Don't watch much of Stewart but decided to check him out a bit more since some posters on here recommended his show. Props for Stewart for being very respectable and Paul for being a good sport. Nice to see that they have different views on quite a lot of issues but seem to respect each other.
Stewart crediting Paul as being one of the last and few consistent politicians left in Washington. Agree with him or not Ron Paul definitely is one of the few honest politicians. I actually agree with Stewart on his point on Paul that sometimes listening to Ron Paul you say to yourself.. "yea, yea, Ron Paul is dead on and then he says something that makes you pullback".

Ron Paul...no idea where I stand on that guy.

I love a lot of what he has to say, but if you honestly asked me where he stood on a myriad of important issues I wouldn't have the faintest clue.

Stewart is always respectable to all of his guests. And one of the few that can engage someone with opposing views without being condescending or trite.

The problem with a pure free market system is that greed always over runs sanity.

The industrial revolution was a great example - no rules, and people suffered because of it.

You must not be listening hard enough. He's the one politican that is completely clear on where he stands on issues.
The question is whether his Libertarian ideals/principles work in real life.

Actually, in the interview it was mentioned that the laws of the time actually helped big business collude and avoid liability for property damage, fraud, etc.

I enjoyed the interviews. Jon Stewart, unlike anybody else, really gave him a fair shake. This was one of the better discussions I've seen on his show.

Sounds like a lot of good ideas and sense wrapped up in a bunch of hoping for the best and counting on people.

Which is why regulation is necessary and Ron's misguided economic policies and willingness to dismantle government are his undoing.

Paul's honest. I'll give him that much.

He's just honest in the same way that say, Rorschach is honest.

Greed is problem in any system whether it is free market, communism, fascism, crony capitalism.

People's standard of living grew the most during the industrial revolution. Of course some people suffered during that time due to back luck or being overall losers but these types of people would be suffering much more in any other time period.

economically he can be a bit extreme and a I don't think the free market adds up in terms of integrity all the time of checks and balances without a proper 3rd party, but that said I do appreciate most of his views and most of all, I think he and maybe one of the last few truly honest politicians out there. So that is something I really respect and find refreshing

I can't watch the interview where I am at but Stewart's analysis, as you have relayed them, is what I think of Ron Paul.

You should watch the Meet the Press interview of Ron Paul from 2008. Russert is not that nice to Ron Paul in that he is consistent with Russert's style but it is very illuminating regarding Paul's positions being looked at critically.

I saw the interview last night on my typical one day delay watching the Daily Show on DVR.

Ron Paul is delusional. He says the market place will produce better (stronger?) regulation than government. ANY regulation by the free market is reactionary instead of pro-active. Bad actors may be punished in the market but it will always be after people have died, after people are sick after the long term effects are known.

Corporations may be people but they have no soul. The very idea of a corporation is to limit the liability of the owners. Is the marketplace punishing non-US companies that violate American product laws now? Child labor laws? pollution law? intellectual property laws? products from counties with human rights abuses? etc.. Hell no, we love them because they are cheap.

Representative Government's regulation is not strangling business; it keep business from strangling us.

not the greatest paul interview, but worth watching - stewart seems to genuinely like him. and it was funny when he said "he is the only republican candidate who is willing to come on".

paul has said in the past that as president his focus would be in reigning in military spending/foreign interventionism/ect - once we do this than we can more easily address the domestic issues. i dont agree w/ everything paul says, but this is what i see as our county's single biggest problem and paul is the only one i see actually talking about it. that is a key reason why i support him.

when republicans talk about cutting spending it is on domestic programs that benefit the poor - paul is the only one talking about cutting foreign policy programs that benefit the rich.

but in interviews he tends to get caught up in these philosophical arguments about the nature of our government rather than the practical. the same complaint was made about thomas jefferson so he isnt in bad company there, but i wish he would focus more on what he would do wrt foreign policy - i think that is where he has the most appeal, especially among independents.

paul should get a boost from SNL viewers though. that was freaking hilarious - "I WOULD LET THE PUPPIES BURN! ITS NONE OF MY BUSINESS!" who would not want to see will forte doing that every week?
