World Series anyway.
Nobody is arguing that there aren't game changers, or momentum. Your picture of Nick Anderson is more akin to the Alex Gonzalez error. Even more so, it was like Bill Buckner, because he had a chance to win the game, and he blew it, 4 consecutive times. Those are plays where the player choked under the pressure. We are arguing that a fan trying to catch a ball in the stands can't change momentum by itself. If players can't handle that, then they have no chance of winning. It wasn't until the error by Alex Gonzalez that it really seemed the Cubs were doomed.
Oh don't you DARE bring Nick the Brick into this. Anderson was a pro that straight choked, just like the Cubs did. Bartman was some tool in the stands who missed a pop foul.
Reading people still try to blame Bartman.... I have to admit makes me extremely happy he did it. Couldn't have caused pain to a more annoying fanbase. So much miss-placed anger for a century of absolute suckitude and mental midgetry.
Hilarious that Nick Anderson missing 4 straight free throws is equivalent to the Joe Schmoe in the stands aka Bartman interfering with a foul ball. First off, it has never been proven, only conjectured that Alou could have caught the ball. I think we can all say that if Nick Anderson hits just one free throw that the Magic would have won. Also, as mentioned, Anderson is a professional athlete, getting paid millions of dollars to perform in high pressure situations. Steve Bartman is not in that same class - Alex Gonzalez is, but I forgot about the Cubs and their fans being mental midgets and not wanting to place the blame on the actual player - but instead on some poor scapegoat.
But alex gonzalez happened AFTER bartman.. why is that so hard to accept?thats AFTER the tipping point emotionally of them know in their minds ' we are going to lose to f-ing game !' its called a meltdown and in this freaky case the beginning of the meltdown was triggered by the play, alous emotions, bakers emotions, fans emotions and from that point forward the whole stadium tightened like a noose just like nick anderson. it was a moment in sports that changed the game from that point forward. I cant think of many games like that , especially in the playoffs. I can't remember what the guy looked like that vernon maxwell beat up in the stands, and I can't remember what morganna the kissing bandits face looks like but I do remember her jugs. I do remember what bartman looks like, and he has got to be the most famous fan face in the world. His moment, not causing an out changed the tipping point of the game in favor of the other team, and from that point the cubs were emotionally dejected and went on to lose. Moments can define a game ,and the moment of bartman defined the game. I'm not sure why I even try to continue arguing this point since I don't think bartman should have been beat up or hurt etc. But to argue he didn't play into the final result ,and in the end the result which was a cubs loss of that game is to say that you are a bona fide idiot, and I hate to be so blunt. Bartman contributed to the loss and he was a fan.. its one of the few times that has happened in sports and hence here we are talking about a foul ball play eons later. I'm not even a cubs fan, and its been fun arguing with you all, but the stubborness of not accepting bartmans role here, is becoming downright weird to me. You 'bartman is the sh&t' fanboys creep me out a little actually. It's okay it's a bbs, I'm safe.. I'm sure I'll be fine, but I can tell you if bartman was at my house ,I wouldn't trust the guy.. the same way I wouldn't trust you for trusting bartman kinda thing.why don't you stay right over there where I can see you tough guy.
I'm so glad that the Cubs suck so much, that all it takes is a fan who messed up a foul ball to ruin an entire game with errors, bad pitching, and bad managing. If that's what the Cubs fans are accusing Bartman of, then so be it. Y'all suck. If an Astros fan screwed up a Pujols foul out before he smacked that homer off Lidge, I'd be pretty disappointed if Astros fans did what Cubs fans did to Bartman. Hopefully, we'd rightly blame Lidge, like we have all along.
The Arizona diamondbacks blew multiple late game leads In the world series to baseballs most storied franchise and still pulled off the upset. It's only a swing of momentum, in retrospect, because he professional athletes let it be. That, IBTL, is the point. It wasn't Bartman that swung the momentum. It was Alou's meltdown, Gonzales meltdown, Bakers meltdown (and poor management). Nick Andersen is in no way comparable to Bartman. It is in every way comparable to the Cubs performance, though.
when you're the better team, if you're a champ, you MAKE plays. IBTL, i'll give you the Gonzales error as shell-shock but dude...they played again on a different day... i think their balls had REPLICA written on the side while the Marlins' had DESERT EAGLE
Raise your hand if you'd like to beat the punk ass of the guy who came and threw beer on him...the "tough guy" they actually interviewed. What a grade-A jackass.
I am finally catching up with this documentary. Wow. The stink of loser is so toxic at Wrigley Field that fans and players completely lost their mind. I understand the dread of following a perennial disappointment (*cough* Texans *cough*), but the behavior of many of these fans was really disgusting.
