It has nothing to do with what they're putting in their bodies. Sheeple don't want to be pushed out of their comfort zone and get defensive about it. It's painful to change, and this is a lazy, indulgent society. Stop drinking alcohol, soft drinks and energy drinks. Stop smoking anything. Stop tearing up the earth for an inefficient energy source. Stop doing anything that isn't in harmony with nature. Get a boob job. All the same principal.
Has anyone ever been here? Only one I've heard of is in dallas. http://www.heartattackgrill.com/ It's this kind of thing that makes America what it is today. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KTKysI59HAw&feature=youtube_gdata_player
Right now I'm young and have a good metabolism, but, I know once I get a little older, diet becomes very important. Good movie, it's like An Inconvenient Truth, but for obesity.
But seriously, I want to know what incredibly fat people eat on a day to day basis. I know everyone typically eats breakfast, lunch, and dinner - but what the hell do these 300lb men and 200lb women seriously eat throughout the day? I really want to know. This is a mystery to me.
Well, my basal metabolic rate at 60+ pounds heavier was around 1700. Consistently eating more than 1700 calories a day, combined with a sedentary lifestyle, leads to weight gain. Not only that, but I got into smoking pot, which contributes to both lethargy and increased appetite. Going out to eat is terrible when trying to get in shape...although restaurants have made a noble effort lately to go with more reasonable portion sizes and calorie counts.
If you are eating only meat, you will not be 400 lbs. The real issue is carbs, genetically modified foods and refined starches and high carb food. People can argue "save bambi" or discuss running many miles a day (not natural by the way), but the fact is, it is the modified foods that usually will get you.
Wrong... That is like me saying that fruits and vegetables cause cancer based on pesticides or genetically modified produce.
Agreed. I think the argument could be made that lots of fruits and veggies plus ~6 oz. lean meats a day is considered a very healthy diet. There are a lot of vegetarians and vegans out there who subsist on junk that's no healthier than regular junk. Refined sugars and starches are by far the biggest obesity culprit. balance is the key to everything. I do believe there is a link between high protein consumption and a host of western chronic illnesses, though. People flat out do not need as much protein as often espoused. as far as long distance running (4 miles LD?) not being natural - really? neither is repetitive weight lifting or using gym equipment. to somehow insinuate that running isn't good for you is laughable.
What's the difference between someone trying to convert your eating habits against your will and someone trying to convert your religious beliefs against your will? Not much difference, if you ask me.
I disagree in that I think there's a HUGE difference between pushing nutrition and religion, but I understand your point. live and let live. sorry if I offended anyone.
Ha, not any more. That was a long time ago. Great way to lose a few pounds in the short term, but obviously a horrible idea for a lifestyle. I actually did weight watchers last year. I cheated and did it for free using different phone apps. I went from about 240 to 200 pounds and I've managed to keep it off for a good year now. Still hovering around the 200 range, which is as slim as I've been since high school...
I am all for reducing the amount of meat that I eat, but I just have a hard time coming up with recipes that taste good without it. Anyone have some good ones that you can pass along?
nothing really tastes good, if you are conditioned to enjoy salty, oily, fatty foods, then that's what tastes good it takes quite some time to change, but it'll be a worthwhile endeavor... baby steps
I don't have any in particular, as I don't cook, but there are tons of cookbooks and magazines devoted to this concept, all with - like cookbooks/magazines that include meats - a vast collection of bad, ok, good and great recipes. http://www.vegetariantimes.com/ ^ is probably the most popular of the vegetarian magazines, and there's tons of recipes. you just moved to Austin, right? have you tried Casa De Luz yet? It's all vegetarian.... kind of different eating environment, but the food is really tasty, and you feel full, but not overly full or bloated, when done. The desserts are not good though, fyi. Mother's is also all (most?) vegetarian, but you don't exactly feel healthy when done there, in my experience.
I forgot to mention that the fireman at the end of the trailer is from Austin. Essentially the firehouse was supporting one of the guys who had a 300+ cholesterol reading with his diet. They all felt so good that they permanently went vegan.
When it comes down strictly to weight loss eating meat has nothing to do with it. I went gluten free about 6 months ago and have lost about 65lbs with little to no exercise. I am 6'1 and went from about 265 to a very fit 200. And weight loss was one of the smaller benefits of going gluten free. No more fried foods, bread, pasta and those are just the obvious things. Everyone would be much healthier adopting this diet rather than a meat free diet. If you want people to lose weight get people to go gluten free. We would all be much healthier inside and out.
Running isn't natural??? That's the funniest thing I have read on here in quite a while. Running is the most natural thing in the world. I read a statistic the other day that there are now currently more obese people in the world than there are starving people. Also, this is the first generation that will have a life expectancy that is shorter than the generation before them. Processed sugars and carbs are the biggest culprit, but too much animal protein plays a big part too -- especially with all the hormones and junk that is pumped into consumption animals these days.
