http://www.chron.com/sports/cougars/article/UH-has-reason-to-be-wary-of-UTEP-2192161.php It's a different team, a different year and mostly different circumstances for the Houston Cougars, who open Conference USA play against West division foe UTEP on Thursday. The last time UH traveled to El Paso for a football game was forgettable, even though the memory sticks out vividly in the minds of many. It was 2009. UH entered the game ranked 12th in the nation coming off of wins over Oklahoma State and Texas Tech. The buzz surrounding the program reached a fever pitch, until a 58-41 loss to the Miners at the Sun Bowl deflated some of the air that had filled the UH balloon. "I just remember the crowd screaming 'Overrated,'" senior receiver Tyron Carrier said. Different this time? And while the Miners are the Cougars' conference-opening opponent for the third straight year, things are different than they were back on Oct. 3, 2009. The Cougars (4-0) are not nationally ranked this time, though they are knocking on the door (they sit two spots outside the top 25 in the Associated Press poll and one spot away in the USA Today Coaches Poll). Case Keenum, Bryce Beall, Tyron Carrier, Patrick Edwards, Justin Johnson, David Hunter, Marcus McGraw, Chris Thompson, Jacolby Ashworth and the rest of the veterans who were around in 2009 are now older and more experienced. "You could say it's a similar situation, but I think we're two totally different teams," Keenum said. "I know they're going to come out and play hard. That being said, I do know that a lot of the guys that are going to be going down there this time remember that time. (They) remember the stadium, remember what it felt like. That'll be in the back of our minds but it won't be the most important thing. There are definitely a lot more important things." Every week is a playoff The most important thing being winning the first game of conference and taking a step forward towards UH's goal of winning a C-USA championship for the first time since 2006. That journey begins on Thursday and a win over UTEP (2-2) would put UH in a good position with its next three games coming at home against C-USA opponents in October. "You've got to realize that you have to take every team very seriously, every game like it's the conference championship because in college football, every week is a playoff," Keenum said. "I think that every week in conference is a playoff to get to that championship too."
LMAO. Yo wags, you might wanna write a letter to the chron! "There are no spots outside the top 25!!! WAHHH!!!!!!!!11eleventeen"
um, i think that helps his argument more than yours. the writer didn't say they were ranked 26 or 27, only they were 1 or 2 spots outside from being ranked. now i will go shower for 45 minutes for arguing on behalf of that poster.
Yeah, 2 spots outside of 25. I wonder what that could mean? If only perhaps there were some number that was 2 greater than 25 that we could use to represent that. We can only hope one day science will invent such a thing.
It means they're not ranked. Get a clue. BTW, you still stalking underage girls? Don't let your wife find out.
No derp. It's short-hand for saying "They are two spots currently outside of the top 25". If you want to be super duper hyper specific about it, yeah, there is no "poll ranking" outside of 25. We all know that. But to jump on someone's ass for substituting "27" for "two spots outside of the top 25" is silly. Does it really matter to you which term someone uses? Spot vs. rank? Are you really going to carry the flag for the waterboy here?
Oklahoma sits 1 spot behind LSU. Oops, am I doing it wrong? That's right, they're ranked, not spotted. My bad.
not getting into yet another dumb **** pissing match with you again. but enjoy the 27th spot in the top 25 rankings.
Well, now that we've got wags going full r****d and you posting naked in the shower, this thread is officially unsalvagable. I RANK IT 2 SPOTS OUTSIDE OF MY TOP 25 WORST THREADS OF ALL TIME.
I think the cougars should win but this is one of those games that I dread where anything can happen on the road. The '09 game gave me nightmares.
Coogs will win easy. Michael Hayes will shread UTEP's defense. Case will pass for 400+ yards. See yall at Twin Peaks!
I'm also cautiously optimistic...Coogs should win, this is their year... Coogs: 42 UTEP: 35 There is a watch party at Stadium Cafe in Addison off of Beltline for the Coogs in the area...
